I have a 2wd 2000 Cherokee Classic, I am moving up to Washington and was worried how it would preform. Clearly, I underestimated how well a stock Cherokee does, in any terrain. I swear this car gets better and better every day I own it.
You’re in an old school Cherokee. It’s like driving a quad on public streets. Get a winch if you’re interested in making money along the way. Bring a long strap to pull also.
I've taken my Stock XJ through about 8-10 inches of powder snow on top of dense wet snow. And it performed pretty well, only time I had to switch it to 4wd was when I started to get to the top of a hill but it drove extremely well.
The trick to those headlights in snow is to spray the crap out of them with Rain-x. Just make sure you use a clean towel and don’t scratch the plastic.
My stock 1995 jeep XJ could go through 20 inches of snow in 4 wheel drive. The only problem you have with them is stopping on icy roads, they are made to go through snow. They do better with good snow tires, than only all season tires. But jeep Cherokee XJ's have no problems with snow.
I was never a Jeep guy or even an SUV guy… then I acquired a 2003 Cherokee and it really blew me away. Other than my first car, this has been hands down the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Seems like the only thing that will kill the 4.0 inline six is a 50 cal bullet. Absolutely murders snowstorms in Buffalo, including this last “generational blizzard” this past week, while being BONE STOCK. Everyone else was stuck, so I was ripping it around town helping who I could. And the last non-rust related part I fixed on her? A power steering hose… for 70 bucks… 5 YEARS AGO. Good lord, they should have just continued making the Cherokee as they had from the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s like the Beetle kept being made. Once they changed it up and went soccer mom in 2005, the model went downhill.
Do you mean 2003 grand Cherokee? The Cherokee XJ was discontinued after 2001. And I definitely agree these things are definitely tanks if you maintain them. Thanks for watching!
@@KCars I mean the XJ, they should've just continued with them. My 2003 is a WJ I think? Same engine and basically the same frame, but new body and interior. I can't wait to go looking out of state (I'm in the rust belt) for a nice XJ... though I know I'm gonna be paying a hefty price.
Same man crazy story I had my truck stolen and needed a car asap a buddy of mine had it on the market for 4K with 203k miles nice lift on 30s got it for 2.5k I was devastated the first 2 weeks then it grew in on me 2 yrs in and I’ve took it camping snow off-roading and I’ve fallen in love with them it now has 221k going strong 💪💪
Great video guys. These cars a like a Swiss Army knife. Would love to see you in the deep snow with those Extreme MT2 tyres. We bought an XJ from California and shipped it to Europe to use as a daily driver. Can't wait to drive to the Austrian Alps next winter.
Thanks! You’re right about that, these things are tanks. Check this video out for a snow drive after I got the lift, wheels, and tires: ua-cam.com/video/Vql4o8yUt5E/v-deo.html
My only request for you guys is to clean the undercarriage on that Cherokee. If they are salting the roads where you live, then the frame on that Jeep is going to rust very quickly. Keep it clean! XJ's are finally starting to fade away, we have to keep them nice!
If you use composite headlights (non-LED headlights) they will heat up and melt the snow/ice. Perhaps consider that option when driving in the snow. Then change back to the LED lights on all other days.
I have a 2000 XJ Jeep six and a half inch lift on 33s. Does good in the snow in two-wheel drive. But when you put it in 4-wheel high it pulls to the right... do not know what is up with it.
Nice wholesome XJ action 😁👍🏾 I have a 98 which is my DD and 01 original 1 previous owner my black Betty she will probably never see snow, want to keep her solid as she is now. Underside looks factory still.
So do y’all suggest 4hi for snow/ice? Tipsss driving in the snow with an xj? Supposed to get a snow storm in a few days and it’s been two years since I drove in it with my xj lol.
@@KCars yes I understand great job by the way just trust me on this one airing down will save you but yes traction on any xj or wj like mine thats a cake walk
@@KCars yeah. People get lulled into a false sense of security in 4x4. They think they can then bomb down the road in bad conditions… but like here in my stretch… they hit a lil ice and boom they’re in the river! But for the most part you’re going to get there!
Lol my stock jeep will burn the tires off in simple rain.. not sure why you think the horsepower has anything to do with burning out anyway.. torque and gearing will make that difference.

I can't get enough of seeing the Cherokee XJ in action. It's a true classic that continues to shine offroad!
