3:34 I think the concavity is a manufacturing thing. Due to the air pocket, when the foam cools, it shrinks or warps that way. I am seeing that in other shoes like the Altra Escalante 2.5 and Brooks Hyperion Tempo. But for those I think its worse, because it is uneven warpage where the shoe doesnt lay flat on a flat surface and its different between the left shoe to the right shoe. On the Tempo, if i remember correctly it is the right shoe where the front left part of the shoe curls up a lot more. And it was confirmed that it is like that on other pairs as well where it is consistently the right shoe and same spot on the shoe. It is warpage and basically a manufacturing defect. They really need to address that as it looks like it can affect the way you land.
hmmm. that sounds plausible, although I've not noticed that in my Escalante 2.5 or Hyperion Tempo. I've seen that a lot of shoes are designed not to lay flat on a surface, such as Boson 9 or Evoride, but i think those are intentional
@@kofuzi You should check your tempos, i believe i could tell even visually from one of your videos on them. Push the heels of the shoes against a wall so that they are equal distance from you, then look at the font of the shoes from eye level. For the escalantes i had the grey ones. The left and right were warped differently. Its not as bad as the tempos but visually noticeable if you look for it.
Totally agree with you on these feeling far better with a quicker pace. They’re way more comfortable all around but seemingly a bit clunky at slower speeds (like the 37). Once you pick up the pace, they’re far smoother and work better. Interesting as I’ve always had the Peg for nearly every run but it seems like it’s getting a bit more specific now. Great initial take!
having a pair of these myself I can say the following: - the shoe feels better when you're going faster - Don't know why but the bottom of my feet hurts by 3 km every time (must be bad warming up but in my other shoes never happen, althought this is my first shoe with more foam) - it gets a little bit hot
I do notice that when I switch from higher drop > 8mm to < 8mm drop that it takes my feet a bit to adjust. Not sure if that might be a potential source of your discomfort, but once I started reviewing more shoes I noticed this a lot. I do my best to give myself a break and run more in shoes that work for my natural running style which happens to be the Peg
the day prior i wore the Mach 4. i usually switch drops pretty frequently, but it certainly could be an issue. i'll make sure to run in a higher drop shoe the day prior for next time
I had that same forefoot issue with the Pegasus 36 trail. Every pair I tried on felt like there was a lump in the shoe. I just couldn’t risk it. Got a trail 2 in the post now though. Looking forward to hitting some hills.
I’ve had my peg37 for about 400miles, and the airbag in one foot got noticeably deflated, which I think led to my forefoot injury this winter. I liked the shoe, hated the mesh upper, but I just don’t think airbags will do it for me anymore.
As an owner of the previous Pegasus 35, 36 and most recently the 37’s, which I really loved but found excessive outsole wear I was so excited to get my 38’s and try them out. Unfortunately the extra thick material in the tongue of the new model is a problem for me, making them less roomy in the upper part of my foot and less comfortable while running. I really hope that it’ll break-in a bit over the next few runs and loosen up, otherwise I’ll be getting another pair of 37’s instead.
I wouldn't be surprised if the air pod has burst and remains compressed but unlike the Tempo Next% or Alphafly you cannot see it as it is concealed. I think this could be why we have some mixed reviews on Nike shoes with air pods in them. When the air pods are working fine they are a very good shoe. Great review. Thanks Kofuzi. 👍
Quite interesting that you had the same forefoot issues with the epic react at similar miles..other than the heat and lack of forefoot cushioning IMO the peggy 35 is one of the most comfortable shoes i've ever worn and I still use them(stocked up on them) as an everyday shoe
I came from various Saucony's to the Peg35 and then 36. Both great shoes. 37 I had to go up another half size! (11.5 to 12!) But it was "ok" nothing special. Felt heavy and bulky. The Peg 38 I've only done a 6mile, a 7mile and a 11mile so far. And I'm not sold on it yet. Not had the forefoot issue Kofuzi has, but on the longer run, my right foot 2nd toe is rubbing a bit, getting a bruise under the nail. I put that down to the Laces being too far out to the sides so lockdown isn't perfect. There's no heel slipping like the 37 though. Agree with Kofuzi that it feels hotter too! The upper is thicker everywhere and I get slight ankle bone rubbing as well. Suspect I'll be changing brands when these are used up.
I found the 37 really interesting. The midsole was slightly firm dispute being react foam that we see in the infinity react. I absolutely love my Pegasus 36’s found them great for tempo runs and faster runs as well. The 37 was unstable to me or at least for most people as well. The upper at least on the 38 seems just over built. The ride was firm and unstable and not necessary enjoyable from a ride experiences. In regards of that foot pain. If you notice in the 35 shield and the 38 by moving that decoupling to the left more it less supportive and allows for more pronation. In the 36-37 the zoom x foam flexed from the middle with the flex groove and the react foam could be to stiff and with that foot pronating it’s kinda slapping if that make sense. I would recommend an insole as well to possible slow that down. Maybe a medium curex or something? Hope it works out for you. I’ve been loving the content recently. I just got my Reebok’s forever energy 3 and let me tell you I’m in love
I just bought this shoes it’s a good shoe coming from bone track shoes. You can really tell how amazing this shoe is on sprints. Good shoe. Just ran 5 miles hope it holds up
I had to return them twice. First time I ordered 10.5 as usual and they fit but when compared to my older Pegasus models the shoes were about 1 inch longer side by side. They def didn't have the arch that the older Pegasus have. I walked in them for a while and my right foot cramped up. I got the size 10 and it also fit but was a bit snug. They didn't cramp my foot but pushed my toes in. The size 10 was still a bit longer compared to my older Pegasus side by side.
I had a similar problem with my peg 37's as you are having with the 38's. The left air bag felt uncomfortable under foot. It settled down for me and became my favourite shoe of last year. As the peg's started to wear out I bought the Novablasts. I wish I hadn't. The Peg 37's are much better to run in. For me the Novablast are just too soft and weirdly bouncy. They actually cause me some lower back issues. My area is hilly and that could be the issue. Running up and down hills in squishy, bouncy foam just isn't fun for me. I am probably going to get the 38's or maybe just get another pair of 37's if I can find them.
Agreed! I used to love running in the 36s down, but I feel that the air pocket Nike added in does not work for my feet:(. Still optimistic that maybe this version is better than the 37s!
I agree with you Mike, it’s a slight improvement from last year, but my custom’s didn’t have that “wow factor” other than the fact that I could get the higher arch and wide options to with, along with my color option. My verdict is still out on mine as well. I returned my 37s after I just didn’t see the cost effectiveness for the lack of benefits, this year is better, for sure. But after one run for me, it’s still on the chopping block. 🤷🏾♂️
@@kofuzi likewise... it just doesn’t seem like a complete shoe in today’s market of “almost” overly saturated daily trainers. I’d like to have the Invincibles with the Peg38 upper and outsole. I wonder why Nike hasn’t opened that model up for the custom treatment?
Funny you mention that concavity, when i was going through metatarsal issues, my podiatrist mentioned concavity of my toes but the other way of where the shoes are. IIRC, talking about its natural to have it doing a upside down U shape and not a downward one
I had the same with the Peg 35. The forefoot felt flat as though the zoom pocket had been popped compared to the left foot. Very strange that you experience this 3 years later on another model.
Mine have some additional spring than the 37 custom I had last year. Maybe just maybe Mike there is something odd about the way the custom ones are made?
Spot on review mike. I didn't experience any of the foot soreness but the shoe seems to lose a bit of its luster past 6 miles or so. Seems like a good all around shoe but questionable for long runs.
I don't think they needed all that extra padding, or completely new upper...just a little width in the forefoot, and a little length on the tongue would be quite enough 😅 at least for me, because other than that, I loved the 37, it worked for me amazingly...I got novablast now, didnt get the 38, because of the weight, and that the midsole looked like it didnt change, and I needed something a bit softer...so I'm kinda surprised you said it felt softer 😅 now, I'm wearing the 37 as my casual shoe, and after 630km on them, when they started feeling dead, the midsole is very soft and comfy to walk in, even though it's half size too small for me 😂 The forefoot thing might be caused by lacing being a bit too tight - at least that's what I get when I lace up too tight...Also might be the shoe's issue, I felt sharp pain in the same spot in the 37 a few times, and same as you, it went away as I was running faster
8:40 I'm definitely experiencing something similar between the arch/ ball of foot region (a burning sensation) at about 4-5 miles as well. I'm suspecting some kind of slip, but maybe the Air Zoom pocket has something to do with this.
Man I love my 37’s. The 40’s I have now feel so slow and bulky in comparison. 37’s feel fast and bouncy. A lot of ppl seem to roast the 37 though to my surprise
Stopped using Pegs because of air bag issues, years ago. Sometimes they're not seated correctly, sometimes it feels like one or the other is deflated or overinflated.
Interesting. Just checked my 'waiting to be used' pair of standard 36s. Flat with no concavity. But perhaps it was added to counter the way the 35 & 36 would convex and become more unstable as the mileage racked up. I found they would become unstable/wobbly as I got into the 300/400+ mile territory. Main reason why I retired my previous pairs.
Thank you for this review! Will you consider reviewing the Puma Velocity Nitro at some stage? Some say best daily trainer so far this year, better than the pegasus. Horses for courses but value your solid reviews so would be very interested in your opinion. Thanks a bunch!
I started with a Pegasus 35 and I'm still having it around 450km. I didn't have any problems with it at all initially but later as I switched to Hoka line, I kept having problem with my 35 with similar pain in the run, as if I'm feeling fascia pain. And I don't usually starting feeling it until 5km (3mile). I don't have any conclusions but I blame to the Pegasus-specfic problem or the high drop.
Hmm...not going to lie, I’m a little worried about this shoe from what you’re describing. I’m enjoying the Pegasus 37 so I was wondering if there would be a significant difference
I have a pain under my right foot with the Pegasus line in general. Had to get rid of my 36, 37 and the Turbo for the same reason. Interestingly, I felt the same pain in my first run with the NB Rebel v2. I can’t figure out the pattern.
Yeah, I am afraid of that…but I have like 15 pairs of other shoes (partly your fault 😊) that I don’t have that issue at all with. So I don’t know…maybe the others just cover up for my bad form.
Inconclusive? Cmon you are the reviewer, we don't want content revealing your doubts. Your words "I don't know" "I'm not really sure" is not helping us getting information. We want answers. Ginger Runner has perfected the craft. Like or dislike the shoe is more simpler to convey. Goodluck on coming videos. It had to be said.
Yes i agree it definitely causes pain in the forefoot even for easy runs for a couple of kilometres. Experienced it only around the big toe area, maybe the cushioning is not good in that area.
Thank you for this review. You made also a great review about the pegasus turbo shield, and therefore I wanted to ask you, if you could do a comparison between these two models, since I have the Pegasus Turbo Shield and want to buy the 38. Thanks again
So on your Clifton vid I mentioned that my 36's were feeling tough on my feet and it is the exact same situation as here, just on my right foot I got a lot of pressure pain on the ball. I had associated it more with my endorphin speeds as they run a bit big for me and I thought that was causing me pain because I hit the plate wrong, but it seems to be a mix more of the two than one or the other
Wow I thought it was just me, but I too have this sore sensation in the (left) forefoot. The left foot definitely feels differently to the right. BUT... it became less with different socks and after more runs. Still think it's weird.
i think that waffle tread option is aimed more for track, i have the normal tread on extra wide pair, after coming from peg36/altras/topos these 38 are fire!
Pegasus 35 turbo are still my go to. They haven’t made another Pegasus that can beat it IMO. Which they went back. Haven’t bought a peg since the turbo 2
Excellent video and review! The problem that you stated in the video with your right foot someone else reported that same issue in their left foot. They wondered if the discomfort was due to a past injury or something, which makes sense. What I do not get is if this shoe is basically the same shoe as the 37's in the sole why is this coming up if it did not happen in the 37's? Do you recommend this shoe over the 37's? Do you experience that same discomfort in other shoes you run in? I have some 37's and would like to get the 38's but I do not know if it is worth it yet. I would like to get an all black pair and I was thinking about trying to find a black pair of 37's at a cheaper price if available and if the 38's are not better. Thanks!
would you do a battle between Asics Noosa Tri 13 and smoething else? or maybe Pegasus 37/38s? I have the noosas and the 37s and cant tell how they are better/worse and although I like the noosas more, I would love to see how they battle against higher end runners! Loving your videos!
Nope, Nike did not convince me with the Peg37 or 38. 🤷🏽♂️ Not a fan of the fit, the midsole feel and the weight. To me, the worst Pegasus so far. ☹️ I had the 33, 34, 35, 36 and liked them a lot. I really hope the 39 is going to be more interesting and competely overhauled again.
i had higher expectations when they switched the cushlon for React, but the combo of react and zoom air doesn't seem to be working out. i love the peg trail and the terra kiger 6. perhaps they need to go allreact for 39.
Maybe it's the tread...#justsaying Great video. Nice design. The Turbo2, for me, wasn't so good for slower paces....Quite uncomfortable due to the mid-shoe area being so flexible.
all 3 pairs I have had the air pocket broke somehow running on trails . And only after 250km ... Life span of these should be much better but the Zoom air pocket is a letdown BIGTIME . i’m a peg 36fan still
interesting, my bf is a Nike tester and he's currently testing what we believe will be the 39s and he found he disliked liked the shoe initially but after putting 20-30s miles on it he's found that the shoe has molded to his foot and he absolutely loves it now, so I'm wondering if it's a matter of putting in a few miles before the show conforms?
I have notice the same issue with other pegasus versions, my right foot hurts at the ball of the foot like if the sole was defective it felt like the sole had some sort of defect like you mentioned it is concave. The issue goes away with time as you use the shoes.
For someone who is training for his first marathon, and training with Nike React Infinity and Pegasus Turbo II, which shoe would you recommend for the actual marathon? In addition, would would you recommend the vapor fly next% for a first marathon?
I ran many half marathons and multiple full marathons in the peg 35 turbo and always had a great race.the peg 37s in my opinion at garbage, always start having pain in feet and legs after about 8 miles.I've switched to the vapor fly next percent and this is a comfortable and very fast shoe. Sharp corners in the vapor fly can be tricky, a little unstable but guarantee you will cut time off your runs.
Im a newbie runner here. I also experienced that right foot issue on my pegasus 37 after 5km. Not sure also what is happening but its making my right foot numb. 😢
Saw this in person the other day, and the upper seems so much thicker and bulkier than past iterations, especially when compared with the 36. Hmm... not really sure I like it.
What's the best versatile daily trainer if you could only have one shoe to do it all? Nike Pegasus 38, Saucony Ride 14, Asics Nimbus Lite 2, Reebok Floatride Energy 3, Hoka Mach 4, something else?
I took my Peg 38s out for their third run today and found they were a bit slick on wet roads but fine on wet pavement. Just wondering if you had the same experience.
I felt that sensation as well in the middle of my foot with this shoe but after running more with the shoe I guess my foot adjusted to it or maybe it was me but overall it’s been a tuff journey with this shoe but overall it’s good for me
pegasus or rather nike shoes are more suitable for those with normal or narrow feet. wide feet like mine hurt a lot in the middle when i run in those nike shoes.
I want to like these but they just give me foot fatigue. It runs from the bottom of my feet all the way up my calves. I felt the same with the turbos too. Maybe I’m just way too used to using carbon fiber plated shoes. It’s just weird because my old Pegasus 2017-18 never gave me feet fatigue.
I am thinking of getting some Pegasus but can anyone talk how they feel for daily gym activity. I wanting do some legs/light squat, running, splash of HIIT, and generally wear in gym.
Kofuzi my guy you just Rock!! Arguably one of the best shoe tubers out there.. keep up the great work dude!! Kofuzi do you have any news about the highly anticipated adidas boston 10??
From doing a basic research, I am hesitating between the Pegasus 38 (well presented by Kofuzi here ☺️ thank you!) and the Hoka Mach 4 for my next training shoes. Does anyone have opinions on this? 😀
Maybe you SHOULD get another pair of 38's. Maybe 3. Hard to make a shoe exactly the same. Perhaps on that slab of rubber one area was more dense. Who knows. To base an impression on one sample...
That colourway you’ve created there Mike looks super dope! 😎 👍🏻
That is conclusively the most epic, dramatic intro. 😲

Mine have some additional spring than the 37 custom I had last year. Maybe just maybe Mike there is something odd about the way the custom ones are made?
I've found that too - that the ride in the custom Peg's seem a little flatter than the regular versions.
@@harveydean7952 Yes that’s the perfect way to describe it. The 38 standard has been superb so far for me. Hope they work out for Mike. 👍🏼
i'm debating whether to pick up a standard pair
@@kofuzi Loving my pair Mike, really good daily stomper. 👍🏼
Spot on review mike. I didn't experience any of the foot soreness but the shoe seems to lose a bit of its luster past 6 miles or so. Seems like a good all around shoe but questionable for long runs.
it almost like it's trying to go the route of the Kinvara
I don't think they needed all that extra padding, or completely new upper...just a little width in the forefoot, and a little length on the tongue would be quite enough 😅 at least for me, because other than that, I loved the 37, it worked for me amazingly...I got novablast now, didnt get the 38, because of the weight, and that the midsole looked like it didnt change, and I needed something a bit softer...so I'm kinda surprised you said it felt softer 😅 now, I'm wearing the 37 as my casual shoe, and after 630km on them, when they started feeling dead, the midsole is very soft and comfy to walk in, even though it's half size too small for me 😂
The forefoot thing might be caused by lacing being a bit too tight - at least that's what I get when I lace up too tight...Also might be the shoe's issue, I felt sharp pain in the same spot in the 37 a few times, and same as you, it went away as I was running faster
8:40 I'm definitely experiencing something similar between the arch/ ball of foot region (a burning sensation) at about 4-5 miles as well. I'm suspecting some kind of slip, but maybe the Air Zoom pocket has something to do with this.
I had arch problems running in this shoe at first, so I returned it. Similar feeling to what I had on the 35's at the end of their life.
I'm having the same issue. I might give up on the 38.
Man I love my 37’s. The 40’s I have now feel so slow and bulky in comparison. 37’s feel fast and bouncy. A lot of ppl seem to roast the 37 though to my surprise
The concave shape at the bottom maybe improves lateral stability or makes it harder to roll to the both side for pronated or supinated feet.
Stopped using Pegs because of air bag issues, years ago. Sometimes they're not seated correctly, sometimes it feels like one or the other is deflated or overinflated.
Exactly ... forefoot pain.. returned
hmmm, i am both reassured and disappointed that others are experiencing similar
I'm really happy with the 37's I can just imagine what these feel like 🤔
Quality video, as usual!
B and W in the house ... you are glorifying the peg 38
I don't have any conclusions but I blame to the Pegasus-specfic problem or the high drop.
perhaps it is the switching of the shoes?
Hmm...not going to lie, I’m a little worried about this shoe from what you’re describing. I’m enjoying the Pegasus 37 so I was wondering if there would be a significant difference
i don't recall experiencing it with the 37, so it has me concerned too
I have a pain under my right foot with the Pegasus line in general. Had to get rid of my 36, 37 and the Turbo for the same reason. Interestingly, I felt the same pain in my first run with the NB Rebel v2. I can’t figure out the pattern.
i would think that if you're feeling it in all four of those shoes, it's probably not the shoes
It had to be said.
first runs are often inconclusive
I had a problem with my Peg 37. My airbags weren’t the same in both feet. I returned them.
i think that waffle tread option is aimed more for track, i have the normal tread on extra wide pair, after coming from peg36/altras/topos these 38 are fire!
Thanks!
I have noticed with most Nikes (running and my basketball shoes) that the left zoom feels thicker/bouncier vs the right size 🤷🏻♂️
I wonder if arch height has anything to do with it
would you do a battle between Asics Noosa Tri 13 and smoething else? or maybe Pegasus 37/38s? I have the noosas and the 37s and cant tell how they are better/worse and although I like the noosas more, I would love to see how they battle against higher end runners! Loving your videos!
Nice Colourway 🙂
Yeah they’re a cool color.
thanks Steve!
Nope, Nike did not convince me with the Peg37 or 38. 🤷🏽♂️
Not a fan of the fit, the midsole feel and the weight.
To me, the worst Pegasus so far. ☹️
I had the 33, 34, 35, 36 and liked them a lot.
Maybe it's the tread...#justsaying
Great video.
Nice design.
The Turbo2, for me, wasn't so good for slower paces....Quite uncomfortable due to the mid-shoe area being so flexible.
It’s a possibility
all 3 pairs I have had the air pocket broke somehow running on trails . And only after 250km ... Life span of these should be much better but the Zoom air pocket is a letdown BIGTIME . i’m a peg 36fan still
Just ordered mine!
I am literally going to the store tomorrow to try them out! Kofuzi, whadaheck??!!
interesting, my bf is a Nike tester and he's currently testing what we believe will be the 39s and he found he disliked liked the shoe initially but after putting 20-30s miles on it he's found that the shoe has molded to his foot and he absolutely loves it now, so I'm wondering if it's a matter of putting in a few miles before the show conforms?
I have notice the same issue with other pegasus versions, my right foot hurts at the ball of the foot like if the sole was defective it felt like the sole had some sort of defect like you mentioned it is concave. The issue goes away with time as you use the shoes.
its because you mostly likely have wide feet which causes the shoes to force your feet together.
I miss the 35 and 36, they were great 👌
overall, the upper reminds me a lot of the 35
@@19JSC92 Still think the 36 has the best upper in recent years
What's the best versatile daily trainer if you could only have one shoe to do it all? Nike Pegasus 38, Saucony Ride 14, Asics Nimbus Lite 2, Reebok Floatride Energy 3, Hoka Mach 4, something else?
Pegasus 38 vs Vomero 16? Your opinion? The difference here in terms of price is like 13$
The heel hook on the 37 was worst ive ever worn for my foot shape and I could not walk let alone run. Im curious if it changed at all.
I just bought the 39 and I can really feel a pain from the zoom unit in my right foot. Really uncomfortable
I thought the 39 was better than the 38, but the pegasus line has been in trouble since it went to React foam as the midsole carrier
I like 37 in optic yellow color but 37 I'd discontinued and I can't find US 11.5 size yet, should I gry it in 11 if my size of 11.5 for, my P35?
Think I preferred the 37? The upper on the 38 feels hot and heavy. Only had one rub in 38 so time will tell.
Along with shoes how much tip you got to propagate it
I took my Peg 38s out for their third run today and found they were a bit slick on wet roads but fine on wet pavement. Just wondering if you had the same experience.
100F here.. No place for a Peg 38 in South GA!
Great Video, would you choose it ahead of the Ghost 13 or Waverider 24 ?
yes
Epic intro
I felt that sensation as well in the middle of my foot with this shoe but after running more with the shoe I guess my foot adjusted to it or maybe it was me but overall it’s been a tuff journey with this shoe but overall it’s good for me
pegasus or rather nike shoes are more suitable for those with normal or narrow feet. wide feet like mine hurt a lot in the middle when i run in those nike shoes.
The pegasus 37 made my forefoot hurt. The zoom pocket was bruising my foot. I sent them back
the vomero was wider
Are these the vomero 14? Lol. Can they make the Pegasus the same way they made the 36. I absolutely love the Pegasus 36!
Thanks for the review! Have you had a chance to retest them since this video? Also hope your foot issue was short lived.
Yes, search for Kofuzi Pegasus Second Run
I want to like these but they just give me foot fatigue. It runs from the bottom of my feet all the way up my calves. I felt the same with the turbos too. Maybe I’m just way too used to using carbon fiber plated shoes. It’s just weird because my old Pegasus 2017-18 never gave me feet fatigue.
Kofuzi is Confuzi!
Hey what's the colour of lining/quarter is it iron grey or smoke grey?
I am thinking of getting some Pegasus but can anyone talk how they feel for daily gym activity. I wanting do some legs/light squat, running, splash of HIIT, and generally wear in gym.
Kofuzi my guy you just Rock!!
Arguably one of the best shoe tubers out there.. keep up the great work dude!!
Kofuzi do you have any news about the highly anticipated adidas boston 10??
Ooh. I wish I did.
