For me it’s probably Animated Beast Wars S3 (all of them are good but something about that version of it sticks out to me) G1 S2 probably But there are other good ones also.
I actually got this guy earlier this year, and mine hold’s together really well. Nothing is really loose or falls off, unlike the starscream version I got after enjoying the mold so much (granted the starscream I got was particularly bad. the fingers were glued on the wrong hands, and stuff was broken, all of which wasn’t advertised on eBay at all)
My animated Bumblebee was my first transformer, gifted by my dad after we watched Revenge Of The Fallen in theaters. It would constantly break so much that I would avoid any toy that didn't come from the movieverse assuming they were poor quality. *To this day my collection is entirely exclusively Bayverse, minus the animated Bumblebee in shambles being crushed by SS Blackout lmao*
I have an animated bumblebee, the thing got lost in a box for years and tossed around before being unearthed about 5 years ago. Nothing's broken- shoulders are loose though
This was my first ever Decepticon and for like a third of my life my ONLY Decepticon! I didn’t know what the seekers was so I always saw him as Starscream bc I just thought Jet Decepticon = Starscream I rlly hope for a good version in Legacy as Animated Starscream design is my favorite Starscream ever along with Bay Starscream and Armada Starscream
The first and only Transformer I bought for years was Blast Off was because I saw him in a shop and he reminded me of Starscream from Transformers Prime at the time. I somehow remembered Starscream but nothing else from the show which I had previously watched years before. The last four or so years I've been properly into Transformers though. But I thought Blast Off was close enough to Starscream because he turned into a jet and wasn't very bulky and was a decepticon. I still really like that figure because of how simple yet effective the transformation was. Most figures these days are quite complicated and take a while yet this Blast Off was so quick but looked great in both modes. I never got the other Combaticons and because we are getting new figures in this Prime line I probably won't ever get the CW versions.
I had this mold brand new well over a decade ago. The Hasbro Starscream ver iirc. Most of those loose joints and parts issues were already there so I don't think that's just the age of the plastic though that probably didn't help either. The thigh bends and arms had the most problems for me. Also those wing bits at the back, I liked to partsform them off and flip them flush on his back. Keeps them more secure imo.
I remember the day I got Skywarp. It was at a mall and I simply could not contain myself while my mother made a stop at some shoe store. I unboxed him and immediately lost one of his tail fins and lord only knows where it disappeared to when it fell. I still wasn't very content with the figure, but it was Skywarp so I loved him regardless.
This is my absolute favorite Transformers animated action figure of all time I love skywarp he's my favorite because of the coloration and Thundercracker too.
Great figure/ mould. Unreal to animated with, was my MOST WANTED FIGURE as a kid growing up and I still love it to bits! Unlucky you got a crappy copy 😯

Yea the seeker mould isn’t the best but the activator version is amazing. As someone who has bought starscream, sunstorm and skywarp, this mould has massive degradation, my skywarp has a lot of problems mainly fingers falling off and sunstorm has a little bit of that but starscream is really nice, I find that his tolerances are a lot better so if you want a good representation of this mould I’d suggest him
This video is very informative. Ordered myself a damaged Animated Starscream for making custom figures, and I'll be using this video as a reference for making replacement parts. After watching this review, I don't feel bad in the slightest about my plans to make said figure unrecognizable while customizing it.
Can confirm, my sealed takara version sunstorm I recently got had all the problems you mentioned in the video, asymmetric toe, loose joint, and that piece of flap that likes to come off.
When I went to get my Animated Skywarp at Toys R Us back in the day, One of them had one of it's fingers loose in the package, so I went for the other one where upon opening it, it's arm came off ^^; But fortunately I could peg it back in. Wasn't bad, but I could tell the QC on him was lower compared to the Starscream release. Rather surprised with how bad your one is out of the box.
I actually have this figure, I bought it sealed too. And all of the problems you mentioned are the exact same on my copy. Even down to the loose thighs and the fact that they come off easily
I’ve been expanding my Animated collection and picked him and Starscream up still new in box. I’ve always been curious about opening them and playing with them but now…I think I’ll just leave them sealed
Fun fact: thundercracker was supposed to have a toy but before it could be released worldwide animated was cancelled, even animated was cancelled some thundercracker toys managed to reach some store shelves

Another reason we need reissues for animated! A lot of these toys have not withstood the test of time. Hope they choose to do starscream In legacy Bc he NEEDS a new figure

i remember my skywarp had a multitude of problems as well. i ended up drilling a hole through the finger piece and just putting a pin in there to stop them from falling out.
Back in December I came across the Sunstorm version at a consignment store in a nearby town. His head and some fingers were missing, and maybe some panels for the jet mode, it was awesome to see that particular figure in person, but of course I didn't buy him.
I got both Skywarp and Sunstorm brand new at release and i had issues with both of them out the box. This mold was easily one of the most brittle I’ve ever owned. Like you said, visually fantastic but the mold has much to be desired
Another annoying thing about this mold is knowing that Thundercracker made it to the factory sample stage but was never produced. Peaugh has a review of a stolen factory copy of Animated Thundercracker and I'm so mad I didn't play the stolen toys from Ebay game in those days.
Glad I stuck with the Activators version back in the day. Everyone was singing this mould's praises when it came out, but I didn't like the way the wings sat in robot mode. Looks like it had more problems than that and it was just another case of people treating whatever they just spent money on as the best thing ever. Tale as old as time. The Activator was cool, though. Basic flip-changer transformation, but for a figure as small and cheap as that one was that's all you need.
i had the starscream version of the mold, I bought it new and the truth is that I don't have any problem, except for the automorph which is really screwed up
Actually I actually had one of these starscreen Clones sunstorm when I was a kid and it came with a little ratchet's toy. Fingers cross for either Legacy, or if Studio Series would tackle Animated (there is an interview about moving both Animated and Prime to Studio Series for better accurate toys, it's not confirmed yet). Also, yes I still own the Animated Starscream mold, and he is meant to be my mascot of all Transformers Toys. I do recommend the Activators figure more, since it's better handled (I used to own the Thundercracker, but I sadly lost him). There's only 4 from the show that got that toyline (Skywarp and Ramjet are Takara exclusives), and Dirge is a random addition
If the joints and QC had been sturdier, Animated would've been an all-time line. So many little issues that accumulate. Some of the later ones still hold up great though, like Rodimus. Oh, and I remember seeing multiple Skywarps on store shelves with fingers off and rattling around in the boxes. I think Skywarp had the worst QC of all the Seekers in Animated. Starscream would hold up ok; every one after would fall down in a light breeze.
I bought this thing brand new in 2009 and I can confirm it was a fragile mess back then too. It’s not deteriorating as much as it had mold degradation after starscream. Never had him so no idea if that version is any better
When it comes to Jet Transformers I really wish Hasbro would take some inspiration from the franchise / company they got Jetfire from. Macross / Robotech which is the original source of the Jetfire mold specializes in Jet Transformers that have zero kibble in both Jet and robot mode simply because they designed the plane first and then find a way to turn it into a robot. Macross has some of the most detailed stunning Jet Transformers with zero kibble and it would be pretty easy to translate one of those Bots into a more animated cartoonish Style
It so much very was almost a good figure, but, has all these weird things that make it just bad. And it's so weird because better joint tolerance, a few extra swivels on the legs and arms, slightly better connections on some of the extra bits.
Ironically this toy disserves to hate itself for existing. Must have been more forgiving of the mold back in the day or been a completist, but currently have the Starscream, and Skywarp on display. Aesthetically they look fantastic in the animated lineup, and other than that I won't touch them except for light dusting which is already a chore in itself as both releases have super loose upper leg swivels, and the hands fall off at the slightest touch. Also, I was laughing during this video at the fails, I know I shouldn't but I couldn't help myself
I know about all of the problems this figure has, but I think I am biased with liking this figure just because it was one of my favorite figures when I was a kid. To the point where he's missing a LOT of parts but he's still there
ThatToyGuy, is it possible for you to upload the Patreon exclusive vids on YT maybe a few weeks or a month after Patreon? I'm just asking cuz I, and probably others don't do Patreon.
If I do that defeats the whole purpose of them being Patreon exclusive videos. They are little 3-5 minute videos. The Patreon videos will never take away toys from the main channel, anything video worthy will always get a main channel video. Patreon is more for like small things I won't ever make full videos on or BTS stuff
Also this is unrelated, but which mold do you think would work for a Legacy Animated Seeker mold, Metalhawk/Cyclonus or Armada Starscream? I think Cyclonus could potentiality work
I've got the Hasbro Starscream version and the only problems with it are 1 thigh dropping off and the same fin/buttflap piece. Everything else is nice and solid. Might be a mold degradation thing, might be bad luck with your toy.
The “gorilla arms” thing is an unfortunate consequence of the “Animated” style. Give them a strong upper body, and thinner legs. “Prime” style, too, does it with some figures, and of those I have, they also fall over. Thew aficionados, does it count as a “beat down” if it’s not a knockoff, and falls apart on it’s own?!? Haha. I do love the design/colors, though. Best of the seeker colors… Thanks!

Also this is unrelated, but which mold do you think would work for a Legacy Animated Seeker mold, Metalhawk/Cyclonus or Armada Starscream? I think Cyclonus could potentiality work
This jet more is a modified and fictional variant of the SU-47 Berkut
tbh as bad as this mold is, the Takara release of Skywarp is beautiful paint-wise
Got mine when it came out and mines still solid, stands straight and doesn’t fall apart :/ the feet do lock and become flat-footed.
I've got the Hasbro Starscream version and the only problems with it are 1 thigh dropping off and the same fin/buttflap piece. Everything else is nice and solid.
Might be a mold degradation thing, might be bad luck with your toy.
used to have this mold, it... yeah
hope they do animated seekers in legacy
I finally decided to start collecting Skywarps so this is not a good sign when I get around to animated😂
They were designed on purpose to fall apart instead of breaking.
