- As I was mulching around pool, I noticed a squirrel on the fence, I started recording while my daughter went inside to check internet to see what to do with sick squirrel, before she came out, it died

littleteethkeith Not true at all. Our dog was poisoned and killed via a slow acting, hemophiliac type of poison. We took him to the vet when he showed symptoms DAYS after ingestion. Someone had attempted to break in a week beforehand TWICE. Our Malinois did exactly what he was trained to do.
The vet said that there are only TWO kinds of poisons that can be identified. One being blue decon, the other is a very fast acting poison. There are HUNDREDS available. The one that killed our boy caused him to slowly bleed out internally over the course of a few days. By the time it's noticed, its too late. The lungs fill with blood, and they suffocate. That type is used as a "long term" solution.
It was the worst thing to happen in our neighborhood in about 15 years. The neighborhood is 20 years old.

Squirrels have infested my house, they keep everyone up all night, and they chew through everything, and they could possibly burn down my house with where they are located if they chew the right stuff, and they keep coming back.
And so yeah, I use poison, among other traps, and there isn't anything wrong with that.

We are the invaders on THEIR territory, not the other way around. Humane ways of killing are out there, and work well. Making them suffer long, drawn out deaths like this is something psychopaths do.
I hate poisons because they can indirectly poison other animals like cats, dogs, birds of prey, and anything else that'll eat a dead animal. If you have a squirrel problem it's best to buy squirrel traps that will either a) immediately kill them without introducing a toxin to the body that can then be ingested by an unintentional target, or b) keep them alive until they can be rehomed (ie: a humane trap). Additionally, those two options are not nearly as cruel as forcing an animal to suffer through the pain of being poisoned. (Side tip: if you have a problem with squirrels eating bird feed, you can add hot pepper juice to the feed because the capsicum won't bother the birds but it will keep the squirrels from eating more than a mouthful or two.)

I found a dying squirrel once. I was scared to touch it so I put three pairs of pants on my legs and some welding gloves. I went to pick it up and it didn't even fight back. I rubbed it and held it until it stops breathing. It is the same gasping and had the same bleeding. Come to find out it was a mama squirrel, and a couple days later we heard the baby's chirping up in a tree. My dad and I climbed the tree and got the babies it was two boys and two girls. One of the girls we still have, because we found her a couple days sooner and the man told us she would die from separation anxiety if we let him take her too. Her name is Lil' Bit and we've had her for about 8 years now.

I don't like poison for rodent control for these very reasons, a lot of suffering and possibility of hurting other wild life or even pets from the deceased rodent. Quick kill traps are more humane or live catch and release to a remote area.

When you watch something like this, do you listen to and watch the background? Like listen to how peaceful it is around the squirrel. The squirrel is literally in a fight to stay alive but is straying closer to its inevitable demise. Everything around it is normal and playing out as intended. Imagine being in that situation, everything surrounding you is normal, but you are lying on the ground entering a state of euphoria as you conclude the throes of death. It's really surreal when you think deeply about it. You're gone but the rest continues.

Looks like it was a brutal death. Can't be too sorry, we had a family of 3 living in our attic, they chewed a hole through the roof that went nowhere but 30 feet down. So this is nice. :)

The CO2 ones work pretty well and the squirrel kinda flops away so you can catch basically as many as the canister allows (Shawn Woods reviewed one on his channel). PLUS they don't carry the threat of poisoning someone's pet on accident.

The small jerks and opening of the mouth are a common thing that is noticed after death, Especially in small rodents, And other smaller animals like rabbits. For instance i have had a hamster that had died, but continued with small movement after deathm hope this helped!

i'd love to make a psa about rabies. please always be careful when you see wildlife behaving strangely or an animal that's obviously sick. it's wonderful to have compassion for animals, but whatever's wrong with them, it's always a good idea to assume it might do you harm as well.

People, when in doubt of what to do with a sick animal-give it water. This never hurts and always helps, it can sometimes save an animals life or at least help it feel a bit better. Every animal drinks water and its hard for animals to get clean water, so giving them some good clean water could save their life.
