Great tips, Airin!
Thank you Denis! I spent the weekend trout fishing with my kiddos. I need to get caught up with everyone else's work!
A bad day’s fishing still beats a good day’s work!
👍🏻👍🏻
These tutorials are so good. They are long enough and packed with useful information for anyone
wanting to become a knifemaker.
Feel free to ask questions along the way!
The best instructional videos out there. Thank you for posting.

I love these long-form tutorials. It feels like I'm learning it in real time!
Great job, dude ✌🏻
Thanks Pete! Sometimes I make old mistakes new ones but I keep moving in the right direction
@@Aleeknives
That’s how we learn, buddy.
Anyone who says they never made mistakes is either a liar, or has never made any effort.
Cheers!
Great learning video! Very much appreciate your effort to help the knife maker!
Thank you!
Thanks for the help it was awesome I was having a definite problem with my guards figuring out how to do with an easy way cuz I just started this s*** anyways I appreciate the help and it was a big help

I need this!! Thank you!
I hope it helps!
Thank you for sharing!!!
You are welcome! Cheers
thanks for this, not made anything with a guard yet as still learning and still doing older designs that don't have a guard but when I do I will be doing much of this, by hand of course though lol, no room for much in the way of power tools in my shed and still want to keep things traditional, but as ever brilliant clear instructions that will be very useful to me and many others
Fantastic!
Thanks Aaron! Want to see it concluded👍👍👍
That video is already available also
Great timing. I’m looking forward to watching this tonight. I’m working on my first hidden tang and at the guard fit up. It’s close, but not quite there yet.
It is an exciting place to be!
How you go?
Very nice
Thank you Dmitry!
Lots of good stuff in here. Its kinda weird, seems every time I'm about to do something, you put out a video on it. Doing a k-bar for a buddy right now.
How the stars align!
I tried leaving some meat at the front face of my tang slot and its a great idea it worked great. Thanks for sharing your tips man, I watch all your stuff even though I have been doing this part time for a while now. You helped me up my game on my last few blades so thanks again and keep posting insightful videos!!
That is awesome! Thanks for the feedback!
Would love to see the finished knife a well
Interesting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to intrigue you!
Awesome video man. Ima have to drop back and catch the previous videos
I'm not seeing episodes 1 - 3
How to make a knife from ground zero
@@Aleeknives thanx bro. I'll try again
Sure thing!
Thank you for this video and the tips. I did not find the sequel to this video. Where can i find it?
Damn, that's quite a production
I only have 2 hints for making guards-
Pack a lunch, you're going to be gone a while
Buy twice the amount of material you need for guards, there are no happy accidents
🤣😂so very true!
Teach us how exactly to use a milking machine. On guards and anything else you’d like to share.
I can do that! I will add it to the video list. Thanks David! Cheers
I’ve used the pinning method method before.
Works like a champ!
I was hopeful that you would be using NO MACHINERY (drilling press) to do the guard without expensive machinery, ie drills and files,a dremel tool only. Not everyone makes lots of guards etc. Thanks for the information I can use but try and imagine someone that's wanting to do a few as a test to see if it's viable and easy enough. 🏴🙏😃👌🏻🏴
I normally use a small ball peen hammer to texture the front. The key is to make sure the ball is polished so it gives a nice clean finish
Great tip! Thank you
Do you ever use silver solder rather than epoxy to seal the guard? It is something my uncle taught me, that he learn when working in sheffield england as a cutler. When i asked why he said to help absorb shocks which can cause a tang to fracture and seal from blood seeping into the joint causing contamination ? Thank you for your video's, take care, God bless.
I have. I don't silver solder carbon blades because the solder stands out against the steel as the steel starts to take on a petina.
Why don't you cast them in brass or even bronze?
So call me slow but I've watched your first tip with the milling machine and looking at your cutout on the aluminum compared to what you are saying 3 times now and still not sure what it is your showing
Damn, 🔨 You're a lean mean peen machine!!
The only thing that you could have added to this video would be the song:
"Smells like Peen Spirit" by Nirvana...but then again, that would have thrown up a copyright flag, lol. But seriously, thanks Aaron!
Too bad you can't make any $ teaching kids anymore. I'm betting Metal Shop isn't even offered in most High Schools.
In my opinion, if it were, You would have been an awesome Schoolteacher & even more of an asset to your Community.
Thanks for another lesson, Go Easy!
Which one of the 3 methods do you use?
The mill method
Love it
File!😉
still making ancient designs but that theme will continue so will be file and drill I guess, if there is a hard way I have to find it lol
I don’t have a milling machine . I have only Iron Workers tools and forge etc, however I scribe a line down my guard metal, clamp it in a vise , then clamp 1/2 inch steel blocks (4 of them) with a piece of blade steel that is thickness of knife between each block on either side . I wedge out the blank blade steel pieces , then drill and file between the 1/2 inch steel blocks , this keeps my cutting square and exact .I probably could harden blocks of thick spring steel after I drill and tap each side as if they were oversized plunge line guards
Well, I lost an hour to realize that it was a total failure
No, definitely no. You must punch a little hole before drilling. And you must use a clamp to fix material. It’s too dangerous without clamp while drilling.
The peice of stock was long enough to be stopped be the upright if it was pulled away from my hand but yes it should be suggested to clamp your work down. Center punching however is a personal choice. I generally choose a drill smaller than my overall dimension allowing a margin for error. Your points are 100% valid and well noted sir! Cheers
