- A fairly uneventful evening session spent at Hereford where we see plenty of services from West Midlands Railway and Transport For Wales.
This wasn't the original station, the first station was built by the Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford Railways. It was called the Hereford Barton.
This station was located on the West of the city but would eventually become far to small without the means of expansion when other lines started heading towards Hereford.
Eventually the decision was made to make a new station that would have the capability to be increased in size to deal with capacity.
The station would be a joint standard gauge and broad gauge station, this is because the GWR at the time was running on broad gauge lines before they standardised to accommodate the rest of the network around the country.
The companies sponsoring this work were the Shrewsbury & Hereford Railway and the Great Western sponsored Hereford, Ross and Gloucester Railway. A third company would eventually make it's way to towards Hereford and that was the Hereford, Hay and Brecon Railway.
The station would see plenty of freight traffic passing through the station to accommodate all the works taking place around the area which was bringing in steady cash into the area.
Eventually this work would dry up and freight would take a drastic drop to the point where nothing would pass through the station.
The two central lines at Hereford are for the freight that passes through, albeit very little of it.
My next station will be my annual end of year film at Clapham Junction.
Another interesting video. Wishing you all a happy Christmas and happy New Year

Awesome video buddy And merry Christmas to you from Alan in Lowestoft 😊
Nice railway video, have a good Christmas.
lol just 197s, 196s and a 67/Mark 4 set. I think the most you can get here now is 197s, 196s and/or 172s (depending on the extent of substitution of 196s by 172s), 67/Mark 4 sets and 800s when GWR operate (and as you said, very occasional freight).
Cool video. Have a good Christmas. 😀
