Please explain what are the real benefit of ServiceNow- CMDB for those clients that dont have ITOM Visibiliy nor ServiceMapping, the most they have is a simple 3rd party HAM SAM horizontal tool.

These videos have been a life saver. I am working on a larger recon project to reconcile data in CMDB and Sail Point and these videos have been giving me the foundation to get started.

    Thanks Jeff,
    This Video is great.
I'd like to see how we might tie together CMDB and Business Service.
    Got any info on that?
Also, before tech teams make changes, it would be great to interrogate the CMDB for upstream / downstream impact.
(Making the CMDB an 'enabler of change'...)
Could we see how you use the CMDB with a Change Request in ServiceNow please?
    Thanks again!

I am studying for the CSA exam now and love all of your videos, I take thorough notes from them. Thank you! I have a question: why isn’t the “Base Configuration Item” table [cmbd] considered the base table of the CMDB hierarchy instead of the “Configuration Item” [cmdb_ci] table? ServiceNow shows the former as a parent of the latter, which contradicts the latter of being a base table in my mind. Is it because the “Base Configuration Item” table [cmdb] is not itself a part of the cmdb? [cmdb] does not appear in the CI Class Manager. Is this because the [cmdb] table is not itself a specific class of CI, because it serves as the foundational structure that defines the overall cmdb data model and the classes of configuration items?

That's actually a great question. I'm going to look into a decent answer for you and get back with you. I considered including the cmdb table in my slide and description but decided it might actually just lead to confusion. SN says that cmdb_ci is the base table for 'all CIs'. I think that's because cmdb can actually be the base table for things that are NOT CIs also. I guess it's semantics. The great news is, the fact that you noticed this and asked the great question tells me that on this topic, you are extremely well prepared for your exam!

Can you provide guidelines on when a new data element should be considered an attribute of a CI class or a field in different table in the ServiceNow platform?

Really good content. The big deal I've noticed for CMDB is to get dependencies right. That's been the value for me.

Hi Jeff i am a new subscriber , and thanks for the clarity of the provided info, great vlog, there is a very confusing matter in which tool is used for creating dependencies btwn CI : Is it the CI Class Manager OR The CI relationship Editor ? A clarification would be appreciated... Thanks 🥰
