    I primarily want to work in the animation industry, as I've always loved cartoons and anime since I was a kid, and I want to make my own someday. I've been practicing for years, but I sadly still haven't found my art-style. The ones I like the best are the angular styles of artists like Stephen Silver, Genndy Tartakovsky, Mike Mignola, Bruce Timm, Vivienne Medrano, and Robert Valley.

    Such a refreshing perspective on art careers, especially the "what to DO with your artstyle" part! I'm sure it'll be very helpful to artists at the beginning of their career, to get an idea of their artstyle and the industry. Would've definitely loved this type of video a few years back when I was a confused teenager trying to pick an education haha. Thanks for always making such insightful videos! ♥ So happy how anime has become increasingly popular in the past few years and not something to be ashamed of.

    My brain constantly flipflops between wanting crisp and textured lines and clean and smooth lines, and it often affects how my art looks. It does make it difficult to make drawings though cause often I can’t decide what brush to use cause I can’t decide what vibe and style I want the artwork to be in.

    i think skills actually are more important then style when it comes to getting certain jobs. its great if you have a style, some companies want to see your work, and what you have done with it but having the skills and knowledge of certain programs, knowledge of other styles and often the ability to successfully copy an existing style for a game/show/book/animation using learned skills can be more important for getting a job

    As someone who has a degree in animation and has had a very hard time deciding on what to do and finding my art style (even after like 20+ years of drawing) this is incredibly helpful thank you I feel like I finally have some sort of guidance I can actually use that I never got before.

    Oh wow, I actually was just thinking recently that you'd look good w/ short hair😆 it really suits you!
    I'm a big fan of Rumiko Takahashi as well- I never did any Inuyasha traces, but I've modeled a lot of my characters in that style in the past😅
    I think the influences of Takahashi's art are still very present in my artstyle today
    Honestly, the powerpuff girls, PPGZ, and panty&stocking have all been major art influences for me also

    i really like old disney animation & anime style but at the same time i also like to do the minimalist and lineless art style 😭 it’s so confusing

    Thank you so much for the Video. I really needed to hear this because I mostly make anime styled art & recently started to focus more on realism to help "Flesh Out my own Unique Style". I really like your Look Mew it's cute & gives off more of a Sporty Look to me at least.

    Thank you so much for your attempt to help me! I absolutely adore your new hairstyle; you look stunning! Currently, I am facing the challenge of figuring out my art style. For many years, I have been drawing "pretty girls" as a hobby, drawing inspiration from shoujo manga and shonnen anime like Sailor Moon (the anime, not the manga). Now, I am trying to focus my art on creating illustrated books, but I am struggling to maintain consistency and grow my Instagram account. It feels like a chaotic phase that I know will eventually pass. I appreciate your kind and supportive words.

    My style inspiration is from Glen Murakami (2003 animated teen titans), I’ve been using my style to create comics and I’ve been getting comments from pros in the comics industry how I do expressions.
    Unfortunately, I don’t think my art fits animation XD;

    This was super helpful and perfectly timed! Would you say that chances are better with a degree or that you can go without it depending on your skill? I can only afford one major right now, and while it's not in the art field I am still an artist and want to use that skill.

      I'm glad this vid was helpful! I think a degree is pretty optional as an artist, unless you're an international student in the US, a degree may be required

    When you're LEARNING it is actually helpful to copy and trace. There are a lot of lessons you learn fast. However, the point is to LEARN. So you take what you learned and apply it to your own original drawing.

    But yet art teachers still tell you not to draw anime at all and need a different art style, because no one likes it and you will be seen as immature, and won't get hired. Even when evidence shows anime styles are growing in popularity.
