If you ever doubt whether you should do something always remember the rule of cool. Hitting that entire bio ball with a single fungal was definitely cool, so it was the right option.
It is beating grandmasters with stupid stuff, not loosing against grandmasters with stupid stuff. As long as it is does not make the game boring, it should be allowed.
22:35 I love harstems description of an orchestra: “lots of noises at the same time. Lots of nice little sounds” This is how I imagine someone who’s heard classical music once describe it to someone who’s heard it never
The music is written by a team of 3 people. One of them wrote the music for Batman The Animated Series in the 90s. If you listen to the intro music to that Batman, you can really tell his influence in the music on the tracks featuring horns.
Yeah my vote is, to use your own judgement on whether it is impossible to complete the challenge. If you determine it's impossible I don't mind when you allow yourself something else. It also probably keeps it competitive for future cheese games.
TLDR: small dirty tricks are allowed and are fun to watch. I particularly enjoy, when a challange going on for a while forces an opponent to a particular, very static behavior that can be cracked up with just a little tweak to the original strategy. The fungal moment was the absolute peak of that game.
I’m fine with bending the “rules.” I think the entertaining thing about a lot of the series you have is how you make the theory and analysis fun. By outlining parameters and discussing them. My knowledge and understanding of the game improves, and gains nuance for various particulars I’ve never thought of. In summary, the fungals were exciting and analysis on point. I laughed and learned. Thanks captain!
It's the spirit of the challenge AND winning the game (BEATING GM w/ Stupid Stuff). So long as you tried what you set out to do, it seems appropriate to adjust mid-game - sometimes to win outright or sometimes to make it a cooler/stupider build and sometimes both
i remembering challenge pacifist zealots, when at some moment every rule step by step was thrown away to get absolute insane one of the coolest game on this channel in my opinion. And the spirit was there. So yes, following the rules all the way through for not a single lawyer can blame you in comments is a stupid and painful idea in my opinion. Epic games, fun, content - should be on top.
33:45 that's actually pretty sick countering marines, the infestors grab splash damage unit from downtown, the marines have to run forward to attack it, which opens them up to the lings. Ghosts? good luck spending supply on them vs against 50 million lings! Uber broken.
I think having spellcasters and other units support your main strategy is perfectly fine! You are still doing mass lings and watching different strategies revolve around your main plan is cool to watch.
This seems like a great challenge for practicing Zerg fundamentals- creep spread, larva management, queen positioning, mass expansion and swarm tactics
I think some exceptions are fine as long as you stick to the spirit of the challenge but more than that unless not using a specified ability *is* the challenge (ie mass marines without stim) if you're going to allow an unit in the first place all its abilities should be allowed.
I’ve played some dumb builds alongside some dumb unit compositions and I’ve found out the game is a lot more fun for me if I build whatever I want as long as I get to the end goal of whatever that dumb unit composition is. So I think bending the rules a little to be able to get to that end goal and potentially win is definitely more fun for us viewers but probably more fun for you as well. Thanks for another video Harstem.
I like Harstem's comparisons and stories. They make me laugh. The game provides a source of drama and the show goes on. It doesn't matter if u win or lose.
those were some sick funguls... you were right captain he was asking for it. If you were playing a toss challenge and you had built a defencive ruptor for the bio ball it would have been valid and entertaining as well. it was not only in the spirit of the challenge it was also entertaining..
Captain, are your control groups 1-0 on the keyboard as well? I see you use 4 as hatchery/nexus/etc. That's what I do, but I was curious if it's actually setup differently on your kb
100% should just be the spirit of the challenge with rule bends. At the end of the day so long as it's not every game that rules get bent, and those bends aren't just changing to a regular game with full blown regular army comps, they should be allowed.
Ohhhhhh🎉!!! never mind as soon as I typed that you popped up like 55 lings and the best surround I’ve seen in months…. That’s why your the captain, stay classy
I think that for defense, anything should be allowed. Offense should mostly stick to the challenge (exceptions may be made based on the spirit of the challenge).
I think it's all about the balance. If it's too hard ( and just know and feel it in the middle of the game ), be flexible a little bit ( not too much ofc ). It's also fun to watch some spontanous action from you that can make a win. Stupid, but smart too :D:D.
Always a fan of Harstem having a fallback for threats the stupid build cant deal with alone. Cool to see how one or two of the correct unit, bring back the viability of the unit we're "massing" etc
I'd say, anything that improves the use of lings in this case, is allowed, so slowing enemies for instance makes the lings more capable of catching and killing...
I think the spirit of the challenge is enough.... Modify the challenge mid-game if you have to, it's your challenge... I think the thing that makes it fun to watch is 3-5 games in a row with a "similar" challenge, so we can see how it works against a number of different opponent choices.
I guess giving you an out if the ennemy abuses the weakness to a stupid degree, disregarding any other threat you could pose to him if you weren't sticking to a unit only, it's one thing to play around your weakness, its another if the opponent start to play the game in a way that would make him looose instantly if you wouldn't stick to the challenge, a basic exemple to explain my point would be a invisible unit challenge only against a terran and the terran start spending thousand of mineral to put turret everywhere.
U can cheat when it comes to defence. Its boring when enemy maxes on archon zelot colossus or some kind of mass helion mech and u cant do anything to face it with only lings in this case. Imo most of viewers would rather watch u play the idea of the move and cheat only when its necessary to do not die
The challenge should post some kind of inconvenience all throughout the game. I do not mind rule changes as long as they keep being fun. "no scan challenge" and then "just scanning once" = no fun and cheating "macro Nexus challenge" and then trying your best to make it work with all means necessary = fun
I am USUALLY a stickler for rules. However, you titled this MASS lings, not lings monobattle. With that phrasing, I think it's perfectly acceptable to include a fungal or muta harass or whatever. That being said, I'd love to see some monobattle again.
I think it's the creative attempts to do stuff that we enjoy, as well as a win at the end, rather than the strict (can only do x or y) And tbh I dont even know enough about SCto know if you cheated or not lol
TBH I don't like challenges designed around silly strategy. I like challenges designed around a strategy and you try your best to win no matter what. It's starcraft sometimes it is required to respond a certain way to an opponents attack, if sticking to your strat means losing the game it's meaningless to the overall purpose.
If you’re opponents are being idiots you are allowed to punish them even if it’s technically against the rules. But it’s better to win while sticking to the challenge.
I think if they do something that they deserve to lose like clumping marines, you should do it regardless of the challenge because if they're doing that they never deserve the win.
id even be willing to say if they make some dumb play that should obviously cost them the game, you should play to demote them entirely. (screw the rules if they fly 4 medivacs over a bunch of spores and lose them entirely or something like that)
For me you should follow the challenge all the way around without cheating. All the point reside for me within the beauty to achieve such difficult challenges. You can make the challenge somehow easier also
If you ever doubt whether you should do something always remember the rule of cool. Hitting that entire bio ball with a single fungal was definitely cool, so it was the right option.
Hmm 🤔I thought it was, when in doubt, rub one out?
@@str8Ball1n jeez
@@str8Ball1n That's for after hitting the giant fungal.
It is beating grandmasters with stupid stuff, not loosing against grandmasters with stupid stuff. As long as it is does not make the game boring, it should be allowed.
I know it was technically against the rules but that Terran definitely deserved to be fungal'd
It was so satisfying to watch too!
Harstem - *loses*
"This is worse than winning."
🤣
I'm a fan of sticking to the spirit of the challenge. Bending the rules to get the W is part of the fun.
22:35 I love harstems description of an orchestra: “lots of noises at the same time. Lots of nice little sounds”
This is how I imagine someone who’s heard classical music once describe it to someone who’s heard it never
that cluster of marines getting fungal'ed was way too ASMR to not do it
I love the self-banter with the reasoning following the rules. He was REALLY asking for that fungal 😆
The music is written by a team of 3 people. One of them wrote the music for Batman The Animated Series in the 90s. If you listen to the intro music to that Batman, you can really tell his influence in the music on the tracks featuring horns.
8:22 love that panic stim
I think zergling+casters is a very reasonable ruleset, and am generally a spirit of the law believer
Yeah my vote is, to use your own judgement on whether it is impossible to complete the challenge. If you determine it's impossible I don't mind when you allow yourself something else. It also probably keeps it competitive for future cheese games.
Harstem: Grandmaster. Legal Knowledge. Excellent Singing. What can't he do?
Following the challenge for 99% of the game to get a win is just as entertaining as 100%, as long as you give us that moment of attrition.
TLDR: small dirty tricks are allowed and are fun to watch.
I particularly enjoy, when a challange going on for a while forces an opponent to a particular, very static behavior that can be cracked up with just a little tweak to the original strategy.

That fungal was so juicy it's 100% allowed

you're the captain, captain. you run the show, we're just along for the ride.
And you cannot say it was not a satisfying fungal. That fungal definitely added entertainment to the video, so it is definitely allowed.
13:00 only the moneyist of fungals are allowed, for example if the opponent is “asking for it”
I’ve played some dumb builds alongside some dumb unit compositions and I’ve found out the game is a lot more fun for me if I build whatever I want as long as I get to the end goal of whatever that dumb unit composition is. 10:10 a lawyer degree, not to be confused with a law degree
"Mines are pretty good when they work for you!"
You know, most people are playing Terran instead of Zerg when they realize this. xD
30:13 Zerglinian Rhapsody
those were some sick funguls... you were right captain he was asking for it. If you were playing a toss challenge and you had built a defencive ruptor for the bio ball it would have been valid and entertaining as well. it was not only in the spirit of the challenge it was also entertaining..
I'm happy as long as you stay as close to the challenge as possible. Those fungals were completely fine in my book.
Captain, are your control groups 1-0 on the keyboard as well? I see you use 4 as hatchery/nexus/etc. That's what I do, but I was curious if it's actually setup differently on your kb
Winning the game is like pulling the rug underneath your opponents feed static defense is most
Harstem saw the juiciest fungle the lord had ever graced the zerg race with and decided that perhaps it was worth bending BGMWSS rules just a tad.
Thank you for the amazing content.
The terran asked for the fungal
100% should just be the spirit of the challenge with rule bends.

That Zergling rhapsody, though: 10/10
fungal like that is allowed. We here for good videos
the second match was so good, that all in build rocked
Idea for bgmwss: tech king. You have to try to research every single upgrade available before you win, and build at least 1 of every unit.
Kev add burrow when your floating a little extra gas early you can pull off some sick surrounds and save your drones. It’s not expensive
Ohhhhhh🎉!!! never mind as soon as I typed that you popped up like 55 lings and the best surround I’ve seen in months…. That’s why your the captain, stay classy
BGWSS idea: you must kill all of the destructible rocks on a map before winning. No unit limitations.
13:26 - It's BEATING grandmaster with stupid stuff, not "losing to grandmasters with stupid stuff" - We support the excessive force
spirit of the challenge over rules lawyering
I think that for defense, anything should be allowed. Offense should mostly stick to the challenge (exceptions may be made based on the spirit of the challenge).

I have a "lawyer degree" 🤣🤣🤣
Always a fan of Harstem having a fallback for threats the stupid build cant deal with alone. Cool to see how one or two of the correct unit, bring back the viability of the unit we're "massing" etc
Bioterran Rhapsody was my favourite part :)
me and my friends bromance are improved by watching harstem videos until we fall asleep together
Stealing mines, what a sick idea. We NEVER see that
18:00 I mean, we can only pronounce it correctly, if we know what correctly is... first time I hear it pronounced for instance 😝
Absolutely permited!
This dude didn't had what it takes to win the stupid stuff you threw at him.
I guess giving you an out if the ennemy abuses the weakness to a stupid degree, disregarding any other threat you could pose to him if you weren't sticking to a unit only, it's one thing to play around your weakness, its another if the opponent start to play the game in a way that would make him looose instantly if you wouldn't stick to the challenge, a basic exemple to explain my point would be a invisible unit challenge only against a terran and the terran start spending thousand of mineral to put turret everywhere.
neural parasite in the worker and wins with the enemy race. BEAT Grandmasters
Good luck on homestory cup tomorrow!
U can cheat when it comes to defence. Its boring when enemy maxes on archon zelot colossus or some kind of mass helion mech and u cant do anything to face it with only lings in this case. Imo most of viewers would rather watch u play the idea of the move and cheat only when its necessary to do not die
Sticking to the majority of the challenge, or rather, the rough outline of it is good enough. I'd definitely rather have you win.
neuraling mines just seems like fungaling with extra steps
The challenge should post some kind of inconvenience all throughout the game. I do not mind rule changes as long as they keep being fun.
"no scan challenge" and then "just scanning once" = no fun and cheating
"macro Nexus challenge" and then trying your best to make it work with all means necessary = fun
After further review, we agree with your decision to fungal.
Would MUCH prefer to see you win!
I am USUALLY a stickler for rules. However, you titled this MASS lings, not lings monobattle. With that phrasing, I think it's perfectly acceptable to include a fungal or muta harass or whatever. That being said, I'd love to see some monobattle again.
You do your best with these, a couple of spellcasters to make it fair is good - after all you go against the best players 😂
Interesting to see UA-cam autodeleting posts by itself... Very interesting.
I think it's the creative attempts to do stuff that we enjoy, as well as a win at the end, rather than the strict (can only do x or y)
And tbh I dont even know enough about SCto know if you cheated or not lol
I would have flipped my table if a GM terran clumped that badly and didn’t get bopped on the head
I like the fungal in the early game
24:00 I may not pronounce gouda correctly in your language but at least I’m not making up whole new conjugations for verbs in it |:^(
Making of Starcraft II music: ua-cam.com/video/7wrxmQn5EcM/v-deo.html
Follow the spirit of the challenge, it is more fun if you win
Beautiful 🤩
Don't let people rustle your Jimmies without your consent, you're worth more than that.
Bending the rules to win is the way!
I'm here for the random karaoke moments
Honestly, it would have been a crime NOT to throw that fungal.
Situational self defense is fine! Follow the spirit
I think it is like a test at school. If you can just argue your way around why the wrong answer isn't so bad, it is acceptable.
At what school do you go to? If I put in a non word for word definition, I lose points.
...its the best way for us, to learn little moves, if u have to save yourself from time to time imo...
5:33 I admit I burst out laughing at your rendition of a Beatles classic. Just be aware that Banshee pilots are probably Mrs, not Mr!
Harstemian Rhapsody.
Can Hamster add trade info to these videos too?
Even if the medivqcs don't heal the lings for very long, the marines will probably shoot them out of the sky, which is still awesome.
TBH I don't like challenges designed around silly strategy. I like challenges designed around a strategy and you try your best to win no matter what. Terran always deserves to be fungal'd.
Spirit!
your manager is TLO? play some supcom with him ! i loved his matches
I think if they do something that they deserve to lose like clumping marines, you should do it regardless of the challenge because if they're doing that they never deserve the win.

Hey Captain, it would be interesting to know how much MMR you give up by commentating your own matches live
The spirit is what matters. I'm no literalist
I don't even think it was against the rules. Ling/Infestor only is already challenge enough
Rules are made to be broken. Just like terran turtle.
It's "Van-Go"
