7:51 I wonder, do you think McCracken has a slight WoB sympathy 🙂? Maybe if we dig around deep enough and McCracken's garage there's one of these way in the back, under three tarps, behind a pile of crates, pass the 1964 1/2 Mustang... it might just be there 😀.
He wouldn't. McCracken would hate a villain popping up in his backyard of Solaris like that and would vehemently oppose them. Possibly even dusting off the old pilot suit and getting the Solaris boys back together for a ruck with the Wobbies.
The ilClan write up mentions that Malcom Buhl’s reborn ComGuard fielded the Raijin RJN-301-B armed with three ER Mediums in the left arm, an SRM 6 in the left torso, and an iNarc and SRM 2 in the right torso which were built in secret during the 3120’s on Quentin. When the DCMS took Quentin and Independence Weaponry’s facilities there they swapped in a Lord’s Light ER PPC, switched the SRM 2 to an Improved One-Shot model, added CASE II, and clad it in Ballistic-Reinforced Armor.
Hey, your hatred of the wobbies is both understood and relatively justified, considering how the lore panned out. Never feel bad about not reading an entry you just didn't feel like.
Umm… let me guess when they where building the concept at the factory they only had toilet paper rolls and kitchen bowls. Also it’s a full write up in the Illclan book.
None that I know but the original art was by Victor Musical Industries who made some art out of house in a very anime style but this was removed for this style later on.
Love this mech, It looks fantastic and performs well. i own one of the old unseens, the C variant is my favorite with the C3I , large pulse, 3 ER mediums and streak 6 adds another 1.5 tons of armor with a much better heat management. He is correct though the re-seen version looks blocky and terrible.
Hello CR. I really like some of the variants for the Raijin. Especially, the RJN-200-A. Although, I would remove the Improved C3 system and replace it with an additional IS-DSHS, an Anti-Missile System, and a ton of ammo. With the ubiquity of ECM and ECCM on the field of battle, the Raijin would be better served in getting up close and personal with an enemy and thus making its ECM a 'moot' point to use against it. As for gaining one for personal use. I could see a Mercenary Unit obtaining one or two of these Mechs as payment for services (If you can trust Com-Star that far). Or, perhaps salvaging examples off the field of battle and cobbling one together from parts. In general, I like the design... although I HATE its artwork. I do realize that the artists were attempting to make the Mech look unlike any other design, within some restraints. If I were to attempt to Sheppard an artist to draw a new version of this Mech, I would start with an 'egg' shaped ovoid, with bulbous partial ovoids for the torsos, and then turn the hemispheres of the arms 'sideways' with the wide base attached to the torso. The 'Jenner' looking legs are just fine, although I would fix the shape of the toes. Thinking about this, the arms would, by their very shape and nature, be 'flip-able' to the rear. This would be a rather 'rude' surprise to an enemy attempting a rear attack on the Mech. This would be due to the fact that the Mech uses no Lower Arm, or Hand actuators in its design. Although I have not run the numbers, I would think a further 'upgrade' of this design in a later 'Era' would entail an XXL engine and Heavy Ferro-Fiberous Armor, and perhaps an additional heat sink. I could be wrong, however.
What the FUCK is that?! Has a Uziel look to it, might be just me, sure it doesn't have the dog legs and technically no arm pods but still as the same weird layout of weapons far above the forward protruding cockpit. The weapons are kinda similar too, Uziel had 2x PPCs, 1 SRM/Streak or whatever it carried and 2 MGs.
Hey, CR, I was wondering if you would ever entertain the notion of doing a concise 10-ish minute video devoted just to Blake. For someone like me, who is too lazy to navigate to Sarna and too dull to recall piecemeal details from other videos, a dedicated video would be superb. And I'm not saying make it a LoreWarrior style where you quote other readouts, I'd be happy with a CR spoken summary. All I know about Blake is: Word of Blake = cult fanaticism, and cults = evil, therefore Blake = evil. Every time we hear Blake's soothing, reassuring words, we're supposed to recoil like snakes and hiss at him. But I don't know why; it's like a 1984's "two minutes of hate" reaction. I'd like to know why Blakey Boy is such a bad dude.
Well Jerome Blake was actually a good leader who had the forethought to setup a lot of what Comstar would do during the dark period of the Succession wars which was namely to secure humanities technology and not allow the great houses to destroy or control it. That said his close aid and friend Conrad Toyama had similar but ultimately more nefarious plans. When Blake died Toyama was the one to instill the weird religious like notions of Comstar, he created a fake word of blake document with which to follow and assumed no one would ever learn the truth of his peversions of Blakes ideals. However a copy of Blakes original text survived somehow and when this was revealed it created the schism. Those who believed the real text was a fake to cause a rift while the Blakists held onto the fake text created by Toyama. Not a bad idea but the way it was all implemented was heavy handed and not anywhere near as subtle as it should have for the group. They just suddenly have fleets and armies and agents everywhere for plot convenience and the writers just kept pushing them as some super villain type group that few existing players cared about really.
@@CriticalRocket So Blake = good, Toyama = Word of Blake author, WoB = cult = bad. But in the end, they both envisioned a Comstar that hoarded precious technology to preserve it. So, apart from the fake text lie, how is Toyama evil? I'm assuming it has something to do with how far the religious slant is taken in practice by WoBlakists, but again my lack of knowledge fails me here.
Odd design aesthetic, but a decent set of stats. Maybe a bit light on armor, although some of that is just the rather high rear torso percentages. A 6/9/6 mover shouldn't be worrying quite so much about being shot in the ass.
One of my favorite mechs EVER. Ever since the Comstar Sourcebook came out. Love that thing.

I like the ball-turret hard points, those toes are kind of goofy though.

Its a larger section in Il Clan Recognition Guide 23
I will need to grab that PDF at some point, thanks Shawn :)

I prefer the name "word of flake".
Umm… let me guess when they where building the concept at the factory they only had toilet paper rolls and kitchen bowls.

As a Com Guard player, I only occasionally use it tbh
Have one. Never had a chance to play it 😢.
What anime was this from?

@CriticalRocket hm. I am super curious now. Because I could have SWORN I saw this in the background of robot carnival....

Its a big write up in recent guide 23
So...essentially a War Turkey? Or a Doom Chicken? Odd design, but I'm sure its speed and firepower make it nasty ...
...This is why tanks are superior. But that redesign pulls a 180 and its glorious!

Odd that a "new" comstar mech looks so VERY clan like...bird like and NOT humanoid at all.
Oh crap. Rocket is trash talking colonists.
Do you want zaku2s, cause that's how you get zaku2s
You say that like it's a bad thing.
Demon chicken!

Basically the Comstar Jenner but with some anime flair. I think it's another one of those rule of cool designs really.
I guess, though 50 ton Jenner for sure.

👍
Looks like a buff Jenner? Hah.
Original art is better for this one.
