- Sugarcane or sugar cane is a species of (often hybrid) tall, perennial grass that is used for sugar production. The plants are 2-6 m (6-20 ft) tall with stout, jointed, fibrous stalks that are rich in sucrose,which accumulates in the stalk internodes. Sucrose (table sugar) is extracted from sugarcane in specialized mill factories. It is consumed directly in confectionery, used to sweeten beverages, as a preservative in jams and conserves, as a decorative finish for cakes and pâtisserie, and as a raw material in the food industry.
Sugarcane processing produces cane sugar (sucrose) from sugarcane. Other products of the processing include bagasse, molasses, and filtercake.
Bagasse, the residual dry fiber of the cane after cane juice has been extracted, is used for several purposes:
- Fuel for the boilers and kilns
- Production of paper, paperboard products, and reconstituted panelboard
- Agricultural mulch
- As a raw material for production of chemicals
In 2020, global production of sugarcane was 1.87 billion tonnes, with Brazil producing 40% of the world total, India with 20%, and China producing 6% (table).

How long between when the sugar cane is cut and when its loaded to go too the mill?
after they cut it they will transport it to the mill and unload it right away directly to the milling process and after a few days you have the breakdown results of your income and get paid..that is how it works here in ph

this is not the good way of harvesting of cane , in INDIA we don't burn cane we just cut it from the farm & transfer it to the sugar factory , burning of sugarecane is decrease it's recovery , production & it's weights ....so we don't burn it

Burning the sugarcane leaves before harvesting is on of the biggest air pollution problems in south east asia.
Rather than burning it, there should be a way to separate it and then use it for something else, like feeding the animals etc. that's what people do here in Pakistan and India. It's not useless!
how does it pollute the air when it took that same carbon dioxide from the air a few months before, the total is still back to 0.
I can understand if you mean this process releases all that carbon dioxide in a single day and discomforts people nearby.
