    i like banana. in my village, 2 must have plants are banana and coconut. during hard time, when crop failed, we sometimes mix rice with banana corm. the sucker and the flower can be cook as vegetable. the stem is for pig food as i still do today, the leaves can be use to wrap some particular cuisine. and the fruit, the most valuable part is for me

      Thanks a 'bunch' for the really nice video. Here are some less known, valuable facts on bananas & their utility including, as chips...
      > Bananas are both a vegetable & fruit and grow well in tropical climates.
      > Banana plants, also considered as trees, are regarded as sacred & used in many ways, esp in South India even today.
      > Banana plants' flowers & inner stem are both edible and offer health benefits.
      > Leaves of Banana (& Plantain) trees are used like natural, organic plates on which food is served. This old tradition of South India dates back at least few hundred years.
      > Banana chips, more so plantain chips that come from Plantains (which are like bananas but starchier inside & thicker skins) are delicious especially when cooked in coconut oil, seasoned with sea salt.
      > Salted Plantain & Banana chips are originally from Kerala & TamilNadu in Southern India and have been exported to other countries since early or mid 1900s.
      > In the last few decades, Banana fibers from the outer stem have found innovative use in such sustainable products as ropes, bags, sanitary napkin subs etc.
      ◇ Not just the fruit but the whole Banana plant or tree is one of nature's greatest gifts to any man (esp. the "poor" man).

    There are no Banana seedlings. Bananas don’t have seeds. As the banana plant grows, it puts off two or three shoots at the bottom. Those shoots are taken from the plant and replanted elsewhere, leaving behind one shoot in addition to the plant. After the plant has been harvested, it is cut down to the ground level, and the leftover shoot is left to grow to full-size, repeating the process over and over again.

    • @ivorscruton5121
      @ivorscruton5121 Місяць тому

      There is an old variety of bananas that have seeds. They are not very palatable and have large black seeds, which make eating them tedious. The Cavendish variety, which is the most popular, still has the remnants of the seeds, the tiny black specks, radiating around the centre.
      Personally, I grow nine different varieties, other than Cavendish, all propagate via suckers, as you mentioned. The second growth plant is, if let to mature, not as productive, its best to dig up the old root system and plant a new sucker.
