The reason the Time Battlemage debuffs have a hard time sticking isn't due to Balthier's lower magic (any character can be a competent physical or magick attacker with enough Lores and decent gear, character stats are mostly there for flavor, Balthier is actually a great White Mage since he starts with Steal like Fran and Vaan for example), it is due to Time Battlemage lacking Mystic Armor to increase magic consistently and their Magic Lores/Augments being more spread out. I do get that you're choosing not to use summons for the sake of challenge, but I'm thinking... aren't all the summons in this game also in some way zodiac-themed? (And as such, I feel it might be thematically appropriate to allow each character to use the one matching their assigned zodiac sign, as there *is* a catch to summoning, in that the summon replaces the rest of the party on the field while active.)
Summons got a huge buff in this rerelease. OG 12 had ridiculous conditions, (like the whole party being petrified or something), on the stronger summons that prevented them from using their limits. Now most use their limit upon exiting the battle iirc. And considering some of the summons can one shot end game bosses... I think it's fair to not use them. But I definitely agree with assigning them to each character based on zodiac( even if that means less ability/equipment choices).

tbh this isn’t much of a challenge run since this game (the international version) was originally balanced around one job, the two jobs thing was just added in the 2017 remaster and completely trivializes any difficulty. maybe add more rules, maybe stuff like… no wait mode, no items, no stealing, no invisible weapons, no bazaar. just to name a few off the top of my head
Really enjoyed watching your playthrough! I never pronounced Balzac like you did, it’s definitely interesting going through others’ experience. 😂 It was so fun hearing all your comments and passion for Star Wars (as I don’t remember the scenes as much I you have).
I kind of like the dynamic between Penelo and Vaan with her being sort of a moral compass to his shenanigans even though he really is a good kid at heart and it also ties in very well to their budding "suggested" romance in Revenant Wings. Its also kind of a "passing down to the next generation" trope with how Balthier's and Fran's partnership mirror to that of our Orphaned kids in the sequel. Also, I'm strangely attracted to short haired Basch. Like he hits different when he has his brother's armor at the end of the game (spoilers) Again, another lovely video Jam! I was always laughing with the edits. Specially the "Daddy" with Balthier. Honestly, the man could do no wrong 😂
Balthier's worst look is, ironically, his main gameplay costume. He looks cool as prisoner Basch and as Judge, but the one thing I really hate about this game more than anything is that everyone's designs other than Balthier and Fran's are just godawful ugly. No one in this version of Ivalice seems to have ANY kind of drip.
Whenever I describe Final Fantasy XII to people, I explain that it's Star Wars, but stars C3PO and R2-D2. The reason you don't like Penelo is because she's C3PO
1:47 it’s well documented that George Lucas based Star Wars off of Japanese inspirations. Which were very rare in 1977. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hidden_Fortress George Lucas took visual techniques right out of jidaigeki film and plopped them right into a galaxy far, far away. the name "Obi-Wan Kenobi" contains Japanese words for sash/belt and sword. People gonna complain about plot similarities from something based on Japanese culture? Don’t get me started on Wedge and Biggs…
Pen's pretty much an older sister to Vaan by backstory, and childhood friend. So more a worrywart by this point in game. Also you don't notice why the hoverbike failed the first time through even though it's obvious if you played the game.
33:11 I'm actually surprised you didn't make a down bad meme during this scene Unrelated but what they did to Vossler was NASTY, like... LET MY BARA BEARDED MAN LIVE PEACEFULLY AND MARRIED TO BASCH LIKE AN OLD-FASHIONED OLD MAN YAOI
as a IZJS player, of course you can beat it. when i learned that Zodiac Age has dual classes, it felt wrong and i think its not needed. so i just play single class. and the classes you get are balanced - so thats good
Ngl, though you’ve shot yourself in the foot with Vaan/Balthier (white mage/time mage on your two best dps lmao), you’ve got all four debuff technicks as well as scathe and holy, this run is very doable.
12:51 not entirely true lol. Back then, it was normal to never know what princes and princesses looked like. Hell, even their parents were hard to come by. But it was an incredibly rare occasion for a prince(ss) to be seen in public. This is how Jasmine in Aladdin got away with just putting a hood on when she snuck out of the palace; that’s all she really needed (she might have not even really needed the hood; she just needed to look normal lol).
I like Penelo, but her outfit leaves a lot to be desired. I like the top, but the legs are just...pillars? They're akin to the two-legged rocky dino monsters, the one that was on the bridge in the mines. I forget what they're called 😂 But yeah she's cute, I always had a crush on her as a kid.
Thing is FF12 is nothing like Starwars. where would you put Penelo. C3PO? R2? Vann isn't Luke. Ashe is a princess but she isn't Leia. Balthier isn't Han solo. and Frann is Chewbacca. Lastly Basch is not Old ben. Sorry I didn't need to go on a tangent but I had to. As for the audio quality. they had to compress the audio since the Blu-ray was still being worked on at that point.
Not really sure why this is a challenge run, per se. The game is balanced around one job anyway -- there's very minimal difference between this version and the IZJS one it was based on, which only allowed one job. The main thing I see is that the jobs aren't that optimal for the characters but the difference in stats isn't so huge it matter TOO much. I write this only having watched the intro so we'll see how it gets on, I suppose....
Man those class choices are painful. Also Ashe's best class is actually Knight and not a mage. Fun playthrough idea. I love 12 and Zodiac Age really makes you plan things a lot more. Gambit system is GOAT
@@forcelightningcable9639 her stats and access to abilities with certain espers just make her broken. I thought it was the agreed on most common choice for her. Every other playthrough i see has her as a knight.
I love this game. The Star Wars vibe is nice, and even if it wasn't super original, I think it did a lot to expand what a Final Fantasy game can be. (My opinion did develop over time. I hated this game when it came out lol)
I'm sad because my life and joy are ff7 8 9 and 10 but that one is just inexistant for me. From start I knew it. I dislike everything in it and the geopolitical story is no help. There is nothing I enjoy in it. I can't criticize the game really I just don't like it personally. But I am happy to get to really enjoy 4 of those ff. And that's something!
I think it is easier to get strong early in FF12 Zodiak age against the original game but the chars are limited in their equipment and skill veriaty whit the class boards. So everythink got its pros and contras but the partymember getting mutch more unike and your video and your idea behind it shows that very well. Cool idea and keep up the good work. 😉👍 And a tipp for you at the end: you can do the trial mode from the main menu whit your current save and get some good loots from the enemies and chests there and they are even better whit the thiefgloves to aprove the stolen goods and the chance to steal them in the first place and the diamantbangle that can give some rare items from chests (extremely powerful for the chests found in the trial mode) whitch can be found in a chest in the room of the first trial 😉
What do you mean? The shape? They're supposed to be like that because of her people's nature as rabbitfolk. They do look weird but it is intentional at least.
Honestly I don't really feel that it copied star wars and I played original ff12 when came out on console, I played IZJS when you had to use emu and squish the Japanese and English game together ( BTW I still have physical copies of both games they look cool ), and I played the ZA. I did all what you can do in all the versions. And I still never felt like it is coping star wars. BTW I like 12 very much, it is last single player FF that I enjoyed, the entries from 13 onward were no longer for me. BTW I never summon and I use quickenings to finish of exactly three bosses because it allows me to ignore there invulnerability mechanics.
Final Fantasy XII my first Final Fantasy Game Experience. So a Videos involves it, I considered a Subscribed if it's Positive to the game. But if not, Just only comments.
I'm fairly sure ProJared ripped the Star Wars comparison asunder in his FF12 video. Reks being a Pisces got a chuckle out of me; I'm an Aries whose elder sibling is a Pisces. As for FF12's FMVs, I felt that the real-time graphics did the cutscenes well enough that FMVs were less necessary. Squenix had finally learned to block and direct a scene well in 3D, so when the FMV scenes do come up I'm mostly asking myself what technical reason there was to go to one. Vayne's speech in Rabanastre seems like an odd choice because it easily could've been pulled off in engine, whereas the whole battle scene at the banquet pretty much had to be prerendered in order to work.
some say they hate Vaan as the main character, but i hate Penelo as part of the MCs. the only redeeming character was her magic power. but just like vaan, he has no actual purpose.
I'm like 3 mins into the video, they aren't Star Wars references, they're references to Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress which happens to be what Star Wars is inspired by, therefore, not a Japanese studio taking inspiration from a western franchise, it's a Japanese studio taking inspiration from a Japanese movie. Vaan is not Luke, Fran is not Chewbacca, Balthier and Han are nothing alike, Ashe and Leia are nothing alike, Penelo has no comparable role in Star Wars, this is such a dated comparison and has been proven wrong time and time again. Not a hate comment, just pointing that out. The most one could draw a line between Star Wars and FF12 is a handful of tracks on the OST and that's it really.
that's right no one in SquareEnix ever saw a single Star Wars movie at all and there is no possible way that any little thing in Star Wars crept into the game whatsoever :|
@@SwordSaint892 I didn't say that, I'm saying the similarities between Star Wars and Final Fantasy XII are negligible at best, there is no Basch in Star Wars, there is no Penelo in Star Wars, Palpatine is a dusty old fart who talks in wicked cartoon villain and Vayne was driven by both fear and ambition, the only similarity between Gabranth and Vader is they wear a helmet. Vaan is unrecognizable from Luke, Fran has actual dialogue unlike Chewbacca, Han is a cocky reluctant hero while Balthier was a mentor to the party, Leia's role was only to her republic where as Ashe acted to free the world from both Venat and the Occuria, which brings me to the Occuria who have no equivalent in Star Wars, Bagamnan, while being a rough boss fight was far less imposing than Boba Fett and had a significant lessened role from that of Boba, Larsa has no counterpart in Star Wars, the Marquis and Lando are nothing alike except for the whole double agent thing, and guess what, all of the similarities between FFXII and SW come from The Hidden Fortress. Don't believe me take from the horses mouth Akitoshi Kawazu who produced FFXII who did say that the similarities weren't a conscious decision during development, that the plot points that Star Wars fans are picking up on art from Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress. Lastly to touch on your sarcastic response, I'm fully aware and not friggin stupid that there are SW fans in the FF dev teams, Wedge and Biggs are literally named after the SW characters, Red XIII's name was a reference to SW, so get off your high horse and actually research before you make a comment that make you look goofy.
@@ajdove1823 when u actually have to type THAT much to find little nitpicks to make Balthier and Fran not just be Han and Chewie, i don't know what to tell ya lmfao but yep, i'm sure the goofy one hyuk
@@SwordSaint892 You made a dumb sarcastic remark and I pointed out all the ways you were wrong. That's called having a conversation. Also if you actually read the comment, you would've seen that I didn't stop with Balthier and Fran, I literally pointed out every single way that FFXII is only minorly like Star Wars BECAUSE THEY'RE BOTH INSPIRED BY THE SAME SAMURAI FILM FROM THE 50S. My initial comment was intended to educate and say hey, did you know the similarities is because of their source inspiration? I'm tired of seeing the damn Star Wars comparison because the similarities are negligible at best, it's a cold take that's 17 years old and I'm tired of seeing it. FFXII is my favorite FF and I hate that no one on UA-cam can talk about it without making that dumb, dated comparison, that has been disproven time and time again by Matsuno himself.

*I ended up writing an essay. TLDR: she ate.* final fantasy gaymers?? i thought i was only one! sidebar people who say XII is unoriginal have never played it. this is a running theme in the final fantasy community, where people give reviews of FF games that are unfounded, OR they critique the game OUT of context, i.e. ignoring the time and circumstance that lead to the game being the way it is. also one thing that enrages me is that people pretend as if FF is NOT a series franchise... when reviewing an FF title they act as if the previous installment's reception would have no impact on the next. prime example, a massive "critique" of FF13 was "its a good game b-b-b-but its closed world and LineeeEEEeEaRRR :(((". Meanwhile 13's predecessor, 12 was a massively open world game with a complicated, long winded story that requires players to actually pay attention to dialogue and little details, and is full of political and social themes. One of the biggest complaints against 12 was that the plot was hard to follow and overly complex. Square actually listened to the critique and made the next game (13), have a straight forward and direct plot set in a fixed, easy to follow and laid out world, making for a cute and simple narrative experience. Then the same people who called 12 plotless and too open rolled their eyes at 13 and said "ugh omggg so linear. the world's not really open. the plot is kinda simple. i feel so bound to the plot." like bitch be for real!!! 😭 I swear people will never be happy no matter what you do, and at this point im really convinced that a lot of ppl just got a hate bone in their body or something. secondly the world of Ivalice is easily one of the most unique settings in recent fiction. As someone with a real passion for art design and history, game design, and pop culture history, hearing 12 be called unoriginal genuinely offends me. 12 served creativity on a bejeweled platter. The VISUALS ate; the cutscene CGI can still look good af to this day, the outfits and character designs are striking, the ARCHITECTURE is in a world of its own. Its one of the few pieces of media that successfully blends high fantasy wanderlust with industrial revolution sci fi. Its one of the few pieces of media that can have airplanes and battle cruisers along with dinosaurs and witch craft and it doesnt feel silly. Its giving Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, 12's blend of machines and magic, mechs and monsters, is something i have not seen before or since playing it. The worldbuilding is S tier just off atmosphere, plot, and design alone, not even to mention the cohesion of the world, the SOUNDTRACK, and the cultural inspirations for the game's creative direction. The middle eastern and indian inspiration is such a breath of fresh air from most other fantasy settings here in the west. This is where the "its not even that original take" just completely fucking loses me. Because, name another game that did it like this. Name another game that was simultaneously an RPG with classic elements, a political drama, world and level design pioneer, AND a space opera! You cant! Not to mention that 12 is a massive scale, fully fleshed out and developed OPEN WORLD that was released in 2006. Two thousand. and fucking six. Its development began in 2001. Which means the devs were drawing up the plans for this shit in THE YEAR 2000 at the LATEST and the mid-late 90s at the EARLIEST. She. was. ahead. of. her. TIME. Skyrim, the iconic mother mary of the fantasy open world genre, wasn't even released until 2011, and the whole "OpEn woRlD omG sO OpEn" trend wasn't even in full swing till the mid 2010s. 12 walked so all those other bitches could run. 12 literally did the damn thing years and years before any one else even thought of it. The critiques are simply factually incorrect.

Like he hits different when he has his brother's armor at the end of the game (spoilers)
Again, another lovely video Jam!
Which were very rare in 1977.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hidden_Fortress
George Lucas took visual techniques right out of jidaigeki film and plopped them right into a galaxy far, far away.
the name "Obi-Wan Kenobi" contains Japanese words for sash/belt and sword.
If you drag Firemane into the water you take less damage from the ultimate :)
I love your voice. Definitely in my top 5 favorite voices lol!
i love your content so much keep it going ❤
I miss Larsa's infinite hi-potion spam from the original game. It was such a cheat!
For me, Ashe is my top Final Fantasy waifu and I feel an underrated character of the franchise
You might already know, but skeletons is weak to healing. So you can spam healing on them to beat them
33:11 I'm actually surprised you didn't make a down bad meme during this scene
Unrelated but what they did to Vossler was NASTY, like... LET MY BARA BEARDED MAN LIVE PEACEFULLY AND MARRIED TO BASCH LIKE AN OLD-FASHIONED OLD MAN YAOI
Oh my god he is like Lord Farquaad lol, I'm never gonna be able to unsee that.
yeah, the hunts can be HARD. I'm glad that you can always come back to them later.
Wow you're really just gonna live laugh like that, and leave before you can love me?
Cold blooded
Lvl 1 all hunts would be a pretty sick run
as a IZJS player, of course you can beat it. when i learned that Zodiac Age has dual classes, it felt wrong and i think its not needed. so i just play single class.
and the classes you get are balanced - so thats good
A friend of mine recommended me your channel literally saying "hey I found a gay that plays Final Fantasy" and I'm here for it.
You can beat Yiazmat in like an hour on 4x speed.
tip..Draw horse boss in water then attack it, he is weak in the water
Star wars a new hope is directly based on a japenese movie named the hidden fortress so full circle
I like Penelo, but her outfit leaves a lot to be desired. I like the top, but the legs are just...pillars? They're akin to the two-legged rocky dino monsters, the one that was on the bridge in the mines. I forget what they're called 😂
But yeah she's cute, I always had a crush on her as a kid.
I dunno i like how simple her costume is and how the colours compliment each other and the WINGS!
I never thought that the Story was Like Star wars. But I Loved it as a Kid.
final hunt? 12 hours? huh .... it took me an hour and a half to do it without a broken setup :V with 1 job each you can definitely do it ^^
Thing is FF12 is nothing like Starwars. where would you put Penelo. C3PO?
I write this only having watched the intro so we'll see how it gets on, I suppose....
if you want a reaaly super challenge try Ashes10 perfect walkthru videos from start to finishI did it was fun as heck.
Wait, isn't Balthier a Leo? I'm pretty sure that's his zodiac sign on final fantasy tactics
Learned so many useless words playing this game and Final Fantasy Tactics.
Man those class choices are painful. Also Ashe's best class is actually Knight and not a mage. Fun playthrough idea. I love 12 and Zodiac Age really makes you plan things a lot more. Gambit system is GOAT
I kinda wanna hear your defense of your claim about Ashe.
@@forcelightningcable9639 her stats and access to abilities with certain espers just make her broken. I thought it was the agreed on most common choice for her. Every other playthrough i see has her as a knight.
Final Fantasy and their Fetish for Belts...you should see Squall and Lulu
I love this game. The Star Wars vibe is nice, and even if it wasn't super original, I think it did a lot to expand what a Final Fantasy game can be. (My opinion did develop over time. I hated this game when it came out lol)
Vaan reminded me of alladin lol
Jammin' on my sac
The Hi Gay jumpscare 😭😂
I'm sorry I've throw my hands whenever penelo pops
Penelo's hair is the best part, its such a cute-chaotic style.
Afaik now Guest spent your own items even though its their default gambit to use potions and the likes
I am from Damascus and because of that I always liked dalmasca
final fantasy doesnt have kissing siblings. and that makes it 100% better
i loveee this game
I wanted both Balthier and Basch to destroy me.
Oh shit everyone in my family are Capricorns! Explains why Christmas is quiet lol 😵💫
And a tipp for you at the end: you can do the trial mode from the main menu whit your current save and get some good loots from the enemies and chests there and they are even better whit the thiefgloves to aprove the stolen goods and the chance to steal them in the first place and the diamantbangle that can give some rare items from chests (extremely powerful for the chests found in the trial mode) whitch can be found in a chest in the room of the first trial 😉
They sure did fuck up Frans feet lol
Woot!
Final Fantasy XII my first Final Fantasy Game Experience. So a Videos involves it, I considered a Subscribed if it's Positive to the game. But if not, Just only comments.
Ich found Penelo allways more relateable than Vaan
Did you say the sound design is bad in this? You can’t be serious
astrology and final fantasy????
Not that far off a regular playthrough of the original 😅 hope this is fun
Am I the only one who doesn’t think this game is like Star Wars??? lol 😂
It's because it's not
I'm fairly sure ProJared ripped the Star Wars comparison asunder in his FF12 video.
Dragging Firemane into the water increases the damage it takes.
Fakk a Cluck 🐔
some say they hate Vaan as the main character, but i hate Penelo as part of the MCs. the only redeeming character was her magic power. but just like vaan, he has no actual purpose.
@@ajdove1823 when u actually have to type THAT much to find little nitpicks to make Balthier and Fran not just be Han and Chewie, i don't know what to tell ya lmfao
but yep, i'm sure the goofy one hyuk
@@ajdove1823 lmao
A challenging no 1 will ever try in (F f 12.) No gambits on. ? Like 👍 if u want to see a video of this challenge . Dislike 👎 if u agree no 1 will do this challenge .
*I ended up writing an essay. TLDR: she ate.*
final fantasy gaymers?? i thought i was only one!
sidebar people who say XII is unoriginal have never played it. this is a running theme in the final fantasy community, where people give reviews of FF games that are unfounded, OR they critique the game OUT of context, i.e. ignoring the time and circumstance that lead to the game being the way it is. also one thing that enrages me is that people pretend as if FF is NOT a series franchise... when reviewing an FF title they act as if the previous installment's reception would have no impact on the next.
prime example, a massive "critique" of FF13 was "its a good game b-b-b-but its closed world and LineeeEEEeEaRRR :(((".
Guns only
Whit mage is Aries? No... it's more of a Virgo than IMO. And Virgo is Monk? I must be missing something.
This a weak challenge. If that 4th would have been weak mode, then i was ready to lock in for some content. But yeh this is not really even a challenge when you think about it. Weak sauce for sure
