Hey guys! In this challenge run video series I try to see if I can beat Final Fantasy X-2 by using the worst classes available to us!
This run has a lot of ups and downs and can't wait to share my experience of this game with everyone!

When I play X-2, I pick my dresspheres based on which girl looks best in the gear (yes I'm gay). Choosing Paine as your Songstress... Cruelty.

Im gay AF, but I usually just stuck with my Dark Knight, Alchemist, and Dark Knight conbo, and wrecked TF out of the game! Trying for that 100% to reunite her with her blonde twink, was too much! I had to play through a 3rd time, for a 0.2% goal! 😹💀😹

I always felt the critique of the plot/tone of the game was unfair, Yuna earned her fun silly times, she saved the gd world-permanently unlike her predecessors-and lost her first love all in one stressful, death defying traumatic road trip.

Unfortunately she didn't really save the world permanently. As we know after this game ends, Sin comes back after only a few more years (being one of the shortest Calms).
I think us as a community flat out not acknowledging the audio drama for having wrecked the game- at least in my fantasy

I too love me some X-2 and think it is unfairly maligned. For one thing, the battle system is a rare "modern" expression of the job system, and a spectacular one at that. It did take me a while to warm up to the story and, erm, style of the game. But honestly, I now find it to be the perfect follow-up to the perhaps too self-serious at times X.
It also helps that I've seen a lot more anime since first playing it and have gotten used to the more, lets say, eyebrow-raising aspects of X-2. The game's characters all basically act like anime characters, just with comparatively stilted animation (though they really did try with the face animations of YRP, I suppose).
The one part that bothers me to this day is the lack of updated character models for everyone except Yuna or Rikku (give me chubby dad-bod Wakka and preggo Lulu lol). It's clear this was a weirdly low-budget follow-up to one of the most successful FF titles.

Agree with pretty much everything here. I think this was released before DLC was commonplace for big games, and I believe it would probably have been more successful as a hefty sized DLC along the lines of Dragon Age: Awakening. First of all, the developers wouldn't have had to pad it with quite so much fluff in the sidequests and minigames, and also I think the expectations of it would have been different and people might have chilled out about it more.
Overall, while the story is weaker than FFX and many of the characters annoying, I find the combat much more interesting and the challenge level much higher than the original. Also, Trainer has some pretty good abilities that can make short work of some otherwise excruciating fights. I think they might vary slightly between characters though, so I hope Yuna's doggo gets the one I'm particularly thinking of.

This game is so dumb and so camp, I freakin' love it lmao. I actually played this before FFX because I didn't really know about the Final Fantasy series. My Stepmom literally saw a commercial of girls transforming on TV and thought "Oh yeah, he'll like that" and she was right. My gay ass ate this up lmao. Since then I have played FFX tho.

Aaaaa I love dressphere challenges! I did a Paine solo run not long ago and it gave me a new-found respect for Songstress lol. Matador's Song gives you 100% physical evasion which is INSANE and makes a huge chunk of the bosses/encounters super easy.
Your meme placement is immaculate. This game always catches way too much hate, and I appreciate you for recognizing that- it has probably my favorite implementation of the ATB system and one of my favorite job systems. Also the opening cutscene had 13 year old me so snatched tbh
They definitely went a bit too hard with the missable things in this game.
Even using a guide isn't always good enough if the guide doesn't go into enough detail... I missed out on the Trainer Dressphere because the guide I was using only told me to make sure I spoke to Kimarhi at certain times... But didn't mention that I needed to pick specific dialogue options as well.
Honestly thats the main failing of this game.
Me and a friend set ourselves to 100% this game, and we only failed because we didn't check the Zanarkand viewsphere one last time.
Then when we found out that we didn't, we didn't have a save going back that far.
It's a good game but one of the worst FF for that whole reason.

Nothing is missable - you are **EXPECTED** to go through on a New Game+ and do all the choices that you didn't pick the first time, the 'choose 1' of the various garment grids, equipment, cutscenes, shop unlocks, etc. that you can only get 1 of per run through.
@@AndreasFleissner I don't mind missing stuff as a consequence of my choices, but in this game you don't miss stuff because of your choices, you miss stuff because of some weird arbitrary requirement that you would have no idea about unless you have a guide in your hand. I'm not a big fan of meta-gaming. This game requires you to do arbitrary things in a specific order, specific time, and there's no way you would know in a blind first playthrough.
Beat the game yesterday and ahhhh the ending made me cry. I really do love this game. Outside of the insane amount of frustrating mislabels it’s a great game. I don’t think any of the characters from 10 had their characters ruined in this game which is nice, and I actually really love the direction Yuna went. The combat is super duper fun and the story felt nice. Just going around the world of Spira seeing how it’s changed and having Yuna do various tasks around the world just sorta living her new life after the calm doing what she wants even if it isn’t always the most important or world changing things.
there was no story XD. it honestly felt half finished. the world ending machina that left seemed like there were one for each aeon since each place the aeons were at all had a tunnel but then we go to the farplane and just beat the one. the story is just a bunch of fetch quests and collectable simulator. the quest that is spent the most time on is the stupid song crap. there is hardly an actual story. get a sphere learn that tidus found something in his timeline then go on a while goose chase trying to find him like an idiot. i mean the dude is dead and yuna cant be that stupid. literally would just take a trip to the far plane to see him again. also imo adding paine was so random. should have just went with lulu instead.
same I have a real soft spot for this game lol the combat was really fun and I liked the dress sphere mechanic but I really did enjoy just seeing what everyone from X was doing after the end of the first game :)

@@sheas8935 not sure how you came to that conclusion. madden games are 100 times worse than any final fantasy game. even lazier series than the constant COD games. its a constant copy and paste with extremely minor changes. at least COD has new maps guns and every now and then movement changes. sorry but i actually feel offended that you suggested such utter shit based on the fact that i said the game has no story. it doesnt. still liked the game but not nearly as much as i did 10.
Great video, but I've got some thoughts
1. Songstress' singing buffs can stack to comedic effect
2. There are accessories and Garment Grids later in the game that give you access to better abilities
3. These Dress spheres are definitely awful
This is my kind of video. When I was a kid I just played this and didn't think much of it in terms of strategy. A year ago did another run and noticed the songstress was REALLY helpful early-mid game, you can "cheese" a lot of enemies and even some stronger ones, especially in the monster cups. Really fun to watch.
Paine as a dancer is just pure awkward comedy. I never would've noticed :D
Especially since she's all about maintaining her cool aloof persona the rest of the time. And with just enough of an Elvis impersonation to really do my head in. Oof 😂

Very well crafted video: once more it confirms that the amount of numbers mean nothing on the web, it's the quality of it that counts.
FFX-2 International is actually the best old-school ATB FF game in relation to gameplay, available content and variety, it is the FF5 of the 6th generation, offering an improvement on all the fundamentals the class-based FF games are known for.
It is pretty much what the 3rd world in Final Fantasy 5 would be if it game a game by itself -that being a game world where there is a lot hidden and you have to find it yourself to get juicy bonuses and addictional content.
It corrects anything wrong FFX had in relation to gameplay, because as shown in this video, EVERYTHING has to potential to become "good" - another instance is Blue Bullet\Magic in X-2 is what FFX Blue Magic should have been, ever accessible once obtained and extremely versatile for any situation.
Fans accused it of recycling content, but they ignore that there is so much more asset content by virtue of the Dresspheres alone, 3 x 19 = 57 different costumes for the main characters alone!
Bashed upon for daring to be something fresh... compared to FFX, it is much more approachable too, FFX is a SLOG because of how slow it starts and how unskippable cutscenes are, X-2 was released only 3 years after FFX but the QOLs are so massive one has to be only a blind fool to devalue such a quality masterpiece because "durrr different feelings durrr".
The OST is top-tier and tries to give the game more unicity, a clear detachament that is thematic, because this game is an aftermath to what was Eons (eh) of retrograde cultists forcing a whole world to DIE USELESSLY in the name of Status Quo... it would be foolish to have a sequel to such an ending where everything stays the same, after so many repressive years, people will quickly want to vent and express themselves freely (in real life this has to have some limits of course, but in a game everything it's fine)
The fact that it offers New-Game plus is a massive bonus too, because one gains enough experience that he can replay it and experiment numerous types of different gameplay-styles and challenges very fast, like "Magic Only", "LV1\2\3" only and so on.
When it is about videogames, the priority order for developers should be like this:
gameplay\structure > incentives for replayablility\variables > available MEANINGFUL interactive content > OST > interaction among characters > graphic STYLE that always looks good > plot
Even an excellent plot is meaningless in a game if the game does not place what I listed on the top of it.
If you keep doing FFX-2 challenges it would give you a strong niche, maybe even doing "can you beat" challenges of other JRPGs that have very strong fundamentals but are lesser known... maybe a "can you beat" challenge of some FF mod, like FFVI Brave New World 2.1?
So glad I stumbled upon this video! Love your sense of humour. I always thought people were far too harsh on what is actually quite a fun game with a good battle system. Its been cool to see ffx-2 have a sort of resurgence.

The Gunner is one of the best jobs in the game. Can decimate entire areas Scatterburst. Cheap Shot can hit Trema for loads of damage.
Was looking for such a comment. Absolutely agree, the gunner is a glasscannon, but also one of the best damage dealers in the game with very high dps.

This was a really cool video, thank you so much for making it! I love FFX-2, it actually was my first Final Fantasy game and it is in my top 3 (along with FFX and FFXII). I love Yuna's character growth and I enjoy their silly little shenanigans, it makes me happy and it heals my inner young adult :) I'll never get tired of this game haha
I just tried 100% it in a single playthrough, shit's HARD. I'm at 70h ish hours and still not done yet, but I'm in chapter 5 grinding away some stuff in the desert haha

I can't believe this didn't pop up on my feed immediately! So happy to see you playing and talking about X-2! :D One of my favorite games of all time, as the battle system is very unique and fun to play with, the dress spheres/sphere maps were always super interesting to try out new combos etc. (Btw, I had a songstress in my team almost every playthrough, how dare you say it's the worst class :P)
I'm also personally a fan of the sillier aspect of the game, as even though it's nothing like FFX, it's not *supposed* to be. The story is a little fluffy and wonky at times, but this game is full of so much charm that I think it's a Final Fantasy anyone could pick up and enjoy, while simultaneously providing enough of a typical Final Fantasy experience that long-time fans can still find it familiar.
Anyway, can't wait to watch the rest of the series, you rule!

I just by chance saw this video and yes, it bring so much memories. I pre-ordered this game and I was soo hyped! I never understood the critics when it came out. Yes, it is just fun and light hearted after the heavy things in X-1 but I adored it because of that. It's the calm and Yuna is enjoying life❤ Fighting systems also must be one of the best in FF (my opinion).

You can actually use Gippal if you capture him vía Colosseum I believe, maybe in a future run?
Heavily disagree that Trigger Happy is the only good Gunner skill. With a decent accessory loadout, Cheap Shot is very useful as it ignores defense. Seriously, you can even beat the likes of Trema with that. And if you raise your luck with Rabite's Foot, or Key to Success, it will also critical.
Gunner only comes in handy when you master it. I love these videos btw

Really curious, I read Songstress is one of the strongest Dressphere because of their utility, just not for offense, and Gunner the best in the game because of Trigger Happy enabling the only stall that actually works on the opponent. Though, that was before the re-release...

YAAAAS A NEW CHALLENGE SERIES
Ahhhhh Final Fantasy X-2 it's been a bit since i last played this i gotta admit your a bit crazy using the worst dressphere's only but i gotta admit i've been enjoying watching you surprise me so far (I've seen the first two parts so far).
One thing i might as well mention and i imagine you've already beaten the game at this point is that the stat buffs from sing etc... i.e the numbered ones can be boosted to 10 although for all i know Sing could actually set them to the max possible boost anyway as i said it's been a bit it's also the same with debuffs too just something to think about whenever.
Yes I had no idea while I was playing! Wish the game would make it clear but oh well :)

Yeah it would be really handy shame that the old status buffs like Protect and Shell can't be stacked except on FFIV Complete Collection and even that might just be on The After Years part of it
I'm still honestly mad that the best combat system in any final fantasy... is in this game.
This game would not have been as fun if it didn't have an absolutely bustedly fun job and fighting system.

Initial Thoughts: I like the pros of “Dances, Nice Dress, and Woof Woof”, Yuna’s Lofi era is beautiful, and lastly, Squidward Tentacles going “Oh no he’s hotttt.”

I never realized that Trainer was in it for one of the worst Dressspheres in the game. Cuz my main party when I played this game for the first time was Trainer Yuna, Alchemist Rikku and Lady Luck Paine

I don't get why people think the Songstress is bad. It's vital in the beginning and stays useful in the end. In the beginning it's a constant source of Sleep, Stop, Blind, and Silence. Later on you don't need those things anymore but you can still use Evasion + 10 and the dance that makes all attacks critical. I was under-leveled because I turn off random encounters sometimes, but I was still beating monsters I'm not supposed to.
