They say there is no algorithm, only audience's preferences, but then when I go to search for anything using the search feature, my results are absolutely drowned out by 'For you' and 'People also watched' stuff, and hardly any of what I actually searched for. How can they justify saying this in this light?
#1 no one says there’s no algorithm. #2 in these videos, 99% of the time they are referring to the recommendation algorithms, ie. browse and suggested - not search. Each traffic source has its own algorithm. Most watched traffic comes from browse and suggested - the content UA-cam recommends to viewers based on their watch history.
UA-camrs fool us no one knows UA-cam's algorithm i am getting 400 -500 views with viewed ratio of 80+ 😡 this mean my content is good but youtube just hate new channels and demotivate small channels
If it's just about video quality, why would MrBeast be able to record a 3 second video of him farting and get over a million views easily while I have to cure cancer, end world hunger and start world peace for 10k views?
It's not just about video quality. It's about video INTEREST. Mr. Beast can do stuff like that because people want to see what Mr. Beast does because he's rich and famous. It's the same as Kim Kardashian... she's got an IQ lower than her age but people care what she does because she's famous and has a nice butt or something. If Mr. Beast ONLY did stupid stuff, everyone would stop watching. But if he does something stupid every now and then, people are like "LOL what's he up to?" - so, no, it's not about video quality, it's about video interest. You get rich and famous by making quality... and then you can do the odd low quality video.
'Whatever you do: Believe it, even if you don't believe. Play the game of belief. That is sheer power. And it will happen' (Sir Anthony Hopkins) Persevere and analyze what you've done so far, that's the most important thing.
to be fair, I have noticed a lot more the algorithm pushing new fellow smaller channels on me, either based upon what I watch or what I upload more frequently. 99% of time I pass it as doesn't interest me for whatever reason but good to see it at work. I also experienced this with my channel
I click on each one, like, full watch- to encourage other small creators just as I would want to be encouraged. You might want to consider being generous with your attention.
I had the same question! Why is 1K the benchmark to hurdle if it’s not important. I would agree that people just don’t make the effort to subscribe anymore. They’re swiping and consuming content at a remarkable pace!
I would assume it’s bc you can’t monetize just anyone and everyone. I look at that requirement the same way I look at how you fill out a job application. You have to meet the company’s requirements before they hire you on and start paying you.
@@wetrick182 this, and also to help combat botting the required watch hours and just getting to make money. Sure someone could get half a dozen phones and play their videos on them 24/7 but unless they pay for bot subscribers they aren't gonna get 1k subs
@@TrueTributes13 😁😁 Good sense of humour. I like it. UA-cam can make a person obsessive. No matter what I do, I am just not winning. I now upload when I have a video ready. It it is 2 days or 3 days. Whatever. I am not going to make myself sick fighting against the unknown I clearly have no control over.
@@SonetLandman that is true, youtube can definitely do that, i checked out your channel, you make some very very good and super interesting top quality content🙌
The problem with the suggestion of "Go into the audience tab and see what your viewers are also watching" isn't available to small channels that are getting less than say 25,000 views per week. A small channel with 100 subs and releasing two per week that's getting 500-1000 views on each will be told in that tab, "Not enough eligible data to show this report." You see this with UA-cam staff and even Google Search staff on Twitter that they make these recommendations to "small creators" and it doesn't apply because the data they are talking about just isn't there because they are too small.
Stop telling new channels that subscribers don't matter when UA-cam literally makes them a requirement of the partnership program, and constantly deletes them. You can AFFORD to not give your subscription, but what a raging hypocrite to not pass on that blessing for anyone else! Totally disgusted with a comment like that. Talk about slamming the door shut on others!
That was a hugely disappointing comment, especially coming from someone who literally teaches UA-camrs what they need to do to get more subscribers. I subscribe to new channels regularly and try to watch the entire video, unless they have a huge intro/outro, which I usually skip. It takes time and effort to run a UA-cam channel and not appreciating what the creator did to provide this education/entertainment borders on rude. Should we unsubscribe from this channel, @VidIQ?
Super small channel here, I don't understand why youtube keeps on removing my LEGIT subs. I counted all my subs in YT Studio and the total should be around 300+ but on my channel is just 265. Each time I gain sub, YT removes some of them 💔. How can a tiny channel like me grow with that kind of system? It Hurts 💔 and feels like quitting 😢.
I’m not buying the algorithm crap and I’ll explain why. My other channel that I have just to watch videos gets recommended a ton of cancer videos and I don’t know why. I never click them and they creep me out yet I get them all the time.. I just recently played a game that was released the day of which I recorded and edited that night. It hit 100 views within a hour, I went to sleep and UA-cam did some weird stuff and deleted all the views I guess I would have had and I was suddenly down to 14… I saw my returning subs comments and likes to the video which didn’t match what UA-cam was telling me was my view count. I then went onto UA-cam not logged in, searched the game I played, clicked uploaded within 24 hours and guess what.. videos from months ago of people playing the demo of the game were recommended over me and I didn’t find my video until I scrolled way down.. So yeah I don’t buy it anymore.
I agree l know UA-cam deleted subs I witnessed them doing it. I post a video and watch the sub rate go up and then the next day it goes back down and sometimes below what I had. It's controlled.
@@shepherdwarrior777 Yeah that’s another one I’ve noticed. December and January I was gaining 50 plus subs per video.. February until now I never moved from 1,030 subs until this month where I finally got to 1,080. They definitely do some fishy stuff.
@@samurai_JD55it took me over a month to get 5 subs to get to the 1000 mark. I moved up one, down 2, up 3, down 2. I kid you not. Sitting on 1009 now for weeks.
for me i got me a monetized youtube channel with over 20k from viral npc marketplace (it is now 30K) and im now earning like an old youtuber haha. good video btw
Yes. I get fed art channels that it is coming out of my ears just because I watch one art channel. I am not an artist. I like animals, nature my garden etc.
I would say that most of the video recommendations seem plausible to me, but then some of the others are in the "what were you thinking?" category. I have recently started seeing a lot of videos that I've already watched showing up in my feed, and I can't figure out why. I've checked and they aren't still in my "Watch Later" folder.
I don't disagree with any of Rob's commentary and really want to take this guy's advice in good faith. However, the recent Google search algorithm leak has certainly cast some doubt over the veracity of official lines taken by UA-cam. I'm sadly now much less convinced that all creators are treated the same, which is openly not true anyway considering only a fraction of creators have access to the test and compare feature.
It's a controlled algorithm don't let them deceive you. Just the creator viewer ratio alone tells you it's controlled. I have seen some pretty unimpressive videos get a lot of views.
@@shepherdwarrior777oh don't get me started on this 😡 Channels where every video makes your stomach turn as the camera is just swung from side to side all the time and the people watch and compliment the wonderful work.
@@SonetLandman I call those Dramamine channels. You have to take a dose of Dramamine to watch their videos. I would also like to add those where the camera shakes constantly and the creator doesn't even try to stabilize it. 🤢But according to the comments, their videos are always awesome. 🙄
I realized over the last week another quirk of the algorithm. A video from a month ago of mine (not this account) has over 125k views and is getting 2k to 3k impressions a day, but the video I released last Monday is only getting about 200-300 even though it has a 6.8% ctr and average view duration of over 8 minutes of the 20min video. Last months has a 3% on over 2.5M impressions for comparison. The algorithm is more likely to push what it knows people will watch and keep trying to find more people to watch it, than it will something that's newer and untested. Oh well. I'm super proud of the video I made last week and that's all the motivation I need to keep making more until I hit another that goes nuclear. Make things to make them, not for the numbers and the success will follow. I have more ideas than time, which is now a motivation to do more and wallow less!
I believe UA-cam should hide view counts in the browse feature. It would promote more organic exploration and help users find hidden gems without being swayed by numbers. Quality content deserves a chance to shine!
No good word for this Todd. Everything yt did is a mess and just for supporting the biggest and the best, and once it was wide and everyone could watch everyone. Those guys have destroyed it and - no you can not convince me. We are not just interested in competing against each other, we want to have fun together making good videos. Today's yt algorythm is just about bla, bla, bla talking quickly, without pause and spamming words in the face of the audience. Wow, what a great job he did. We can really see how all yt watchers get hypnotized by us content creators binding them on this platforms so the handful can get the money.
To subscribe to a channel and not watch the channel's content is like ordering a pizza, taking a small bite, and putting the rest in the fridge never to be eaten. 🙂
I WOULD GIVE IT A SHOT... A month ago, I actively started running a channel and encountered a situation that led me to a funny thought! Each uploaded video, on average, adds one subscriber. I asked myself, "Imagine, to get 1000 subscribers, you need to shoot and edit 1000 videos! Are you ready for this? Maybe you want 1,000,000 subscribers? The domino effect doesn't exist; how dedicated are you to what you're doing?" It's a terrifying thought, but at the same time, it's so simple and answers the question, "Do I really want to do this, or am I just hoping for luck?" What’s your answer to this question? Are you ready to make 1,000,000 videos for 1,000,000 subscribers?
Most hope for luck. I believe that if you don't make it in the first year you will always be a struggling channel. The 4000 watch hours was brought in for a reason and doing an excellent job in achieving just that. UA-cam are not interested in the 'first year failure' channels. I did not get my code in time due to a collapsed postal service (3000 hours). UA-cam stopped the super thanks and also stopped playing ads on my channel. After receiving the code I manually opened up super thanks but as I was not monetised on ads I cannot activate that and since then UA-cam has stopped playing any ads on my videos and it has harmed my channel. Too many glitches like this in this platform in my opinion.
So someone please explain me this. I opened my channel last week and published 3shorts so far. Here's what happened : 1st short : published last Thursday, started receiving impressions after 6 hours from publishing, as it often happens, and was going great. In the first three hours almost 15000 impressions and almost 11000 views. Then, for no reason at all, impressions almost stopped, in the following 4 days it merely received a little more than one thousand, and at the moment there's no one increase at all. 2nd short: published the day after, after verifying the channel, for the first 9 hours after publishing nothing happened, then impressions started, but at a much lower rate. After three days it's about 1500, with less then 500 views, because the video in in English and it has been shown mainly in Italy (where I reside) and France instead of the US as the first one was. 3rd short: published about 20 hours ago, totally shadowbanned, one single impression since publishing, and it was in my other channel where I saw it. So basically no one else except myself saw it. So how does this goddamn algorithm work once and for all?
Nobody knows and the algorithm really does not work. It does more harm than good. I just think UA-cam does not really want anymore channels on its platform. It is saturated.
He said that the algorithm doesn’t have bias and yet you have to have enough data for the “other channels your viewers watch” data to appear otherwise it just says “not enough data” that in and of itself is a bias towards creators getting enough views. Whether or not it’s 100% accurate everybody should have access to those recommendations if not then we are at a disadvantage compared to slightly larger channels
Changing the thumbnail works! One video with a basic thumbnail had a clickthrough rate of 1.8%, 1.6k impressions and 46 views and over a month after changing the thumbnail to a more well edited thumbnail, it has a 4.5% clickthrough rate, 2.8k impressions and 167 views. The title starts with "DALL-E 3 AI generated Harpy Eagle animal fusions from hybridzoo" Still never gonna be making me any money, but more views are always nice and I mostly generate those pictures for my website, so the 2 videos (Short and regular) are just extra.
Hey 👋. I'm currently on 9 subscribers, but by what i presume is thanks to what I learned in your videos I have gotten a comment saying that i am underated. The feeling that those comments give you are beyond anything else and have encouraged me to tell small creators like myself that they're underrated and a great UA-camr just to make their day just as it made mine. I am yet to have a hate comment as my channel is fairly new, and i haven't had too many viewers to leave comments like that. I can't imagine how much a hate comment can affect someone's day in such an opposite way, but if this comment can teach you something, it is too leave something positive on a small UA-camr's channel, it takes 10 seconds and could change someones whole day! Anyway, great vid as always VidIQ
This thumbnail theory makes no sense. I watch a few channels that have no thumbnail design and they get thousands of views. Some others just add a title to the video and get thousands of views. I think I will start experimenting with TikTok and see if the algorithm is less controlled over there and if it is, I will quit UA-cam altogether.
My question is why some of my videos will only get like 100-200 impressions, but then others will get 10,000+ impressions. The videos that get a lot of impressions always do relatively well, have a decent CTR, and lots of likes and comments. So the audience is enjoying the content they see and even interacting with it. So how can I ensure that my videos get a lot of impressions consistently?
Wow. This actually changes quite alot for myself. I forgot about the intro form and most people will have it muted. Makes sense now with more hooks, and capture engagement. Interesting for real. Good luck to all content creators out there
The algorithm should recommend videos mostly to people who already are interested in that topic. I don’t mind my videos going out to others, but my videos are niche and there is still a large audience. Some other similar creators have hundreds of thousands, if not millions of subscribers and views. I’m just trying to get a few thousand for now and grow. I don’t necessarily need my videos getting recommended to people whose search/watch history isn’t relevant to what I’m producing. While skipping the millions who would be interested. UA-cam should add a section for creators to straight up tell UA-cam the intended target audience instead of UA-cam trying to guess.
It's not so much UA-cam hate our channel that concerns me, it's there is no clear path to reaching my audience. All these analytics and matrics doesn't tell me how do I reach my audience of space enthusiasts and how can I adopt my content to what they like to watch. Yes I know there are tips but there's nothing on the UA-cam studio where we can indicate "these are my target audience so what do you recommend"?
If your video gets 1 view it should get a thousand views just based on the sure volume of users unless it's a controlled algorithm if not straight up censorship for some.
9:09 Rob saying he doesn’t subscribe he just allows the algorithm to gift him the type of content he likes to watch. I think this is the case with a lot of consumers now, but that makes me wonder if the 1k subscriber threshold should still be a thing in 2024
@@SonetLandman I got my hours, just need a handful more subs lol - however in my experience, just one video popping off will get you the hours required
@@sportsthink you are quite right, but the timing of that popping off video must be right. Mine wasn't. Came too early. So when I did not make my 1000 subs in a year, that video became a curse. 😞. Now UA-cam is not giving me another one.
Thank you for this video. Chasing the algorythem magic bullet is the same as chasing a 'get rich quick' dream. Learning how to make videos that people want will always be king. Make these and your audience will develop. Then you'll see a natural growth of your channel. This is the age old principal behind starting a new business. Make what people want to buy and you'll find success. Keep on improving and growing and make a note of where the wins and fails are. Happy creating 😃😃😎😎
I feel like the recommended videos are not things i would search for or watch... and that makes me not click. Could bad recommendations be punishing smaller creators because they are being pushed to someone who isnt realy interested?
The Audience tab isn't working for me. Ninety percent of my subscribers watch electrocution and death penalty videos, but I don't enjoy making those types of videos anymore. As a result, my old subscribers aren't watching my new horror content.
Small channels should get equal visibility as the big ones but I guess they just make more money from the big ones. I am suspicious that changing the thumbnail / title makes any difference. I have changed mine many times, not noticed any difference, two weeks, 6 months or years down the line, not even the slightest change from 0 views for the last 28 days.
How people respond is the difference. If there’s no change in response, then the change of thumbnail didn’t move your potential audience to being any more likely to click. It could be a DOA topic that no one is interested in.
So far my small channel journey has been really good! I can see UA-cam is trying to show people my content, so when it doesn't blow up I can clearly tell that it is my thumbnail & title that need work... As for videos itself I noticed that the videos I was excited about and did my own thing worked the best so that has been really rewarding! I guess I will listen to my intuition & do what I am excited about!!! quite refreshing tbh!
Actually, the algorithm did not hate our small channels, it did suggested our contents constantly, but it is the audience themselves who doesn't really care to watch our contents, I know because the YT studio analytics shows it. Audience watch what they want to watch, I won't go into details. I know what they really like to see. Facts.
Very insightful! I will say that it’s disheartening to hear that viewers could be relying on UA-cam to suggest videos rather than subscribing. As a small channel, that makes monetization requirements feel more difficult to achieve. That said, I’ll keep creating!
Tip: dislikes kill your video. Got one short with a single dislike. It's dead with 4 views. A similar video of equal quality has 169 views. Either that or it's bad luck. I'll reupload it because it did NOT get placed in people's shorts feeds (6 times) while the other got placed in there 705 times for 169 views. The low view video got double the watch/swipe rate, yet was abandoned by the audience. If you happen to not get impressions, then you get no views. If you get a billion impressions, you get a million views on even a terrible video.
I had no success with my channel for a long time. Then I uploaded this one video in which I make the sun explode. That changed everything, because in no time at all I suddenly had more than a thousand subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time. One problem is that this one video still accounts for over 90 percent of all views and most of the other videos are ignored.
You've helped out a lot and with your advice my views are consistently growing, I've learned to grab attention early and keep my viewers watching thank you so much for your help!!! Almost 100 SUBS!!!
updating thumbnail and packaging they say it doesn't trigger the algorithm, just viewers react differently - well surely that is one and the same thing - by being seen (more impressions) its the possibility of more views - Tod said no, but then he politician type answer said yes it does! talk about confusing double speak! it's all very well and good to say subs don't mean nothing - if that was the case, why are there numbers attributed to certain goals - monetisation, streaming allowed, etc. so miniscule channels hear this from huge channels - such as yourself or smaller. and it sends out completely the mixed message. constantly hearing bigger channels sayings subs don't matter - its alright for you, you got your hype vanity metric... if subs don't matter what is the obsession with trying to beat another channel to subs! for fun you say? hmm tod said about subscribers, and their watch habits - so it does tell YT things, so therefore it is a useful metric? otherwise why would they/we be able to track that habit of sub and watcher. if subs don't count! i sub to channels so i can see what their next vid is, i can also find them again, because why trust an algorithm to serve you, you could miss a loads from a creator that it wont serve you - i found that out, which is why i sub. if this vanity metric means naff all, why is there such hype at get 100k and beyond with fancy play buttons and etc. watching things that YT recommends to me, is the fastest way to doom scrolling. and loosing days at a time - that's not healthy either. not all viewers are created equal.. if subscriptions don't matter why is it linked to so much access AND success?. as a viewer of the last 13 years my habit is to watch and go, leave no comments and no likes - and many people are like that. i find a lot of my viewers do same, partly cos they just want to watch, and partly because they do not log in to YT so cant like or comment... interaction as you like to say. but the view is still super valid and important. sorry for the long message, i know i am talking to the void, as i rarely get a response to my ramblings! just sometimes feel confused about the messaging. but i can appreciate how you bring the message. 😢😢🥺🥺😢
As a small creator just starting out and finding my niche and learning how to create value for people - I'm actually really surprised at how well the Algorithm is treating me while I'm still such a small channel. I've only been doing this for a month, I feel like I'm learning something new with every video I do, it's really a journey in discovering what people want and how to provide that, the analytics tool is so powerful.
The algorithm isn't "out to get me" per say. BUT it is completely ignorant. I am an automotive content creator and FINALLY UA-cam suggested one of my videos to ACTUALL content that applies to my content. BAM I got my first 1k views in 24hrs video and 20 likes and good viewer retention. It was an introduction video to a new project. Then the next video with actual work being done on the well-liked and viewed project comes out and the "algorithm" suggests my content to nature video's? and gangland video's? and it takes a week to get 50 views? So why didn't the algorithm learn from the last video that did well, who to show my new content to? Why didn't it just expand on the past success to see if it had found my audience? Everything VidIq says is true on what to do, but my CTR and watch time is always low when they show my stuff to the WRONG AUDIENCE. But when they show it and suggest it to the correct audience my CTR and watch time are GREAT! So how long does it take for the algorithm to get its head out of its @*$ to actually learn my audience? I'm at 90 videos' all doing the same niche and 1 out of 20 videos gets shown to sort of the right niche and the rest get shown to the opposite audience that could care less. Kind of like showing beef slaughterhouse videos to vegans. How would the CTR and watch time be for that? Could be an award-winning video but have 10 views because the algorithm is an idiot and didn't show it to meat eaters. Just saying I have NO IDEA if my videos are good based on analytics because the data is absolutely skewed showing my stuff to the wrong audience. If I word for word search for my video or channel name, it's WAY down the list after a bunch of crap I didn't search or ask for. Answer that one for me Todd and @VidIQ. Thanx for reading my long rant. Good luck to all us misunderstood wanna be UA-camrs.
You're exactly right. If you fill out all the info before posting the video UA-cam should know who to show your videos to but it doesn't work because it's all a gimmick If your video gets 1 view it should get a thousand views just based on the sure volume of users unless it's a controlled algorithm if not straight up censorship for some.
That is the strategy. They sub, is present for a week or 2 and then disappear thinking that you will be watching their videos still. My strategy is: I'll give each person that commented on one of my videos, a full view, (unless it is 2 to 3 hour videos) a thumbs up and a comment. It is a 2 way street. And I know that a lot do not watch my videos in full. A lot.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it! This or any other strategy won't work on gaming-specific channels. This may only work if you do reviews or a how-to-cook video, but definitely not with gaming channels. I think that Vidiq should focus more on this because we gamers are always left out of harm's way 🤬🤬
As a viewer and creator for VidIQ ur advice or information is a nice addition But also videos like these are repetitive sometimes.. we get the same topics but lil difference that lead to the same result Can we dial it back when it comes to vids like these?
Omg, this is craaaazzzy! I’m new to vlogging and I think I’ve only JUST accomplished putting together a decent intro. After 60 videos! I’m definitely not convinced that the algo hates me. I understand I have ALLOOOOT of work to do in order to improve and I’m looking forward to it 😊
8:24 THIS in particular, is one of the reasons my other YT channel has subs but a lot of them aren't current. This goes back at least 14 years ago when I made content that used to be borderline-viral, but I didn't know about it all that much.. far less then, than I do from the past few years. *What I've suggested in the past is that the devs at UA-cam implement a policy similar to how watchtime works, except with subs. If those subs aren't watching any of your content in say a given 12 month period, they're auto-unsubbed from the channel.* This would give a clearer definition of who is watching and for how long, because not knowing puts the creator right behind the 8-ball.
Sometimes I see a video from a channel I haven't watched for a long time and notice I am no longer subscribed which leads me to think UA-cam has unsubbed me without my knowledge because often they are channels that are still relevant to me. Do you know why this may be happening?
Learning that YT sees the effects of thumb/title changes on their end in seconds is gold. I would have thought it was at least hours, if not days - but with this piece of info you know if you're not getting the response you anticipate, change it.
What other channels my audience is watching would be a game changer.....if only I could see it! This is whats so frustrating for smaller channels. The "Tools" seem to trickle in and you get more as your subscriber count increases. This I believe is where the "Im being ignored because I am a smaller channel!" thought process comes into play. Just one example.
It's pretty laughable that in one breath Todd says that they don't favour big channels and in the next breath he says small channels should be using the "What your audience watches" data... Except for small channels with only a couple hundred subs and getting a few hundred views per video, they literally don't show you any data. It was a SMH moment for sure.
The views I get are massively luck based. I make a regular video and a short each time to get more views. In one case (animals made out of apples), the regular video version got 49 views while the short got 169 views (3.4 times difference in favor of short). In another case (Great Horned Owl hybrid animals), the regular video got 108 views while the short only got 4 views (27 times difference in favor or regular video). I'm considering just reuploading that short because after if bombs, you generally don't get another chance. I even put some more effort into it to make it smoother by making a giant screenshot of my website and scrolling through that rather than scroll through my website manually, which took longer and lagged sometimes on my decade old laptop, but all for 4 lousy views, 0 likes and a dislike. Meanwhile others have made similar videos and gotten millions of views. I guess by tricking people into thinking those animals really exist.
I’m so extremely grateful with this amazing help I’m getting from UA-cam angels! Then two things make my audience” click and watch” thank you for the guide for me been a very small creator. I’ve been following you guys bc I learn something new everyday 🙏♥️🙏
I hate to say this, but as an eh UA-camr who just only got back into Youtubing recently, I learned a brand new thing that comes with experience -- viral video takeoff. Back when i had 300 subs, I had a short video gain 100K views but it drew the wrong audience from a similar niche. Fast forward 2024, I noticed it took a while until i finally got a viral video (potentially) once again. UA-cam is a competitive league. To really get going, you have to deliver a package so interesting that it'll blow your competition out of the water. Don't forget, you are competing against hundreds, if not thousands who are doing nearly the exact thing you do. Be creative, be unique. Give a reason why your viewers should be clicking back on your content and you are one step closer to reaching that snowball effect. Then social-proofing and more exposure works from there. You'll get bigger, if you expose yourself out more. Its like handing out artwork or a sample music album to passers nearby. You gotta keep at it, not just one at one location. Collaborate with producers from a podcast station, catch the attention of the bigger UA-cam stars. Be the talk about in town, and you'll catch onto something nice. Cheers!
Thanks Vidiq! ❤ Hope yu all are well. My question: when is visible the graphic where we can see when is the best time to upload a video? Thanks in advance! ❤ @StartProChannel
Can we actually trust anything he says though? There has been a recent leak from Google where up to 14k items that are checked when deciding where to rank a website in the algo have been shown. What was also seemingly shown was that most of what Google had been Telling SEO's over the years had been misleading at best and an outright lie at worst..
It's false hope to keep you watching and plugging along. There isn't enough money to make everyone successful. If youtube gatekeepers like you they will push your videos. That's the truth they will never admit.
I have a question related to "UA-cam hating me." Why do some of my subscribers, with notifications enabled, not see our released videos? My subscribers are telling YT they want to see our content, yet they don't get to see it unless they go to our channel and click on it. Seems like the algorithm isn't working then.
Creators won't be competing fairly against each other for as long as a view count will be displayed. Human psychology makes it so that people are to lazy to evaluated things and come up with their own decisions, so they default into using the mass to dictate where to allocate their time or attention. In the mind of the viewers, big amounts of views = credibility that the content is good, but this is a false assumption. The reality is that the view count is probably as impactful as the title and thumbnail, and as long as it's displayed, bigger channel will have that unfair advantage. Even removing it from 'before' clicking wouldn't be enough, because then people would click on videos, see it has very little views, and click away even faster than now, looking for one that had more traffic.
I hate when I just want to look at a thumbnail and the video starts playing already. I guess changing to 4G prevents videos from being autoplayed (check your settings!), but that's a hassle.
Stay creating guys, even if you're feeling discouraged it's best to just produce content that you, yourself, would watch and enjoy. Patience is a virtue even if you feel like it's going nowhere ❤
You don't/can't. One woman's beginner channel saved a bird and got 34k views. I save birds all the time and get 34 views. Let that make sense. All the algorithm had to do was to serve one of my videos to her 34K viewers. My guess is, it didn't. Apparently that is rocket science.
Holy Moly I needed this video! I released some music 15 hours ago and it's only gotten 8 views and 18 impressions, which is far lower than the 103 and 9,045 on my other piece of music. I'll try these strategies and some others from your videos then come back and update this with the results. Thanks again for some great tips!

They say there is no algorithm, only audience's preferences, but then when I go to search for anything using the search feature, my results are absolutely drowned out by 'For you' and 'People also watched' stuff, and hardly any of what I actually searched for. How can they justify saying this in this light?
Hmm true .. tell us you tube you are hiding something
Ya but we don't know the source code

So true. UA-cam is a messed up platform that promotes those that go along with it's woke agenda. Have you put in your pronouns yet!? Geez!

If the subscriber count isn't such a big deal, why then is UA-cam big on subscriber count as a prerequisite for getting monetized?
I had the same question! Why is 1K the benchmark to hurdle if it’s not important. I would agree that people just don’t make the effort to subscribe anymore. They’re swiping and consuming content at a remarkable pace!
Idk but I know I seen 1k subs channels are getting killer views and making money 💰 just by 1k
My thoughts exactly.

The problem with the suggestion of "Go into the audience tab and see what your viewers are also watching" isn't available to small channels that are getting less than say 25,000 views per week.
A small channel with 100 subs and releasing two per week that's getting 500-1000 views on each will be told in that tab, "Not enough eligible data to show this report."
You see this with UA-cam staff and even Google Search staff on Twitter that they make these recommendations to "small creators" and it doesn't apply because the data they are talking about just isn't there because they are too small.
I have a lot of viewers and a small channel and i still don't get recommended what my audience watches

That's true it all matters

Wow

The domino effect doesn't exist; how dedicated are you to what you're doing?" It's a terrifying thought, but at the same time, it's so simple and answers the question, "Do I really want to do this, or am I just hoping for luck?"
What’s your answer to this question?
Here's what happened :
1st short : published last Thursday, started receiving impressions after 6 hours from publishing, as it often happens, and was going great.
Lucky you!
Very much so I had a video had 39 views in for 3 days changed thumbnail and it's at 925 .

I have started considering this too.
You can't. The algorithm is random.
Wow. This actually changes quite alot for myself. I forgot about the intro form and most people will have it muted. Makes sense now with more hooks, and capture engagement. Interesting for real. Good luck to all content creators out there
Just be consistent in your videos. Good luck everyone. We can do this!❤
Why are UA-camrs "competing" for the attention of established subscribers -_-
It's why big creators are ditching UA-cam for tiktok
I wanna let people and Vidiq know, I just got a/b thumbnail texting last week, so it should be rolling out to everyone now! :)

How people respond is the difference. If there’s no change in response, then the change of thumbnail didn’t move your potential audience to being any more likely to click. It could be a DOA topic that no one is interested in.
Stay strong! Just went I was about to give up, I finally started seeing results. Lesson learned: packaging, packaging, packaging
Past two days my shorts are not getting view and it’s not going to feed too, why is this happening? I have no idea about it please anyone help me .
Thank you. I see that clearly on my channel and left a comment saying exactly this a bit higher up.
I’m almost at 1k subscribers thank you guys!
Well my shorts have a low swipe away rate but still flatline. Sounds like the algorithm something against me.

updating thumbnail and packaging they say it doesn't trigger the algorithm, just viewers react differently - well surely that is one and the same thing - by being seen (more impressions) its the possibility of more views - Tod said no, but then he politician type answer said yes it does! talk about confusing double speak!
it's all very well and good to say subs don't mean nothing - if that was the case, why are there numbers attributed to certain goals - monetisation, streaming allowed, etc.
so miniscule channels hear this from huge channels - such as yourself or smaller. and it sends out completely the mixed message.
constantly hearing bigger channels sayings subs don't matter - its alright for you, you got your hype vanity metric... if subs don't matter what is the obsession with trying to beat another channel to subs! for fun you say? hmm
tod said about subscribers, and their watch habits - so it does tell YT things, so therefore it is a useful metric? otherwise why would they/we be able to track that habit of sub and watcher. if subs don't count!
i sub to channels so i can see what their next vid is, i can also find them again, because why trust an algorithm to serve you, you could miss a loads from a creator that it wont serve you - i found that out, which is why i sub.
if this vanity metric means naff all, why is there such hype at get 100k and beyond with fancy play buttons and etc. watching things that YT recommends to me, is the fastest way to doom scrolling. and loosing days at a time - that's not healthy either.
not all viewers are created equal.. if subscriptions don't matter why is it linked to so much access AND success?. as a viewer of the last 13 years my habit is to watch and go, leave no comments and no likes - and many people are like that. i find a lot of my viewers do same, partly cos they just want to watch, and partly because they do not log in to YT so cant like or comment... interaction as you like to say. but the view is still super valid and important.
sorry for the long message, i know i am talking to the void, as i rarely get a response to my ramblings!
just sometimes feel confused about the messaging. but i can appreciate how you bring the message.
Hit the nail on the head with your observations.
As a small creator it’s sometimes disheartening to not grow. But I will persevere 😊
I sub to folks all the time. I keep the best people in my regular circle and I unsub when folks aren't serving me anymore.
I think that Vidiq should focus more on this because we gamers are always left out of harm's way 🤬🤬
I make my own music and AMVs for them. 90% of the tips cant work for that too. ^^;
As a viewer and creator for VidIQ ur advice or information is a nice addition
But also videos like these are repetitive sometimes.. we get the same topics but lil difference that lead to the same result
Can we dial it back when it comes to vids like these?
The audience is the algorithm
Sometimes I see a video from a channel I haven't watched for a long time and notice I am no longer subscribed which leads me to think UA-cam has unsubbed me without my knowledge because often they are channels that are still relevant to me. Do you know why this may be happening?
Learning that YT sees the effects of thumb/title changes on their end in seconds is gold. I would have thought it was at least hours, if not days - but with this piece of info you know if you're not getting the response you anticipate, change it.
Subscriptions are almost meaningless beyond those who want to monetize. Having said that - 96% of my views this month were not subscribed users.
Wishing everyone luck on their UA-cam journey. We just gotta keep grinding🙏🏼
It's interesting how the algorithm works
You mean: not work
What other channels my audience is watching would be a game changer.....if only I could see it! This is whats so frustrating for smaller channels. The "Tools" seem to trickle in and you get more as your subscriber count increases. This I believe is where the "Im being ignored because I am a smaller channel!" thought process comes into play. Just one example.
Don't worry mate..we will recognize one day
@@TheAdamsrealityTv Yes! We just keep up plugging along, fixing, getting better and say a little prayer that our efforts pay off.
Yes. Go to analytics and go to research. It is there. You will see it there
Data can be irrelevant u less enough is available. So some stuff won’t help until you have grown at least a little bit.
This video is a very good example of how to attract audience, make them watch the whole video, and also get them to comment as I'm doing now.
Cheers!
You are always updating us new channels and giving us great tips and advices, and thank you for that!
When are you able to see what your audience watches? Are there requirements, or do you just get it randomly one day?
Thanks Vidiq! ❤
Hope yu all are well.
My question: when is visible the graphic where we can see when is the best time to upload a video?
Thanks in advance! ❤
@StartProChannel
Looking at "audience" habits might be helpful, BUT - it doesn't help when YT states "not enough data" to share viewing habits.
Can we actually trust anything he says though? There has been a recent leak from Google where up to 14k items that are checked when deciding where to rank a website in the algo have been shown. What was also seemingly shown was that most of what Google had been Telling SEO's over the years had been misleading at best and an outright lie at worst..
I would argue that the UA-cam recommendation system is a different beast to Google’s website ranking algorithms.
@@DougHewsonYT Personally I wouldn't. They may have started that way but personally I believe they are increasingly using very similar codebases..
It's false hope to keep you watching and plugging along. There isn't enough money to make everyone successful. If youtube gatekeepers like you they will push your videos. That's the truth they will never admit.
You can't trust anything. Nobody knows. All preprogrammed and rigged.
Everyone says do this and do that. But the truth is. You have to pay $ to make it. You can buy your way in.
"The answer is we don't" which tells me it's CONTROLLED ALGORITHM
There has definitely been a push towards featuring more content from us new creators and I am all for it! Let's get it!
I have a question related to "UA-cam hating me." Why do some of my subscribers, with notifications enabled, not see our released videos? My subscribers are telling YT they want to see our content, yet they don't get to see it unless they go to our channel and click on it. Seems like the algorithm isn't working then.
As a new 'tuber' I appreciate your info and work you put into helping us out.
Thank you for 25 followers ❤
Wow, there is so much to learn! I got my 1st 50 subs this week and felt so happy ❤ thanks for the amazing advice!
There is one problem with audience tab... Even tho I have over 300 watch hours, there is no data in what other stuff my audience likes to watch
Am lucky to find this channel and be part of the family...though i have few subs i know one day will grow will never quit...
How do you get your channel to be recommended in your niche with other channels in your niche?
You don't/can't. One woman's beginner channel saved a bird and got 34k views. I save birds all the time and get 34 views. Let that make sense. All the algorithm had to do was to serve one of my videos to her 34K viewers. My guess is, it didn't. Apparently that is rocket science.
@@SonetLandman I like that. Who wants to watch birds being released over and over again?? A niche is like keeping a bird in a cage.
just be consistent, eventually everyone can find someone that likes his content
Holy Moly I needed this video! I released some music 15 hours ago and it's only gotten 8 views and 18 impressions, which is far lower than the 103 and 9,045 on my other piece of music.
I'll try these strategies and some others from your videos then come back and update this with the results.
Thanks again for some great tips!
Promotions tanked my CTR and watch hours…will never use it again. Basically paid for a service to make my analytics worse.😢😢😢
Whoever reading this, I wish your channel grows by 100000m. Best of luck! and don't give up. Difficult start made easy end..
I appreciate your channel and the useful advise. As a new creator what I have learned is UA-cam is not a sprint but a marathon, it's not about finishing first but crossing the finish line. A constant learning process. Thank you for the videos.
