What I appreciate about all of your videos...where you are fly fishing, jig fishing, lure fishing or fishing with bait....is that you explain your approach and why you are fishing the body or water the way you are fishing it. Thank you.
Right on. There is a lot of experimenting and fine tuning to get to the point where I can have success with regularity. Often when the fishing is tough, it's the little things that make the difference!
Nice job . Every time I have been fishing for trout at my spot I got in Lake Tahoe I just got little brown trout and a ok size rainbow since summer time has came . I know they go out deep in the summer but the spot I fish is really deep . Anyway nice catch I’ll have to see if those fish I released have gotten any bigger soon
I am really going to start focusing on comparing the rocky areas to sandy areas. There were no crawdads in the one I got here but every large fish I get in rocky areas seem to be loaded with them. Even though the rocky areas are harder to fish, sometimes I think I need to simply follow the food chain! Even when you have deep water near shore, I think in summer all of the human activity in and on top of the water probably makes fish larger fish cautious and scares them away. I have no actual evidence of this because I am guessing!
That’s a great guess and does have something to do with it . I know from my experiences that I have also found a few crawdads in the fish I caught in Lake Tahoe . I have tried using them for bait and no luck . I was surprised when I caught my biggest trout with red/pink/ orange power bait . Floating minnows that you catch with a trap will work better than the little crawdads . Ethier way half of the time I hook up at my spot I get snagged . Still I am faithful that my spot will gift me another huge beautiful trout .
Awesome video as usual man.. I wanted to ask you if I can send you some jigs somehow. I have some olive wooly bugger jigs with grizzly hackles. 1/8th oz .. they are truly amazing and work super well. I'm sure you would enjoy them.
People always ask! I've shown it in a few clips but I figure it wouldn't hurt to get the close up shot on this one. Thanks for checking out the clip. Rough conditions out there!
Amani. I live in Central Cal and fish many of the same Sierra waters as you do. You got me interested in spinning for the bigger trout in lakes and rivers. What size Floating and countdown Rapalas do you recommend? Thanks.
I typically use ones that are 3-4 inches long. I have a couple of larger Rapala and Rebel lures I throw at sundown when I know there is a good chance of larger fish.
My day job in the shipping industry is horrible and I hate it but it pays the bills and I have time to fish. Taking this job was the cost of moving to Reno from SoCal on short notice while. If I were to get into sales or management in the hospitality industry where I have extensive experience, it would consume all of my limited free time I have to make content. For now, I'll stick with 4 long days of nightmare and 3 days free to create content. It is what it is!
Hey. Wanted to comment also. I love your lack of snobbery in fly fishing. Just basic stuff. I mule pack trip every uear into the Ansel Adams and see alot of “high end” fly experts telling me I need this or that. I usally outfish them with just a few basic flies. Just proves that all the fancy stuff is not needed in the Sierra.
Thank you for the kind words. I say, the most important thing is getting to the water's edge. Then, use whatever you got on you to make things happen! That's how I roll!

I just season them and cook them as they are. If I had a smoker and a backyard I would certainly smoke some. I don't want to annoy everyone in my apartment building with fish smoke so I don't do it.
I typically just park off the side of the road and simply head down to the water where there is not private property. Chimney Beach, Logan shoals Vista point, and the parks all have parking.
Btw ..I skin my fish, marinade soy souse garlic and lots of lemon.bbq them over hickory chips ..I ( I leave the heads on when I clean)break the head back and cut the fins away, you have to be very delicate of smashing the fishs meat so be careful.Make your own marinade, skinning the fish makes it mild..
@@truewealth50 I usually bake it or fry it up. The seasoning might change a little but my basic method has been the same for years. I have 3 clips on my variety playlist that basically lay out my main cooking styles for trout. The 'sweet lemon pepper trout' clip is the main way I cook it up. I'm real simple!
I think Wednesday is supposed to be OK but who knows. It's tough fishing when it's this windy and choppy but it can be done! Cave Rock State park is a little farther down the road so if it is too crazy, you can cast out and sit in your car until you see your rod double over! It's deeper near the entrance rather than the far end if you go. It is my understanding that either state license is good anywhere on the lake so hopefully you can find something workable. Good luck.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I am going to be standing with one of my rods in my hand with the rain in my face waiting for it out on the rocks. Im not fishing at cave rock period. I hate fishing by other people I fish to get away from people ...
Why not take a Surf Rod in these conditions for enhanced casting and maneuvering the rocks..instead of "going in" ,horse 'em in over the rocks...its safer for the fisher, although harder on the fish..
I don't know. I like fighting those fish on my light 5' rods. It's a challenge to land them. It does get a little hairy at times when the waves are crashing up! Bigger rod would be easier!
I really don't have anything set up for direct contact. I do all of my own video editing/production and am no where near being able to afford to pay anyone for services. I also have friends and family who would help me with it for free. I just don't want to bother them at this point so I go it alone for now. As far as providing advice if that's what you are asking about, I am probably the last place you could get good information on that! My knowledge in those matters is crude at best! I'm sure it shows!
I have not fished powerbait in decades but it's always fun watching your videos. Congratulations on your success.
The challenge there is not catching the fish, it's landing the fish! When I jumped down on that rock, I wasn't liking the odds!

Man, landing that fish in those waves was no picnic!
Once again, you demonstrate how it's done. Love your enthusiasm even in challenging circumstances
Thank you. Fun morning out there. The waves were a bit much but nothing that can't be dealt with.
Thanks for sharing
Glad to share such a fun morning. I barely got that fish in the net. The first few times I tried to scoop it up, the waves would pull the fish away!
