So, I think some of the stars proven to use no jumps might be able to alter the original route to beat Bowser the first time at the end with a lower jump counter.
It was so cool of the mario galaxy abc team that figured out and tas'd all of these! They are super cool and did a really amazing job working with an otherwise limited game. You did an ok job showing off their work.
Great job on this. I can really see that you spent more time looking at speedrunning moves as well as tricks in the game, along with help from community members.
Another fantastic video I always want more challenge videos revolves around 100% completing the game instead of just beating it to the end so this video finally fills that urge
I've been playing this game this month since completing the 2nd one on my wii. It's so frustrating hearing you say how easy this was since I've been rage quitting every day... 😂😂😂
I love challenge videos like this one. It’s always amazing to see people push the limits of what’s possible in a Mario game. 103 is a surprisingly low number for a challenge of this magnitude.
I love the fact that I'm 4 minutes in and you already undid 37 jumps from the first video. Loved the first video, now I will watch the rest of this one. Keep playing galaxy!😁
Never in my life have I heard of Crystal floating and high side jumps and shore whatever it was but the community really had you git gud in every conceivable manner huh
I love SMG/SMG 2 TAS. Idk what it is about speedrunning this game but its just such a satisfying speedrun in general. If you do SMG2 iirc theres a TAS for it as well and the speedrun itself is also neat.
Ima be honest this was such an entertaining video to watch lol. Also i love how ur just casually explaining while what can only be described as mario witchcraft is taking place on screen
Wow, another great SMG video. I still think itd be more interesting to use the SM64 ABC ruleset to avoid subjectivity, but it's your self imposed challenge 😉 Thanks for the content!
It isn’t supposed to be a thing, if you move the stick towards the direction you are not facing, you’ll gain height, and speed but if you do the opposite, that would be when you start to lose height
Were there any possible optimizations in star choice for the previous video? I mean like, choosing different stars to lower the total jump count since a lot of them were doable with 0. Also, the fact that you can do the entire game's stars with less jumps total (mario only) than the previous video had is both funny and great.
26:10 you did add the jumps for Luigi but you did forget to mention that you had to complete the level with both characters explaining why you added 4 to the counter when you only mentioned 2 jumps. Overall great video and I love your content.
This was such a joy to watch, I loved learning about various TAS / speedrun exploits I hadn't heard of before! Will you be attempting this for Galaxy 2 by chance? I'd love to see that game get some attention as well
Please tell me that the lilypad glitch is called "lilyvator" or something like that (a play on elevator, for anyone seeing this who can't tell). It's one of the funniest glitches I've seen in this game and needs a suitably funny name.
@@pvzpokra8602 you get more height as Luigi for one of the coins in melty molten purple coins, you get more height from an enemy that will cause you to gain more momentum overall to grab a pole in toy time (this happens on the ice cream planet) Those are all the ones I can think of that don’t show up in the abc playlist linked in the description. If there are more you can go to their discord server and check out a google doc that shows all the stars (it includes things Luigi can and cannot do)
1. hit an astrogoomba up the slanted area (really difficult since they usually slide off) 2. climb up slant and bounce on another goomba to reach the goomba on the slant 3. you can bounce on the goomba to just barely get enough height to wall jump up to the top area 4. fall off the top area from the back in a hyperspecifc way to get pulled into the gravity of the planet that has the launch star. if you have any more questions, I hope I can answer them. (this is also a very advanced trick, so keep in mind it might take a while to pull off) (btw I really liked your minimum spin video)
After trying to do the trick for a while I have a few questions about the specifics of the trick. Q1: You mention in step 3 that you're meant to Wall Jump off of something, but there doesn't really seem to be anything nearby to Wall Jump off of. I've tried multiple different angles but the most that's happened is that Luigi acts like he just entered a different gravity zone(?) and falls back down to the slope. What exactly do I Wall Jump off of? Q2: Looking back at the footage presented in this video, I noticed that the P2 cursor shows up for a split second. Does this have anything to do with the trick at all?
@@Forgado there is a wall you can jump off of if you gain enough height from the goomba (can’t remember if the wall is invisible or not but there is one there) p2 doesn’t affect anything.
So I wanted to open that this video is insane from start to finish but to comment on the bit asking for improvement, could you have spin jumped off the toad for the final star to cut down by 1 more jump? Again tho, fantastic video
they should be in the SMG ABC playlist I linked in the description, most of them are crystal floating, and a few of them are enemy bounces that mario can't do for whatever reason. there was only like 13 actual saves that he could make though if I recall correctly.
If you make another challenge video like this, I think you should put TAS or some other indicator when the footage is from a TAS. As someone who’s part of the SMG ABC server, a LOT of this footage is TASes.
Man, if there's a huge difference between Mario and Luigi, show the differences! The last number feels like it's been thrown into the air as it has been presented! On top of that, if a star is very hard to get with less jumps, show the TAS entirely! Other than that, the video was good
the only change with luigi that really matters is his spin being more floaty, this allows him to use crystal floating more. I decided not to show exactly how much of a difference it makes, but you're right that I should have shown more
@@Ansel_G No problem, I realized my feedback was maybe a little harsh, but most challenge channels tend to show those differences when they happen. In the end it's up to you if you wanna show them or not, but this kind of info certainly appeases my personal curiosity
wow, you actually put in effort (gaming and editing-wise) to this video; for that you earned a sub coming from youtube recommend! comment by i: a man, mico ⭐laurente.
You really leveled up your game there compared to the first video. Out of borders, glitchy jumps... a pleasure
glad you like it :D
I just realized that maybe with some routing changes, you could maybe lower the jump count further
So, I think some of the stars proven to use no jumps might be able to alter the original route to beat Bowser the first time at the end with a lower jump counter.
Yup, they will
even with jumps
Luigi's purple coins is an absolute nightmare to beat
mad props to beating that hell hole of a level without jumping
Really?
I've always found it to be an easy purple coins star
Easy meaning I've never died more than three times in a row while attempting it
@@syedshah9029 Eh, I consider it as one of the harder purple coin stars, but there are several harder ones like dreadnought's purple coins
The sheer absurdity of some of these tricks is not only amazing but also just plain hilarious.
The goomba one at 1:15 is actually insane!!
thank BillyWar1 for that one, he recorded that being done
@@Ansel_G it was TASed? The movements look real stiff.

Kind of poetic, how 100% on the mariofile took 58 jumps, aka almost the amount that game completion took before the comment optimisation.

I used to have a series where I’d try to learn how to speedrun a game in a short amount of time, maybe I should bring it back 🤔

I practiced a lot this video, don’t worry haha. I’m even better for the Mario Galaxy 2 videos
God damn the any% stat count has dropped insanely, love to see a follow up on that the final number feels so much more accomplished

Wooooww, today i learned that it only takes 103 jumps to complete Mario Galaxy 1. who would have thought, thats fascinating. Awesome Video Ansel!

Just a fun fact: in loop de swoop Galaxy, you can completely skip the massive loop
The loop is the fun part though
I refuse to believe that crystal floating's supposed to be a thing. That looks like cutting mario out and pulling him to the desired spot
It isn’t supposed to be a thing, if you move the stick towards the direction you are not facing, you’ll gain height, and speed but if you do the opposite, that would be when you start to lose height
It's rare to see one of these videos with tas and I think I should be done more
This would be cool as a second a button challenge for pannekoek and such to start doing, now that sm64 is pretty much fully optimized!
