Watching this now a 2nd time, since last summer, because I'm getting closer to putting an order in. Thank you again for putting this together and going through each line item in such great detail.
Thank you so much for your time and effort in explaining the spec sheet. This will help a lot in speccing mine. There are many items I had no idea about but now I can go to the factory not looking like dufus. Much much appreciated.
Congratulations and thank you for putting together this video, Some years ago I was looking at purchasing a 3.5 and oddly all the options you picked were on my list bar a couple of cosmetic ones. I've since got a motorcycle licence and the dream car will remain so for a while yet. Hope you enjoy driving it as much as I imagine you would and keep posting videos, they are rare so the internet can do with more Atoms!
Thanks for your kind comment. Hopefully you will experience one soon enough, they are fantastic machines - beware though they draw the crowds and you get constant attention wherever you go!
Crying shame over here in Australia - only 50 cars (alot for Ariel I suppose) have been commissioned for our market and we don't get the mad buggy Nomad at all 😢
Just one thing about high mount brake light, is that when you have the car lights on the difference between seeing a light change from dull to bright, as to off to on can , be well a collision.
This has been my dream car i finish paying off my cars 2 years ago and i been saving and i am 1 year away from my goal to already call to start the built process
I believe there is still a 2.5yr wait list for one. So putting an order in sooner than later will allow you to save. It's an amazing car, it brings so much happiness.
Glad you found it useful. I have only driven the car at night once and the lights are really good surprisingly. On full beam they have a long reach. I tend not to drive it in the dark because it's just too dangerous really, I am worried someone will drive into me being a black car does help either!
@@sl0w_racer Thank you for replying, good point about night time driving dangers, for some strange reason i get a real buzz from night driving. A pal of mine is getting a Nomad and thats making me consider the Atom, i need to get a proper test drive in one and will no doubt be hooked straight away!
I made the carpet too! lol. It's pretty easy, I made it from felt carpet the same type used to make entertainment systems in cars and vans. You can get this from anywhere ebay is the best place. Glued this to 3mm rubber cut to fit inside the Atom and then fixed using velcro large round tabs stuck to the floor of the car so it can be easilly removed if not wanted or to change colour which I did do to yellow. If you don't protect the tub it scratches very easily from stones stuck to shoes when on track
Do you think it’s possible to build an atom 4 with the essential options for £50-55k, contemplating ordering once I’ve sold a few of my current cars but I couldn’t afford more than 10-15k of options?
Sure you can. Absolute minimum options on this car whether road or track use I would say are as follows; baffled sump, AP racing brakes, lsd (if road only use, then you only need this for resale), aero screen, single adjustable shocks (Bilstein), IVA, registration and tax. That is about £7k or so. Remember you can upgrade later also i.e. more power, perhaps some carbon bling, track lap timing toys, cameras, aero, gearbox etc. I have upgraded quite a few things on my car since build. So in other words spending around ~£48k will get you a good Atom 4.
In my opinion the company should start to make the wheels wider just like the formula 1 cars with the big wings front and rare with the side skirts and wind defusers with the ventilated ceramic brake option
Check out my latest update video. That shows front and rear wings and diffuser. There is a carbon brake option for this car. Not sure you need it though or rather if it's worth the cost due to it's extreme light weight already
@@user-wf2wi5wc2k Yes this is correct. The 3" seat belt option no matter which one you choose will come with the quick release buckle that allows for a 5 point harness. The video shows what a 5 point harness looks like, if just specifying the 3" belts you will get a 4 point harness. Adding the "V" type crutch strap will turn it into a 5 point harness making it much safer.
@@sl0w_racer I know that saving weight on the wheels should make a really noticeable difference since it's unsprung mass, so they can't be cheap, but £10,000 is a bit much.
Thanks for this video. Very interesting. I recognise the roads in and around Norwich from another vid. Did you ever experience the atom 3? I'm 40 nxt Yr and am in the market for one (crisis inbound haha).
I've never driven a 3, I've been in many but any Atom is awesome, you can't go wrong with any of them tbh. Make sure you look at the supercharged version though.
@@sl0w_racer Thanks for the quick reply. I've heard great things. Yours looks great BTW. Waiting list gives great residential values too by the looks. I'd only consider a supercharged one anyway. Owned a Civic type R years ago and love the Honda power.
@@flwryvv Yes, you will lose next to 0 on it if you look after it. My car is quite a bit different now, the carbon fibre aero goes on in the next couple weeks and I am swapping over to Yokohama A052 tyres, I just ordered these. They are like lego, you can keep changing and upgrading them to fit your driving as you learn more about the car. If you are local you are welcome to a passenger ride when the weather gets a bit warmer - albeit it's not a supercharged 3 (of course)
oooh that's an easy one I'd say. Options I can't live without: Ohlins - worth every penny, power upgrade brings the car alive as does the race exhaust those are the 3 top things - oh yeah and the brakes - go for the AP racing brakes. Lastly, lap timing I really need to know how I am doing lap after lap. In terms of what I wish I did not spec: I wish I never opt'ed for the Avon ZZR tyres and went straight Yoko's. I wish I never opt'ed for the front tow hook (although cheap in the grand scheme of things) it's just a bolt with a hook at £150 quite a lot and I replaced it with a FIA strap anyway. I wish I swapped the standard pads supplied with the AP racing brakes with the harder compound pads - but this is low ££ to swap which will be swapped during it's next service. I wish I did not go for the standard (plastic) light fittings and went straight carbon at build - I had to pay to have these fitted/changed later. The standard ones look awful and cheap. I wish I went for the 3" harness alloy chest adjusters instead of the steel ones on my car now. I have the 3" harnesses just not the alloy versions. I wish I spec'ed the lightweight fly wheel, this is an engine out job. The dual mass flywheel that comes with the engine is laggy. If I end up going for the sequential box then I will get this changed at the same time. I was quite careful with what I spec'ed though. For example a lot of options I or the factory have added since build was done in the most cost effective way. i.e. buying off the shelf product for a fraction of the price. The AIM GPS08 is an example of this (now GPS09 has been released)
Thanks for the reply have you had the wings fitted yet? or any chance or a new video with all upgrades covered since purchase would be brilliant when you get chance 👍🏻
@@benjones4238 I don't yet have a price for the retro fit. Probably will get it done for next season now. There is only realistically another 6 weeks left of track time before the bad weather comes.

So how much extra do these options cost? And how do Carbon wheels cost extra? Because this is more or less how I'd spec mine.
There are too many options to list all the prices. Ariel has the price list in an Excel sheet. The carbon wheels cost £10,000 so are not cheap at all.
