But NO a quick google search reveals that this inconsequential episode is actually the season finale. I was so mad.
This was pretty far from being the worst finale ever. It was a good episode overall, just not a good finale because we had a letdown. We deserved a big dragon fight, battle, or death, of some kind. If you add a 5 minute sequence to that episode with a big twist, it would have gone down as a good finale. So, hardly the worst finale ever. That would go to GoT season 8
4:13 and it’s never explained in the show why king’s landing is starving when the blockade is only by sea and they have the entirety of highgarden to the west that could supply food to them doing nothing I guess.
As bad as it being filler season was, it’s worse that they changed the character motivations with an about face. Aemond being made a cartoon villain. Daemon being made a slave to prophecy. Alicent who loves her kids even knowing their flaws now selling out her kids to save herself. Haelena suddenly an all powerful greenseer encouraging giving into prophecy. Pretty well all the changes from the book have been for the worse, so that seems a bit worse for the show than it being a filler season.
@@InfinitePublicsyeah Aemond being evil came out of nowhere for me, vengeful and angry against the blacks sure, but outright evil to his own family was weird
@@theusernameicoodfind I’d have to reread the book but don’t think he was a cartoon villain there. And considering they had Aemond going no Vhagar no when killing Lucerys it’s a complete 180 from accidental/trying not to kill the person he hates most to purposefully trying to kill Aegon, murdering thousands for no reason off screen because he’s supposedly scared and manhandling his sister whom he loved (and had been believed he was Helaenas children’s actual father…). The switch just makes no sense. Alicent daemon and Rhaenyra are similarly done wrong. Daemons makes me angry because it seemed pretty clear he never wanted the throne just his brothers love then the whole S2 back and forth over declaring himself king because “you always wanted it daemon, do you want it still?” 🤦♂️ Only to end that drivel with even worse, making him a slave to prophecy - not choosing he loves Rhaenyra more than he apparently wanted to be king, but doing it because “you know your role”, because it was simply what he was supposed to do. Taking any agency out of Daemons choices.
4:00 The funny thing, I still don't think he knows about the Rhaenyra sneaking into KL. I think he would have removed Alicent from the city, nevermind the council sooner if he did.
I am more of a Green fan because, in the first season, the Green team was so interesting. Alicent is one of my favourite characters; she is the beacon among the dragons. Writers butchered alicents character arc in season 2. she is the one who put aegon in this mess. now she wanna out with Helena and put her sons to death? It makes no sense. Sir Criston Cole, sees one dragon fight and then "This wasnt i signed up for"😂 Helaena, instead of being a broken mother, did become the 3 eyed raven and kind of spoiled the show. Aemond and Vhaegar are the best in season 2. But Aemond also has no motive except to be in the green team.
Here's how a better adaptation of the plot would have worked out: Step 1) Don't make your characters know the future, it will dictate their entire behavior and decisions, and as such you deprive them of any and all chances of personal growth in a character arc. Step 2) Actually flesh them out and make them unique. I don't understand how GRRM's "outline" for The Dance of Dragons from fire and blood did that while a whole +100 million dollars budget show ... Undid it by straying away from the outline.
I felt like it was an enjoyable episode 8 with a lot of stakes and tension built up, but just doesn’t cut it as a season finale with a 2 year wait. If there was an episode 9 (battles/payoffs for this episode’s setup) and episode 10 (fallout/resolution leading to Season 3), then I feel it would’ve been received much better by the fan base.
I was complaining the whole time watching the episode then went to youtube after to find a recap. Very happy to see the same complaints, was very funny to watch this recap.
Great video, fantastic editing. More entertaining than the episode. And I appreciated the Hot Fuzz reference. I think it's time HBO/Ryan Condal fired Sara Hess. For the greater good.
They straight up spit in our faces with nothing of Tessarion but what was in the trailer. That's not a "creative choice", That's a, "F**k 'em, they'll watch it anyway, while we try to secure enough finances to actually finish the series".
FINALLY! Someone clearly said that it was NOT just a lack of time and "if it was not the final episode but 8th out of 10 episodes, it would be good", but admitted it was just very poor writing
I’m not going to say I expected a bunch of nonstop action, but nearly every episode felt like filler with Rhaenyra twiddling her thumbs and constantly saying “WhAt WoUlD YoU HaVe Me Do” every time she could. I would’ve preferred a little action in the finale though. The whole season and finale felt like a tease for the next season. Which will be 2 years from now. HotD received effusive praise because it was competing with _Rings of Power_ which most Tolkien fans hated. So at least some of the praise for the show was unearned in the first place. Without RoP to act as a foil, fans can finally watch the show clear-eyed... and it is wanting.
Season 1 still was pretty good but was never blind to its flaws. But season 2 is more bad than good, with pretty well every change from the books being for the worse. Even George said some for heir changes in season 1 like Patty Constantine’s performance were better than the book but no one will say that about season 2, for anything.
Agree. Season 1 wasn't perfect like many said. But still surprised me how soon it is showing its flaws. GOT at least had 4 good seasons before slowly becoming trash.
@@Emy-fv5nywell I think even season 4 shows signs of problems with the show. Jaime freeing Tyrion and then not telling him about Tysha was a big mistake because it removed Tyrion’s hatred of his whole family and just focused it on Cersei and I guess himself. He’s just a drunk for the rest of the series and he doesn’t do anything anymore.
@@theusernameicoodfind Well, they never based Tyrion on the Tysha situation, a mistake in deed. But the show decided it that way from the very begining.
