Bluth could of been the next Disney, thanks to him though, we got Disney to push boundaries and jump out of their comfort zone. Thanks to Bluth's competitive underdog spirit we got the renaissance.

7:40, that unique glitter effect I see in every single Don Bluth movie (usually done in orange/brass and of higher, clearer quality. For example, the sparkle affect on Princess Daphne and the sparkle on the shooting diamond stars in All Dogs go to Heaven.)... How the holy fuck do they do that? It's beautiful.

Spielberg and Bluth should have started their collaboration with a short film starring who was then Universal's star cartoon character (like Mickey Mouse is to Disney and Bugs Bunny is to WB). That character? Woody Woodpecker. It would have been really cool to see Dom DeLuise and Phillip Glasser (the voice of Fievel) play Woody's enemies Buzz Buzzard and Andy Panda respectively, not to mention a stroke of pure genius. It especially would have been cool to see it released with Back to the Future in 1985 and spark interest in seeing An American Tail.

You know one day I'd like to see Don Bluth and whoever is still with him draw the entire N64 version of Diddy Kong Racing's cast in their art style as since Diddy Kong Racing for the N64 reminds me of his films I'd love to see an interpretation of it in the style of the films it reminds me of, not to mention Don Bluth is no stranger to working with video games as evidenced by Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.

A Directing Animator is the main animator behind certain characters and/or scenes. (Ex. Glen Keane was in charge of The Beast)
The Animation Director is just a regular director, only focusing on animated sequences.
(Ex. While Bob Zemeckis focused on the live-action in Roger Rabbit, Richard Williams focused on the animation)

Loved everything Don worked on. His contribution to Disney was a great start.
Here are my thoughts on the films he was fully recognised for.
Pete’s Dragon - Very wholesome and charming, great story, very creative combination of live action and hand drawn animation and Elliott steals the show big time.
Small One - Very heartfelt and sweet story and I like how they based it in Bethlehem.
Banjo the Woodpile Cat - Very fun, great characters, simple story and I like how Scatman Crothers was casted as another musical cat.
Secret of Nimh - Very well-written premise, excellent animation, great characters, great use of fantasy and scientific themes with some heavy and dark moments.
An American Tail - Very cute and memorable movie, great setting and concept and I like how they incorporated the themes on emigration from Russia to America.

I wonder if you could comment on the ongoing production of the Dragon's Lair's movie, is there any new information or update on the project??
Also, I discovered that there is a publication (magazine format) by Don Bluth called 'Don Bluth's TOON TALK, released in 2000, but damn, they are very hard to find. Would be awesome if you manage to make a video about them.

It's really fucking stupid how UA-cam, or whatever company, would take this down. What's wrong with educating people on the history of a film maker? What's wrong with giving credit to a film that deserves credit? It's not like you're uploading entire films of the movies.

jacoblgames It counts as fair use if the changes made to the source material qualify to give it a different meaning. For example, an upload of a movie simply inverting it and adding a frame around it doesn't count as fair use since it has the same meaning, but a review of said movie using clips from it does constitute fair use because the meaning is no longer the one in the movie but rather the critique of said movie.

"More than anyone else." I'm sure many Ralph Bakshi fans would love to debate that.
Don Bluth and his associates left because they hated the direction Disney was heading in (it was being run in the typical Hollywood style). Banjo The Woodpile Cat was done as training for a feature film. Rocko would also have a stogie in his mouth, like Carface Carruthers. Banjo was partially funded by a former Disney CEO (somehow he found out about the "defectors"). So how did MGM acquire Secret of NIMH? MGM also released the film regionally instead of nationally. SON2 isn't worth mention. I put An American Tail as "best Don Bluth film."
East of the Sun and West of the Moon was cancelled due to Aurora Productions pulling their funding. Wait, didn't Bluth's cancelled films never make it past pre-production (with the exception of Jawbreaker, I think)? Those cats are Cossacks, so, you know. Robin Hood wasn't a success? How much did Disney spend on advertising? I read AAT's budget was $9 million.
Fun fact: Banjo is the only IP he created that he owns.

The Land Before Time will always be my favorite. But that doesn't in any way suggest any of the other works are necessarily lesser creations. It just pricks the bubble around the edges of my hardened heart, and the soundtrack alone is enough to flood my face with tears and a sense of profound joy simultaneously. I can't really explain it. It's more than nostalgia, because I was too young to have that sort of contemplation when I first saw it.

17:49 "Monsters disguised as cats" ?! Not to be that correcting guy, but the cats in the beginning of AAT are supposed to be 'Cossacks', a Soviet (Russian, Slav, Ukrainian, etc) subgroup from history whom the Romanov Dynasty used as a military force during The Russian Pogroms of 1919. They'd bust into Jewish Shetls aka Villages (often drunk) on horse back and would riot, yielding swords slashing at ppl, creating general chaos on the population, all backed by The Russian government. The Pogroms are what brought my family as well as countless other Jews to the US and Israel. Seems like all the ppl who died or whom fled that situation a century and a half ago in REAL LIFE not just on the screen, deserve better historical context than "monsters disguised as cats". I don't claim to be any authority on the subject matter, but I think these details are important in order to do these films justice. Don Bluth tackled some real issues in some of his films, clearly that is underestimated.

Yep! That was which they called as the "UA Paperclip" logo, and the music itself was completely epic. You have to see it for yourself. It lasted for a few films including "Rocky 3" and "Octopussy". During that time, it was many of the older UA films that plastered the UA logos like the "Hexagon", "Circle" and the Transamerica "T" logos.
