The topic at 53mins.... DID developed to keep you safe in scary situations. So in general it works to help you cope with the world in a way that will keep you safest.... often so no one will notice you. Unless the system is very overwhelmed, often switching is to cope best with a situation without anyone noticing your vulnerability. Like how birds don't show they're sick until they drop off the perch.

The thought of revenge in reality... meeting the abuser as was mentioned; I think in DID you might have an internal part that is strong and conquers everything, but in reality, in front of the abuser you again become that helpless child that couldn't cope - and will not know how to do without a lot of practise, but needs protection. So that would be kind of just the dissociation taking part agian, but this time consciously.

The auditory hallucinations associated with DID are different from the hallucinations associated with schizophrenia. For DID the voices are internal (based on personal experience) and for schizophrenia, the voices are usually external from what I have learned. I would like to know if you disagree, but I think this is accurate.
Switching at work? Yeah, I had to resign recently and was out of work for almost 3 months. I 'came to' up in the middle of an all staff meeting with no idea what was going on. Sometimes, I know when a switch is coming. Sometimes, it happens in an instant with no warning at all.
Another good video. I subscribed. Thanks!

Punny that Dr Ross referred to my EMDR intervention for the client who retrieved a gun in a dream state as a "magic bullet"! (Pun certainly unintended; he referred to EMDR as such in his books and other talks).
Also punny, when preparing the gun-toting client for a session we talked about "targeting" the traumatic experience... 🎯😅
