I drove one of these on a track, and it is true what Top Gear said about what the Corvette producers say every year... "This year we made great improvements" But the 2014 model, really was a big improvement, even the Top Gear guys said so, the makers of the Vette really did try to stretch this to supercar proportions. That car is a beast on the track, excellent handling, even on a wet track, which is surprising for a Vette.
Personally I like paddle shift, it lets me focus more on cornering and such, plus shift time is alot quicker. I can understand why manuals are still loved, but I think paddles are logistically better.

Did this car have the PDR (Performance Data Recorder)? If so, I hope they took a video of the run with the telemetry overlay. That would be a fun video to watch.
You don't have to be born rich. You can work hard, have a reasonable lifestyle and afford the stingray. That's the difference Europeans. Only your royalty can afford thrills. Not in America.
We don't think you all are third world, get that out of your head. We build affordable sports cars for the masses. And we test ourselves against jag, BMW, and Mercedes. That is how we keep getting better. We don't want to be better than you, we just want to be good.
"We build affordable sports cars for the masses" Really? And what other sportscars have you other than corvette? Those boats on four wheels (modern musclecars) that cant take a corner are not sports cars.
I dont know. The Viper? The CTS V? Ford GT? The GT350R? Even Tesla? Do you know cars, or better yet, have you ever driven one? Or even a European sports car for that matter? An SLS, maybe? Or are you an arm chair warrior?
+Joey Ros: "Heel and toe" is how you rev-match downshift, unless you're coasting at the moment and don't have your foot on the brake, in which case it can be fun to practice double-clutch rev-match downshifting before adding the heel-and-toe element to it whilst under active braking.
+Joey Ros The auto rev match is just much better than Stig can do himself! It's really good. Unfortunately, the gas pedal response is not linear (even in Track Mode), and it can be quite tricky to rev match "footly" (manually with your foot)! lol

17dbJohn Oh well then I have no Idea. Most modern supercars use double clutch gearboxes which are automatic, so the pedals are the gear changers, I assumed that this is the same case.
redphiveII Cos it's a cheap nasty American car, and to save money on making two different steering wheels they use the paddles for switching the rev matching on the manual version.
Some say he likes Corvette C7 others say he likes a Cayman GTS and got one for his twelve birthday crashing it seconds after. All we know is he is called The Stig!
That isn't the first American car to do well. They've always underestimated Corvettes, the Z06 shocked them, and I don't think they ever did the ZR1's power lap. Nor have they done the Viper SRT, Hennessey Venom GT, Cadillac CTSV, and it's been a while, but have they done the Ford GT? It's been a while since they've had that car on, they may have done that one and I forgot.
ToxicPhenix true, failed is when he crashes. I'm not saying I could do it better, stig is awesome, but the car can't handle that corner on that speed. So, it failed due the fact it lost traction and speed.

Refined? An average european family hatchback has more finesse and refinement in the way it drives and handles. Corvette is fast becausae it has very wide, very sticky tires, lot's of electronics, lots of power and torque, and it's relatively low and wide, with a low center of gravity. Otherwise, it has nothing on the refinement of european cars. It doesn't steer, brake, transfer weight, handle, etc. anywhere near as nice. Honestly, spend 5 minutes in a Corvette and then in an Audi R8 or Porsche 911...you'll quickly realize why they cost twice as much. THe same as you realize why a Mercedes or BMW cost more than a Skoda or Opel with the same performance.
derbigpr500 oh that's weird, I could swear the C7 pulls higher lateral Gs than a 911 Carrera S which costs twice as much, breaks faster than one and is faster around a track than one. Last time I checked it also has a more even weight distribution. Please, do tell me where it needs more refinement.
***** And all of you aren't talking about refinement but statistics and numbers. Let me explain to you guys, what derbigpr500 tried to say. I take a Mazda MX-5, put 245's in the front and 285 in the back, raise it with a turbo to 500 hp and put the ceramic brakes of a Ferrari on them, equip it with a fancy coil over suspension kit and throw out some interior. This MX-5 will most likely be faster than the Corvette or the Porsche Cayman GTS, but it is by no means refined. Refined means for example choosing brakes or even developing them solely for this specific car and adjusting them to the overall car and handling until it's perfect and feels native. The Corvette really is fast and much better than older ones, but it has no refinement at all. Not a bit. But still it's fast. So you have to decide, if you want a fast car for relatively low budget, or if you want a fast and refined car for a high budget. Up to you. P.S. That's the reason we like the Corvette or Camaro, they are raw and edgy and by no means refined or perfect. But they are great fun to throw around.
False. The automatic is demonstrably faster in this car, as in many other modern automatic vehicles as well. The best times corvette recorded in it were all with the auto gear box. So you're trying to tell me Jim merro can't shift?

derbigpr500 This is from the Top Gear web site: " Is it better than a Porsche, Ferrari or McLaren?Think it's fair to say it's going to crush anything less than a 918, P1 or LaFerrari. Its combination of relentless power, unshakeable chassis - with all its clever technology that works with you - and vast brakes is unbeatable at the moment. And that's just on the track.
