The basic recipe is 1 pound of cat food and 15 grams(approximately 2 TBSP premix). The cookbook is a free download from the website. Hope you still get to try it.
What are ingredients in supplements. Does it make food more appetizing. Do u deliver to Canada. Thank you
I made my kitty’s food from my own recipe but I’d like to know how much would I add the supplements to her daily food?
Also does she still need Tourane, I think that’s how it’s spelled.
@@serrelllaw5674 what is your recipe. My cats don't eat what make
Your downloadable cookbook is PACKED with information and answers all sorts of questions I had about switching to homemade cat food! All the research I did before pointed to the fact that it was too cumbersome or unfeasible, but your cookbook and blend seems to make it so easy :) Thank you so much for imparting your 30+ years of wisdom on the pet community and helping our furry friends live a longer happier healthier life!
Thank you for support Charmaine! Glad to help :)
Where do I find the cookbook please ?
@@rachelbentham7934 I’m also curious
I'm so sorry for the delay, our notifications weren't coming through, you can download it for free on my website holisticvetblend.com/ !

after this video I downloaded the cookbook, bought the fish oil and supplements and plan a shopping trip to get the rest of the ingredients 🥲
the things I do for my baby. she eats better than me
Wonderful! The things we do for our beloved pets!
I have said this about my cat as well, lol! But we humans get to choose what we eat while our pets can only eat what we give them. I am trying to make him food to save a bit of money on the rising cost of cat food. A case of Natural Balance in 2022 is now $20 more than it was a year ago which was really killing me. So far he loves eating chicken liver and giblets so I'm pretty optimistic that he'll like hearts. Slightly worried about the cost of the supplements though.
Did your cat eat the homemade food you make?
I am so grateful to have found your videos! Thank you!
I'm so glad! That makes my day!
Thank you for being a valuable resource. I have been purchasing NomNom for my 18 year old cat recently receiving R131 for Hyperthyroidism. The Omega 3 and Vet Blend Premix is exactly what I needed to make homemade food at home. I just ordered yesterday.
Wonderful! I think you will have options to make many interesting recipes. Did you get a copy of the cookbook off the site?
I used to order from NomNom too. But cancelled due to FedEx lack of professionalism. Hopefully this recipe will be a hit for my Lily
Thank you! I've learned so much from this video and your cookbook.
I'm so glad! Thank you! This makes my day:). Please spread the word.
Very clear and most likely to repeat process for making homemade cat food. Thank you for your no-nonsense approach.
Thanks! I try. And I feed 4 dogs and 4 cats home cooked every day. So I'm walking the walk and have cooked for my own for years.
Good news! I FINALLY got my cats eating homemade food (almost all of them) . What a trip this had been! And they like your recipes! Thanks. I still have a stubborn one, but I am sure I can get him to eat like the rest.
Have you had luck with the stubborn one? Let us know! I'm so excited they are eating it!
@@HolisticVet only with chicken/turkey and mackerel mixed together. I am, however, stoked to get this far! I truly believe that the canned and dry food contain ingredients that cause the cats to be addicted to it. They still can't live without the dry food. I'm still trying!
@Patricia Powell oh yes.forsure they must because my one cat acts like a crackhead for wet food and it's still full of garbage, so here I am
Once I get back to work I'm gonna order from you and make my own cat food! I can't wait. My first kitty gets the best.
Have you had a chance to try it yet?
Thank you sooo much for this, my kitty does not like/is not able to do raw, he ends up throwing up, and even with very gradual change, enzymes, probiotics, etc. He has not been able to do it. So I was looking for cooked cat recipes and came across your channel! Already went to your site and order your Feline Premix. So excited to try your recipes and hopefully he can eat homecooked meals that would be good/right for him :) I got your premix, and the omega3 and downloaded your awesome cookbook! So excited to make my kitty some delish, healthy, homemade food!! 💞💞
Thanks so much! Here's to your cat's health!
Thank you for this im in the process of transitioning my cats from store bought wetfood to homemade cat food. I've subscribed and sent to my family and friends your video and website!
Thank you!
Thanks for the informative video, I have downloaded the cookbook now. Much appreciation from Australia.
You are so welcome Alex!
So glad that I found your video. That mix is exactly what I had in mind to feed my cats. Hope it gets here quickly!
Thank you Karen! Hope your cats enjoy!
@@HolisticVet Unfortunately my cats are refusing to eat it. They are unusually picky and will only eat pure tuna. I'm going to try and sneak a tiny bit in the tuna and see if that will work. They do get Orijen dry cat food but I want to get them on a wet diet. They won't eat any regular cat food either.
Lov ya Doc. Thank you so much I love my babies and you helped them live longer. thank you so much blessings to you
You are so kind, happy to help!
I make two pots at once. One pot of organic grass fed beef and the other is organic chicken and turkey together. Since I have a giant breed and I'm lazy, the double pots keep me from having to cook every day. I don't even cook for my husband! Love that Holistic Blend powder.
Thank you Barbara! Ginger is a lucky girl!
How long does it preserve for?
Sorry for the delay, our notifications weren't working. After cooking, the prepared diet can be refrigerated for 4 days. If feeding raw, the diet should be frozen in servings for up to 4 months and thawed out for each feeding thereafter. Cooked food can be refrigerated for up to 6 months.
@@HolisticVet So sorry, but I'm a bit confused. You said that, "After cooking, the prepared diet can be refrigerated for 4 days," but then you say that cooked food can be refrigerated for up to six months...HUH? What am I missing here?
@@MarriedWithChoppers I caught that too. There's no way cooked food will last 6 months in fridge, she must have meant freezer.
Super easy to do!! Thank you!

I just bought the senior premix and the fish oil! I am loving your cookbook and can’t wait to get started. My cat is 15 and does not have CKD yet but was wondering if you knew the approx phos levels in this? I try to keep her under 1.5% on a DMB if possible even tho her creatinine is only 1.3. Thank you for all you do!
Most recipes come in ranging from 0.53 (chicken and beef) to 0.88% total P (except for red meat ones, which are higher (about 1.1% P). I hope this helps and hoping your kitty loves the blends!
I’ve been wanting to try making homemade cat food for my two black Bombays (also known as: the voids). 😅, but I have always had a slight fear. Your videos gave me the peace of mind that I needed and thus recipe is so easy! My cats give it 2 paws up
As well. They love it! Thank you 🙏
I completely understand that making your own cat food can be a bit daunting at first, but I'm thrilled to hear that my recipe was easy to follow and gave you peace of mind. Your feedback means a lot to me.❤
I’m certainly going to purchase this and prepare my own cat food. Thank u for sharing.
Thanks! Let us know how it goes!
Just downloaded the recipe book. It looks amazing! I will make sure I put a review in. Do you have any recipes or what recipes in the book would he good for my cat with CKD? Thanks for this resource.
Hi there. I would avoid adding sardines as these add not only protein but use the omega-3's instead. This will only add healthy Omega-3 fatty acids. I also add a lot of bone broth and/or water to help. This is a maintenance diet. We do have a feline senior blend coming out. Stay tuned!
This looks fantastic. Thank you for posting! My wife and I are plant based but our cats are obviously obligate carnivores and we try to feed them the best we know how (and so far, they're very healthy). With the materials shortage (small cans) we can't get healthy cat foods (just the pet store junk) so I'll try your book and blend to get them onto a home made food diet. Any suggestions for transitions away from the store bought pate (that's what is available)?

Thank you Kim! Good luck with your kittens!
Hello, thanks for your video! Do you have another oil recommendation besides coconut or seed oils?
We recommend coconut oil or grass-fed ghee.
Hi, thanks sooo much for sharing. I’ve always wanted to cook my kitty’s food for a while now but got so overwhelmed at one point with all the million different supplements that’s needed to do it, I didn’t bother.
But after visiting the grocery store tonight and seeing the ridiculous raise in the price for wet food, I decided to research making the wet food again and I couldn’t be more thankful for coming across your video and website.
I’m really excited to make it for her and get her started on a healthier diet since she’s had a uti before. I’m gonna purchase your supplements and hopefully she likes it as she’s not that much of a picky eater.
I was wondering though, should this be fed twice a day or once? Or can I stick to kibbles in the morning and wet food at night? Not sure if I missed it in your cookbook.
Thanks so much!
Hi Lea. I would suggest trying to transition to all wet if possible. Your cat will be healthier for it. I would feed 2/3 in the AM and 1/3 in the PM. Or you could feed the lions share in the morning and just some kibbles to chase down for exercise at night. Let me know if you have any other questions! Good for you and good luck!
Oh my goodness! I just found you! I am so thankful! Could you do a video on cats and diarrhea? I just found my 2 yr old cat sitting in my bathtub next to (almost lemon yellow) water diarrhea liquid. It's more of a liquid and not very much of it.
Great suggestion! Hope your cat gets better
Thank You so much. I was looking for alternatives since one of my senior cats was diagnosed w/diabetes. Hill’s Vet Diet is outrageously expensive and now they’ve been out of stock for months.
Hi Denise. Have you had a chance to try the diet yet?
@@HolisticVet I did, the ground chicken mixed with a chicken liver. I added plain bone broth and pumpkin patch two teaspoons. Most of them liked it. Tomorrow I have glucose and fructosamine labs for Bear. Let’s see how it goes.
I wanted to start making my own cat food. I do appreciate the video. Love it
Go for it! You can download the free cookbook at www.holisticvetblend.com for more easy recipes like this.
Thank you so much!
Hope you get a chance to try it!
Hi so nice of you share this with us ☺ i want to ask what kind of ingredients that i should avoid for my cat that have history of struvite?
Hi Syara. First and foremost avoid kibble. If your veterinarian recommended a prescription diet I highly recommend it be canned. You'll have to monitor your cat along the way with any diet changes for recurrence of the crystals.
This looks like a great, easy cat food. I also am ordering the extras to add to the mix. I cn not see any of your replies to the questions and not sure why that is? Now there seems to be a glitch in any stores in the US getting canned cat food, so I think this will. be
much healthier. Hope he will eat it. I will be so happy if he does.
Thank you, looks good
Hope you enjoy
Hello .. amazing video .. I am from Jordan (Middle East) I feed stray cats around the building where I live .. the number is increasing and I feel responsible when I see them waiting for me to feed them .. I also help a friend in another area who also feeds cats in her area .. I wanted to learn about homemade recipes to control the budget .. and avoid lacking of some brands in Jordan which cats might get attached to and it is hard to find a good and healthy replacement

You're most welcome!
Are you able to do a tutorial on or share a cooked ground pork recipe for cats? My vet recommended BalanceIT for supplements since there’s a known poultry allergy and suspected beef allergy, and recommended a tiny addition of sweet potato, but I’m curious if you have a pre-mix or suggestion that could help?!
Our blend does have New Zealand grass fed beef organ meat in it.
Thank you!
Khesa. Thank you for being here!
How do you feel about adding ground flaxseed or ground eggshell to your recipes? I’ve heard eggshell is a great source of calcium and is easily digestible for cats.
Hi, sorry for the delay, our notifications weren't coming through. There is calcium in the premix. You do not need to add additional calcium. Dogs and cats are not able to metabolize fatty acids from flaxseed to DHA efficiently (at best a small percentage) as we are. So they need it in the form of Omega-3 from fish body oils.
Thanks!
You are more than welcome!

After cooking, the prepared diet can be refrigerated for 4 days. If feeding raw, the diet should be frozen in servings for up to 4 months and thawed out for each feeding thereafter. Cooked food can be refrigerated for up to 6 months.
Thank you for this video. Can you comment on whether you should feed the cat this split 4 times per day or whether you should fit the cat this combined with any other food during the day?
Hi, I'm so sorry for the delay, our notifications weren't coming through. I feed my cats twice daily. The early meal is 2/3 of their requirement and the evening meal is 1/3. They do not need to be fed more frequently unless they are kittens. I feed kittens 3-4 times per day and fade the afternoon feedings after 6-8 months.
Thank you for the video...
Welcome!
So many veterinarians and dog nutrition experts in these comments 😂 I especially love the ones saying “you should really talk to a vet!” You’re much kinder than I would be if I went to Cornell and had 30+ years experience working as a vet. You are also the ONLY vet or pet nutritionist I have found who GIVES away knowledge with no catch, no hidden fees. On top of this you can read the total break down of her products on her site without purchasing anything. Thank you for all you share! Also, I’ve wanted to ask if when adding sardines to the recipe once it’s cooled you chop/blend them up? Thank you!
Why thank you!! I try to mix them in so they tend to break up on their own.

Hi welcome to our channel! I’m hoping my upcoming videos will bring more inspiration and learnings to you.
I,m trying to learn to make this. Its hard to get catfood, and it doesn,t look right sometimes. Afraid to feed it to her. Yours has got to be what they need. I,ve questioned the safety of some of her food. So glad you posted this. Shes 16. She does love raw chicken
You can prepare the diet raw but lightly cooked is what I prefer for my seniors.
My cats loves your recipes. 😂😂😂they are on their hind legs just yeowling 😂😂😂so cute
That is so great to hear! I am glad my videos are being helpful. You can also visit my website holisticvetblend.com to download my free cookbook for more recipes.
Our 9 month old kitten is not doing well on commercial food. Our vet suspects IBS. She did reasonably ok with Hills wet, but with shortages, we can’t always get it. I’d like to try this and see if it’s good for possible IBS issues.
You can chose a novel protein that your cat does not usually get. For example turkey, venison, or bison. Check with your veterinarian first of course.
No cat food on shelves, I will use this recipe. Ground turkey would work well too. Thanks
I've been making raw cat food for about 6 years using Alnutrin egg shell supplement due to 2 elderly cats having ckd. Would this supplement be appropriate for them? I also use a phosphorus binder in their food.
I used to feed at least 3 different proteins, but slowly, but surely they've all stopped liking chicken and turkey and only 1 will consistently eat lamb. So now I'm down to just pork. I've tried lightly cooking the chicken and making a pate, but they definitely turn their nose up at that. Thinking I didn't introduce it slow enough for them. So glad I found your channel. With everything going up in price, I'm nervous about keeping a good supply of food for them. I have emergency backup canned food and yes, some dry foods. If things get really, really bad, I wanted something for backup in case of emergencies(like the electricity going out during storms or power grid issues). I was thinking dehydrating some whole food like your recipe could be a good storage solution that wouldn't require a freezer.
We do have a senior blend coming out shortly. It has added B vitamins and fiber. You can add additional water to the recipe. Will your cat eat a renal diet? It's recommended if they are beyond IRIS Stage 1. But if they won't you can try mixing it with our blend. The senior blend will be out in 6-8 weeks.
@@HolisticVet unfortunately, they won't.
Is it okay to store the Icelandic fish oil and the premix in the refrigerator? Thank you!
Hi Nancy! Yes you can store it in the refrigerator :)

Welcome!!
Where do you get the omega3 and other ingredients other than regular grocery items?
My cats waste half the food I buy, love the gravey but leave the bits.
Hi Jeff, you can purchase the omega-3 fish oil and the premix on our website www.holisticvetblend.com and we also have a free cookbook for cats that you can download for more recipes.
Can I use Flax Oil for my Omega 3's for my cat? I use it for my dogs and happen to have it on hand. Thanks. :)
Cats and dogs are very inefficient at getting DHA and EPA from flax oil. They may only get a very small fraction as opposed to humans who are more efficient at the conversion. It would be much better for you to use wild caught fish.
Thank you for sharing the recipe! I want to try this for my cat who has small cell lymphoma. Can it help with gaining weight and reduce diarrhea?
I'm so sorry for the delay, our notifications weren't coming through. Many cats with chronic diarrhea have done very well on the diet. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. I would introduce it gradually though.
So I've got alot of cats that I take care of. I'd like to make these recipes in bulk. I'm assuming I just triple the recipes and freeze. How long do they stay good in the freezer?
After cooking, the prepared diet can be refrigerated for 4 days. If feeding raw, the diet should be frozen in servings for up to 4 months and thawed out for each feeding thereafter. Cooked food can be refrigerated for up to 6 months.
In the feline feeding guide ,cups to feed, is that onece a day?
It's per day. You can split in to two or three meals.
Thank you for sharing the recipe.I have one cat but i cannot cook everyday due to busy schedule,If I cook a big batch like yours how long i can store it in the refrigerator?
I would refrigerate for 3-4 days. The rest I freeze in muffin tins. After they freeze I pop them out and put in a container if I want to batch for a few weeks.
Hi there, I'm always trying to find a healthy, easy recipe for my kitties that is affordable. I live on a very limited income & i try to.keep my kitties on as much wet food as possible & added water so you can guess whos eating the best in my home. I have a BIG cat family, some are rescues looking for homes but the are all voracious eaters. Meanwhile, let's say 10 kitties need fed with your recipe & supplements. About how much am I looking at per month? I have the cookbook downloaded & am ready to get started. Oh yes! What chicken do you use/purchase in this video & do you use a grinder to render it as its shown here? Thanks
Unfortunately, I can't estimate the monthly cost of feeding your furry family members. It highly depends on where you buy from, if you buy in bulk, the price, etc. We currently don't sell canisters in bulk, but it's on our list! For now, it might be a good option to feed a combination. Your best bet is to buy meat in bulk. I use chicken thighs and grind them myself. I primarily use ground turkey though as it's easier to find. My favorite grind is 2 pounds of ground chicken thighs and 1 pound of ground beef heart.
I'm sure my cat would love this and looks easy. But I have a question. (I made a raw cat food for a late cat--decades ago--it was a huge mess, but he did thrive several years after he was supposed to die). In the formula I used., you added human grade bone meal or egg shell. I do see a calcium supplement--is that to take the place of the bone? Thanks.
Yes, there is added calcium.
Hi, I was wondering if you could answer this question for me. My 5 year old ginger cat has a food intolerance or allergy and was put on hydrolyzed protein dry food and he’s still vomiting his food right after his meal. I have been trying raw diet for the last week, I mix it with his dry kibbles and he’s still not digesting it. Should I continue with raw food only? I bought it at the pet store. Thank you very much 🥰
Hi there. I'm not sure I would go with raw. Could you try lean ground turkey with the HVB recipe? You can lightly cook it.
Just made 3qts of Venison/egg recipe for our two new kittens. Very simple
Yes. I hope your cats love it!
@@HolisticVet They have been eating the venison recipe since we got them at 7weeks old. They are now 5 months old and thriving. Super soft coats.
Need to order more mix here soon 👍
Does the ground chicken include the fat and skin? Im going to be grinding my own. Thanks!
You can grind up the meat with the skin.
How do we get your cookbook and where is the sold
You can download it for free on my website holisticvetblend.com/ !
After making large batch. I put in sealed container in refrigerator. Should I skim off fat from top tomorrow before vacuum sealing for long term?
Sorry for the delay, our notifications weren't coming through. I would mix it in well. The fat has nutrients as well.
Does this prevent bladder and kidney stones ?
How long can I keep the cooked chicken mix in the fridge? Thanks
4-5 days.
My 3 boys are naturally very large but have sensitive stomachs. Do you happen to have a sort of guide for the amount of this food they should eat?
Hi Mary. There is a feeding guide in the cookbook. Did you get a chance to download it from the website? It's www.holisticvetblend.com.
The premix doesn’t include Vitamin A which some products say cats need. But I wouldn’t know how much to put in. Can you advise?
There is Vitamin A in abundance in the grass fed beef liver.
Will this recipe help my cat who has loose stool? I was thinking he needed more fiber. Very helpful video!
I have had very good feedback on it improving stool quality.
Hi, is there any other supplement/vitamin you would recommend adding outside of your blend for optimal cat health?
krill oil, Taurine, multivitamins ground up eggshell
No need to add vitamin supplements with a healthy diet :)
One of my cats have a fish allergy or I suspect a fish allergy. Is it absolutely necessary for fish oil or is there another way to get omega 3. Also for keeping cost down how else can you get the right vitamins if I can't buy the premix vitamins?
You can use krill oil. It would require using tiny amounts of trace minerals and Vitamins that are not even measureable unfortunately.
Hi! I was wondering how many times a day you feed your cats? 2 times a day, 3? If I were to feed my cat 1/2 a cup per your guide in the book, would that be 1/2 a cup in total or 1/2 a cup per feeding? Thank you in advance!
Ya id like to know more about how much to feed and storage/shelf life.
Hi. May I ask how much minced chicken did you use in this recipe and how many meals does it add up to for an adult cat?
This recipe makes 3-5 days of food for the average cat and begins with 1 pound of meat and optional add ins. Check out the cookbook available for free on our website.
Thanks for this video..My cat is sensitive and allergic and it is hard to find healthy cat food for her.
Hope you get a chance to try it!
Curious how you suggest to store. In the fridge up to a week? Do you reheat it ever or just serve straight cold with no problems. I'm asking because I want to give better quality diet as I have a slightly overweight kitty and he smells, unlike my other kitties.
A week might be a bit long. Four days at most? I freeze portions, enough for three days in one box. Get plate, spoon out cat food for one meal, microwave twenty seconds. That gets the smell going and melts the gravy/juices. Adjust time for your microwave. Cats will be begging! 😸
I'm so sorry for the delay, our notifications weren't coming through. My guideline is after cooking, the prepared diet can be refrigerated for 4 days. If feeding raw, the diet should be frozen in servings for up to 4 months and thawed out for each feeding thereafter. Cooked food can be refrigerated for up to 6 months.
@@sjames9036 Thanks so much for answering, I'm glad you have found what works for your microwave. I hope your cat is enjoying the food!
My cats like it a bit chunky but ill make sure to cook the meats properly, thank you for the recipe

I always get confused with what vitamins I need to add. I add omega 3, all the vitamin B’s and taurine powder. Is this right?
Hi there! Yes our holistic vet blend omega-3 fish oil and feline premix that contains vitamin B and taurine powder.
can you add some veggies (like squash or carrots) to this? my cat is around 16 yo and she keeps throwing up from store bought dry food (my mother refuses to allow her to eat wet food but this might be a better alternative i think) and i want her to have a diverse but healthy diet
Hi there! Yes you can add veggies on it. You can also download our cookbook for more homemade recipes www.holisticvetblend.com. Also, I really do not like feeding cats dry food. It is really terrible for them. So many issues with dry. You can try using our recipes for senior cars and let us know how it goes :)
I hope this works. My 16yo has stopped eating about 2wks ago. If my vet looks over the product link and gives me the green light, I will be more than happy to try them out and hopefully my cat will be on board too 🤞🏼
I thought he was mad at me bc I left him home for a couple days while I spent time away at Christmas. He has kidney issues and his vet put him on Hill Prescription Diet, which was fine for the past few months, but he refuses to eat it now. I tried his old food Iiams which he also ignores. I tried straight tuna which he won’t eat but will drink the liquid. I baked him plain chicken breast today and he actually ate up a serving of it! Hallelujah! I know he needs more than that but I’m taking the win for now that he’s actually eating something. He has a vet appointment next week which was the earliest they can get them in because of all the Covid policies that make appointments more difficult. So hopefully we can get him to eat and be healthy again 🙏🏼
You can add more water to the food and blend it in. Perhaps you can blend in a little of the kidney diet as well. Of course, check in with your vet who knows your specific situation but it is critical that they eat. Another trick is to drain the juice from sardines in water (I get at Trader Joe's) or tuna juice and drizzle over the food. Good luck with your senior baby!
Hope your kittie is okay xx
@@BonesAndButtons Thank you but he passed in his sleep two days after the vet appointment 💔

There is a feeding guide in the cookbook downloadable from www.holisticvetblend.com
Do you use extra virgin coconut oil? I know that lighter blends have less of a flavor.
I buy organic virgin coconut oil in bulk from Costco.
Would you recommend this is the only thing we feed the cats? I assume so just fully switch to this about once a day or twice a day? How many ounces of food do you feed your cat?
Hi Nate. There's a feeding guide for your cat's weight. My youngsters get more than my seniors.
Hi there, I am trying to contact you concerning an order I placed on your website but cannot find a link for that.
Hi Juli. We'd be happy to help you. We aren't finding you in the system, could you please contact us at holisticvetblend@gmail.com. Thank you.
What about taurine? Is it in the premix?
Yes, taurine is added to the premix. The premix also has a grass-fed beef heart which is an excellent source of taurine.
Do you add Taurine to the food?
Yes. And the grass fed beef heart is also a good source.
What is your opinion on raw food for cats vs cooked food?
I'm sorry for the delay, our notifications weren't coming through. There are a few studies that show feeding raw may strengthen a cats immune system. There are many studies that show pathogens in raw food unfortunately. For this reason many veterinarians are opposed to raw feeding. I lightly cook what I feed to my cats.
Tried twice to download your free cookbook. Each time it tells me an error has occurred and to try again later. Is your cookbook still available?
Hi, Yes, it's still available. Kindly send an email to info@holisticvetblend.com
How long can I keep this in the fridge for? Or do I freeze it?
4-5 days. Freeze what you will not use.
Hello, I have a 9 month old cat who has been battling cystitis since he was 5 months old. We have his symptoms under control will hills prescription urinary as well as transdermal amitriptyline daily. He has recently started refusing to eat his wet food and as soon as he gets the dry prescription food he starts to have brown/ bloody urine again. Is this diet safe for a cat with urinary issues?
It's tough when urinary issues start so early on. I would check with your veterinarian about mixing in another food. With their approval, you may be able to choose something that makes the most sense based on their history especially if there was crystalluria present. Struvite crystals form in an alkaline environment and oxalate crystals form in an acidic environment. If your cat has hemorrhagic cystitis not related to crystals you could prepare the food and mix it with the canned prescription diet. Whatever you do you must monitor for crystals along the way if they were present. It's a major worry if you have a male cat especially. Really try to avoid dry food.
as you take it out of the fridge do you just heat it with microwave?
You can warm it or add some warm water to it.
My senior cat (15), has been on CD Rx cat food for a long time. Can i change him to a homemade holistic cat food (like in your video)?
Tough question. I avoid dry food completely with all cats especially cats with crystals. You have to monitor your cat any time you make a diet change for a cat that has had crystals. This is a tough one to answer as there is no easy answer.
Is there a vitamin powder that we can purchase that has the following :
Taurine.
Wild Salmon Oil or Wild Caught Small Fish Oil.
Vitamin E.
Vitamin B-Complex.
Psyllium Husk Powder.
Hello Azar. Our senior blend is coming out shortly and has all of the above. Omega-3's should be added separately. Our feline blend has all of the above and Psyllium husk. Stay tuned on our website. You can sign up for a free cookbook and be alerted when the senior blend comes out!
@@HolisticVet ok I’ll be waiting . Just curious if we’re feeding a balanced diet why the need for supplements .
Hi can I just boil the chicken? or does it have to be cooked w/ coconut oil?
Yes, you can. Coconut oil is mainly known for maintaining proper diet and healthy coat that is why I cooked pet food with it.
my cat has a extremely sensitive stomach and a history with life threatening uti’s, would yu recommend this recipe or something different?
Hi Addi. For sure I recommend wet food. You could do either the feline blend or the mature/senior blend and add a cup of water so there is plenty of water for hydration. If you are talking about bacterial infections that is different from crystals in the urine. If there are crystals you have to monitor your cat on whatever diet they are eating to make sure the crystals are not forming. Your veterinarian will monitor the pH of the urine and the type of crystals present. You should also be doing periodic checks of your cats urine if they are always getting UTI's and make sure they do not have a stone or some reason why they keep happening. That would require and ultrasound of the bladder. I would ask your veterinarian about an ultrasound if it keeps happening.
How long can I prepare and store it in the refrigerator?
4 days and freeze the rest.
