Rare Lake in Death Valley's Badwater Basin! Plus Mesquite Dunes & Other Hotspots!

- Hurricane Hilary brought about a rare phenomenon in Death Valley- Badwater Basin being under water! When this occurs, this area is called Lake Manly. The salt flats of Badwater Basin are formed by this occurring and then evaporating (since the water has nowhere to drain), leaving behind the mineral content from the runoff that led to the water body's formation. This body of water doesn't happen often, so it's special to get to experience it while it's here.

I love the shots of the plants and all of the little things you have to take time to notice. I may not ever visit there but I felt like I was there watching this. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Amber! I love to savor the little things that are so easy to overlook!!
I have a lot of fond memories of visits to Death Valley. I used to car camp at Texas Springs and Furnace Creek.
Awesome! It’s such a cool place!
The colors are amazing ! The beat time to be there is on the cloudy day .
Thank you! Yes, I agree, the clouds make things so much more interesting!
How beautiful! What an amazing video. It’s so cool you got the opportunity to see this rare occurrence. You certainly took some beautiful shots. It’s always interesting how colors are different in wet winter conditions. Thx for sharing!
Thank you! It's such a neat contrast from what it looked like when we were here before!
Loved this video - loved the filming style, the music, the amazing scenery! Death Valley has never been on my radar, but it is now.
Thank you! It's SUCH a cool place!! There is so much variety, and of course, this lake being there makes it extra special right now!
I was there this past weekend. It was amazing! My mother in law lives in Mojave so it wasn’t too much of a drive for us.
How awesome! It's such a special thing to get to see while it's here!
5:44 nice shot! So is 1:12 Had no idea there were so many colorful cactus over there.
It's kinda crazy how much life there really is in the desert! It's a remarkable place!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Pretty Cool. Do that traveling while young! 💜
We try! We do as much traveling as possible!
Great video!!! Looks like a very magical place 💫
Aw, thanks Wren! I think you’d love it!!
We were there in December! It’s spectacular ❤😊
RIght?? Such a cool thing to get to see! I'm glad you got to see it, too!
Oh my gosh, thank you for showing us this. I love how you take us on your journeys and big love for how "real" you are.
I so appreciate that! 🫶
So fascinating. I know death valley formation is way more ancient than the Suwannee River Basin basin ,where i explore , which is just nuts to me and amazing! To feel and touch something so old never gets ...old 😂 I'm a fossil rock hound nut. Florida is amazing for that but i so wanna visit out west.
Also i adore the footage of you walking into the lake. Its got that sense of uniqueness where you know it's a rare thing to do and soak it all in 💙
If you ever want some info on freshwater springs and hiking around North Florida and the Suwannee River Basin I'd love to yo reccomend some spots. 💙 And ✌🏼 to you in your travels! Happy to have found your videos.
Thank you so much! I really want to check out Everglades and some of the springs and such I've seen online in Florida. It looks so different from what I'm used to!
We really do have some really fascinating spots to check out this way. We recently visited Montezuma Well in Arizona and saw fossilized leaves! So cool!
The geology in DVNP is truly incredible. I highly recommend a visit when you're able!
Wow how beautiful thank you so much for sharing . This makes me want to head down to death valley!!!!
I hope you can! It's SO beautiful! Even without Lake Manly, Death Valley is such a cool and unique place! I still need to edit our prior trip there! 😂
Great video! You really captured some stunning scenery. I live in New mexico, and I had no idea it was so beautiful. 😊 💜
If you ever get the chance to go, take it! Death Valley has SO much uniqueness to see! We only had part of a day on this trip, but I really want to go spend more time and discover more.
The road is passable now going in and out of park especially from hwy 395? Planning to head there this week.
We didn’t go in from that direction, but the Cal Trans app will always be your best resource for up-to-date road conditions. Enjoy your trip!
What did the ground feel like barefoot in the lake?
Some of it felt gritty and firm, and some of it felt really silty and my feet would sink in. I showed both here because it really did vary widely. Walking outside the lake on the salt looked like walking on melting snow, except not slick at all!
Are any blooms in the valley ?
There were a few desert golds when we went, but not much aside from those. Hopefully more soon!
It is underwater because it was before!
Yup, that’s how it formed! Looks like the last time it was under water was 2005!
You two are adorable. Yay lesbians!
Aw, thank you! We have something really special! 🥰🫶🏳️🌈
