    OK I am being picky but: Ernest Rutherford was from New Zealand NOT England. It wasn't around 1911, it was 1911. Rutherford didn't do the experiment as scintillation was annoying and made him swear. Gieger and Marsden did the experiments. The experiment that inspired Rutherford was conducted on a suggestion by Rutherford in 1909. He did not do it to understand the atom he did it to give Marsden some busywork. Also, the 360 degree experiment wasn't conducted until 1913. Rutherford wasn't expecting the pudding model was wrong. He assumed it was correct and was dumbstruck that it wasn't. Finally, it wasn't a circular florescent screen it was a microscope with a florescent cover that was moveable in 360.

    The Thomson model said that: " Most of the alpha particles won't deflect, and some would deflect by small angles. "
    The Rutherford model said that:" Most of the alpha particles passed without deflection, and some were deflected by small angles."
    I think that both of them said the same thing. Though we know that the Thomson model wasn't correct, but still, didn't Rutherford and Thomson model say the same thing?

    • @rudrarain8343
      @rudrarain8343 3 роки тому +3

      No brother! Thomson's model said that the electrons are distributed in positive sphere (protons) ,if it was the case in real, then the alpha rays (heavy, energetic and positive) would cross the atom and only very small deflections could be shown because there are protons as well (as positive charges repel). BUT! The experiment showed very large deflections and very few alpha particles rebounded (which can't be possible according to Thomson's model) THEREFORE, it proves there is a positively charged nucleus in an atom. Still it is a hypothesis, no one has seen these things!😉

    2:57 For all the students that are confused including me . I think maybe its a mistake in the video because as far as I know before this experiment Rutherford expected that most of the alpha particles would deflect or bounce back because of the JJ Thomson plum pudding model.
    Expectations:
    1. Because if JJ Thomson model was right then, the proton sphere of the atom would repel the alpha particles because the alpha particles were positive and we all know that +ve +ve repels each other.
    Reality:
    But, JJ Thomson model was later proved wrong by the Rutherford model of the atom.

    • @b.laZ.e
      @b.laZ.e Рік тому +7

      Sorry for a late reply, however, you got the wrong information. As per specific beliefs and datas, Rutherford actually had the anticipation that the alpha ray particles would go through the mellable metal (Gold), but to this surprise, some deflected while some bounced back! I hope this helped! ❤

    • @ajax_boi8720
      @ajax_boi8720 Рік тому +2

      Because his master assumed atom to be a plumpudding model,so he assumed that positively and negatively charged particles are uniformly distributed throughout the atom therefore he thought the alpha particles would directly pass through the foil ( as protons are uniformly distributed)

    • @arunaxyz
      @arunaxyz Рік тому

      well i read that he thought either they all will not pass cuz the plum pudding model was all positive on the outside or they would pass because the alpha rays has enough energy to pass through.

    • @hbplayz4428
