Thank you. I will have to watch this several times before I am able to do this. I let it run out of gas because I didn't have the money for more gas. The truck has been sitting since May 2021 - now October 2021 because no one will help me. Being a widow now for 3 years I have learned there is no one out here who wants to deal with helping. So, I am having to fast speed learn to work on my own vehicle. My husband used to do all the mechanic work. He was extremely gifted and talented in the auto paint and body and mechanic business. Anything about vehicles he knew how to do. I miss him.
Where are you Adele? If you’re anywhere near me I’m coming to help you girl!!! I’m in the same boat kinda…I have a so called man that doesn’t want to help me…I am to cook clean and all the things in between but I’m not supposed to ask him for help. Men are just not what they used to be that’s for sure!!!!
I'm base San Bernardino California if you are near me I can help you, I even had been teaching my wife and teenagers to do their own maintenance to our cars just in case one day my lord calls on me in that way they can relied on them selves or as a tribe as always.
175k miles on my Delphi pump. 350k miles on 04 Venture van 3.4 original motor trans uses no oil. Amazing runs like new!!! I cut a hatch to change easy on road. Ten minutes to change pump.
Cut a hole in the truck bed and change the pump in about 15 minutes and no lift needed. If I could afford a new truck and the pump went out , I would still cut the hole in the bed. They should have made a plate in the beds at the factory to make changing the pump simple.
I did this by myself on a 2003 f-350 6.0 in a wal mart parking lot down in Georgia. I was living in the truck transporting and was broke as hell. I was trying to figure out why it was having performance problems. Turns out about a year later I figured out it was the wiring harness in the transmission. I had mechanics all across the nation looking at it and testing it and none of them ever said anything about the wiring harness in the transmission. Oh, what fun times those were.
I just did the fuel pump today, started better then before. Runs great, I also did the spark plugs & wires and she runs better then before also. My trucks lifted pretty high so I can sit under with good clearance and look around. I used to tie straps to hood gas tank from falling so that worked for me. Also my gauge works better now and doesn't jump from empty to where ever gas level is at.
Well doc, I can relate on the hair issue. It's good to hear you give God the praise he deserves no matter what we do for a living. God bless you my friend.
Great job.. I'm about to do my 3500 GMC .... I have to do mine in the parking lot... but first I'm going to beat it up gently.... 😂.. just for the hell of it....I've got fuel pumps to work after a gentle Ass Kicking.... get it started and let someone like this Guy to fix it right.. thank you Sir.... thank you for Video... Blessings my friend for teaching us quality on how to do it ourselves🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great work! Nice safety information before video for those who might not be aware. Very dangerous around fuel, especially vapors. Very well spoken, knowledgeable. Thanks for putting out quality, professional videos. God Bless you too my brother.
Great video! I was all set to bring my truck in to you. Then I visited your channel and saw that you're way up there in Alaska. You sound like a really good honest person. I've done a fuel pump one time in an F-150. Now I'm deciding if I can do it in a Chevy Express. Subscribed...
12:28 For everyone out there, don't make my mistake. Be sure to connect the ground wire bc I had my pump go bad in freezing weather. On top of which I was traveling to a dif state. So I did all the work in AutoZone parking lot laying in the snow and freezing weather. So before putting truck bed back on and reinstalling, of course I'd test it. But didn't work and I went thru about 4 brand new pumps, including having to rewire a couple. It was super bowl Sunday and I was late, I was fkn pissed- of all days it had to be. Finally a guy passing by asked me if I had the ground connected to the bed frame or panel by gas nozzle. Nope. Totally didn't realize I needed it connected. I thought it was for electrical surge protector. Started right up. Just a simple wire coming from an area I didn't think important caused me so much grief. So don't forget about it. In Silverado the wire that comes by the gas inlet tube.
Great Job Buddy!!! I enjoyed your video and your humor! Thank you very much for your instructions. I've never done this before and we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your prayers!!!
I just did this on my 2010 Silverado. All I can say is that if you can get your bed bolts out and lift the bed up, that is 100% the way to go. Fortunately, my neighbor has a steel frame that we could use to span the width of the bed and lift the bed off the frame. I did that, disconnected a couple of connectors from the rear lights, pulled forward, and had easy access to the top of the tank. The connectors from the fuel line and evap lines were so corroded at the pump module end that they wouldn't come out and broke at the module. I ended up replacing both of those lines. Because of the heavy corrosion on the top of the module, I bought the lock ring removal tool I don't think I could have removed the lock ring without it.
Yes I watched your fuel pump assembly on a Silverado pickup it was very informative and very professionally done and thank you for making this video available keep up the good work
Man! i really enjoyed ur video.Really liked the verbal instructions. You use the perfect words.YOU WANT TO TREAT THIS WITH RESPECT.Loved that.Gracias Maestro.!!
nice job doc; I have an 05 Silverado 1500 that I purchased and now restoring my pump pressure is 55 lbs at the injectors so I will not use the new spare fuel pump in the tank at this time. Completed a complete upper engine gasket replacement and part cleaning. Also new injectors , plugs, and wires were installed. She purrs like a new truck. Berryman B12 in the tank once in awhile helps to clean remaining unknown in the fuel system. Thanks for such informative video's - they help allot ....
Just did one yesterday in a couple hours and it was pretty easy, I dropped the tank without a lift and didn’t do it exactly this way, I removed as little as possible
Car Doc, I liked your video! Really liked your ending mentioning the Lord. He does indeed help and bless mechanics who trust him! I'm having someone else do my replacement, but wanted to see what it entailed. Thank you! I'm not sure if my mechanic will lift the bed or drop the tank. He does not have a two post hoist like you, but he's a skinny guy.
great video! only think I would add is that you can pull your fuel pump fuse, start the vehicle and let it die so when you disconnect the fuel lines, you don't have any fuel under pressure.
Love the way you show up on camera and say what you're doing! Awesome video buddy! I'm going to try and use my shop vac like you did! And buddy you're hilarious! God bless you to!
Very informational, used this for my 2003 chevy silverado 1500. Lifted the back side of the truck near the fuel tank to work under it. To get the tank back on however I had some help from my dad. He used a rim and metal pipe to help me lift the tank. Some advice would be to empty out as much gas as possible to make it easier to re-install.
Wow.I can't believe how cool it would be work on vehicles that aren't disintegrating. What a difference. Please make a video doing this on 10+ year old Wisconsin truck. lol
Try doing this job to a 1995 completely rusted out!! I cut a square hole in my bed and the gas lines were welded rusted together. I managed to take out the assembly without disconnecting the fuel lines. Wasnt easy but I did it!! Bent everything to get it out of the tank. Job complete!! Booya!!
thanks man. ignore the haters here. i know most DIYrs only want to see whats involved in the process and now how to bitch about you having a professional garage. thank you again
It's better to remove the bed... because when u install the pump u can turn the truck on and see if it's running properly....vs installing the gas tank again and finding out u pinched a connector lolz
I think this might solve the problem with my 99 K 1500. would really help me out is when you said ''pushing the gas kills'' it. that's exactly what my truck is doing. also when you noted ''letting it idle will let it build up and run better'' it does that as well. I use my truck for work and this specific truck I just acquired in a trade for an 08 Cobalt which I'm completely too big for LOL. Thank you for your information God bless and I'll keep an eye out for more helpful videos from me.
With All Due Respect: If you want to avoid the Hazards and trouble of having to drop the Fuel Tank. May I suggest... See video on using the Tilting Your Truck bed method. Worked for me.
I have an 04 1500 ..and might pursue that method ..however ..my bed is a heavy utility truck bed ..and the weight is much higher and makes it virtually impossible to ‘tilt’ the bed ..thinking of cutting an access panel tho ..I have the tools to get that done ..and once I have access ..this is a 20 minute job start to finish ..
So I just wanted to say that I really liked your words of wisdom at the end Brother. I can see it in your heart that you are truly a man of God. I would like to ask that if might pray for me. I recently lost my job and I have lots of anxiety lately, I feel like I'm drifting away from God & Having a hard time seeking His will along with my purpose. But the reason I'm watching this is that I need to replace the fuel pump on my wife's 03 chevy suburban 5.3 because the gas gauge don't. I think the pump may also be weak and causing a P0300 multiple cylinder miss plus the engine light flashes when driving sometimes. It also sometimes bogs down and even back fires a bit. You can definitely feel a miss in the engine but other times it seems to actually drive and run good. I already replaced the plugs and wires to fix a cylinder 3 miss which the plus was fouled and smelled like gas. I plan to test the fuel pressure but without a good scan tool I really can't do a proper diagnosis. Would you have any tips or tricks to do some other basic tests or even tell me the best way to do the fuel pump while truck is on the ground? Also would you supect anything could be wrong with the fuel injectors, rail or even regulator? Once again brother thanks and God's Blessings to you. Ron.
Excellent video and presentation. Installation instructions were easy to understand and follow. I appreciate you making this video and your emphasizes on safety. I own a 2000 chevy silverado 1500, the fuel sending level sensor is not operating as it should. Again, thank you for making the video. Sincerely, Will Do
alright Doc. very informative! i liked that you dropped the tank. this is the first vid. of yours I've seen. i look forward to more. you have a great personality!! i have a 98 1500 to change tomorrow. THANKS DOC.
Thank you! Lifting the bed is cool but people need to be careful and support it properly before getting under such a heavy thing. Its easy to drop the tank if you have the ground clearance. If I didn't have a lift im afraid my gut wouldn't fit under the truck to do that. haha Good luck!
Great Job! Very Helpful. One little tip, although I know you like to live dangerously, I would recommend wearing safety glasses when blowing the debris off of the tank and or disconnecting the pressurized fuel lines. Just sayin'. Again, very helpful and nice job on this video. Two Thumbs Up!
+Dale Ellerbe Thank you for the reminder to be safe. I often overlook the importance of safety when trying to get the job done and it's never worth the risk. Thanks also for watching. Please visit again soon!
I appreciate your instruction and blessing, was thinking about cutting out an access panel in the bed of my 98 c3500 5.7 vortec and accessing from the bed, (always enjoy working from the bed) . Already pulled the liner out, but my daughters mechanic boy friend advised against cutting metal above a gas tank, he suggested the raise the bed method. Guess I should have been changing those fuel filters a little more often.
bill parker changing filters likely wouldn't have helped. Just a Chevy thing with bad pumps and wiring. The bed tilt deal is easy if you don't have rusted bolts. Just be sure to add safety support before working under a lifted bed so you don't get squished.
To me it was faster n more simple to disconnect the cables from the bed n bolts then just pick the left side of the bed n u get lots of clearance to get to the fuel pump. If u don't have a lift
On the side of the road with a dead pump. Watching video waiting for tow. Good video and thanks. I probably would have missed the ground wire and some cuss words spent.
Good video. Can I suggest to run the engine with the fuel pump fuse pulled to depressurize the system, stuff a rag in the filler neck will keep dust and nuts out. Thanks
Well done.... spreading the blessings :-) Your tip about the shop vac sucking up gas fumes was enlightening; I've used a vac but never thought about the fumes! So thanks!
Thank you. This is how I always changed them in all my vehicles through the years. I couldn't find a video that showed any way to do it except by removing the bed. I thought what a stupid engineering design. I was about to cut a hole in the bed since we have a bed liner.
Thanks for making this video. Next time you might want to wear safety glasses... lot of dirt coming down into your eyes. I'm not familiar with the tool that removed a line. Hope I can get by without it.
MY TRANS JACK LOOKS TO BE JUST LIKE YOURS. MINE WITH THE CAR UP HIGH ENOUGH FOR WALKING UNDER IS ACTUALLY ABOUT 4 TO 6 INCHES TOO SHORT EVEN ON TRANS WORK. I FINELY BOUGHT A TANK ADAPTER FOR IT AND THAT ADDS THE RIGHT HEIGHT TO IT. THE ONE I GOT LOOKS LIKE THE JEGS 79011 EXCEPT MINE HAS ALL CLEVIS PINS FOR QUICK ADJUSTMENT AND AT 90 BUCKS IT'S WAY WELL WORTH IT. THIS FROM A GUY THAT DOES NOT SPEND MONEY NEEDLESSLY. I WOULD NOT BUY THE HIGHER DOLLAR ONES BECAUSE OF THE PRICE, BUT THIS FITS PRICE AND FUNCTION PERFECTLY. PLUS MINE CAME WITH 2 RATCHET STRAPS AND 2 GROUND WIRES FOR STATIC ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE. FOR EASE OF USE CAN'T BE BEAT. PAYS FOR ITSELF IN ONE JOB.
Great video but most of us dont have a hoist or the jack so one hour is out of the question, and most people who would have all that wouldnt need to watch this! But still a good guide for the backyard guy.
The Car Doctor ya its 8 degrees out here in michigan right now and mine just went out i have a garage and heat but a kerosene heater so thats out of the question...im just going to have to tough it out till the open gas part comes then no heat :(
Hey Car Doctor, you helped me over a year ago with my Merc Montego and now I'd like to ask about my 2005 Chrysler Town & Country if I may. About 6 months ago the left turn signal lamp would quit but the filaments (both) were still intact. One of the posts the filaments are attached to turns a very dark blue/black. The bulb when attached to a 12vdc power supply will work, but not in the car; left or right side. I have replaced the left turn signal fuse once; I've gone through about 7 bulbs in the last 2 months. Any idea why this happens? Apologies for using this video to comment on my Van.

Definitely way faster. Maybe took me 45 min

Well done.... spreading the blessings :-) Your tip about the shop vac sucking up gas fumes was enlightening; I've used a vac but never thought about the fumes! So thanks!
On my 06 yukon I chiseled (safer than a grinder) under back seat. Easiest pump change ever.
4:35 mechanic at its best
working on a chevy as im watching this video for and it is awesome thank you so much for posting this vid!
Thanks. Hope the Chevy turned out good for you. Take care.
thank you it worked out perfectly!!
Excellent!
🤣🤣🤣 people crying cause of a lift. Great video! You told them all the rifht steps. You can do this on the floor no problem with an empty tank
“I like to live dangerously” lmfao I know the feeling brother
More so when I was married , not so much now.
Thank you for the safety tips and how to remove the pump
I appreciate all you do brother! Keep it up!
Best video on fuel pumps I've ever seen..good job man !
I just noticed your subscriber count, way to go Tim!
Thanks Tim!
Thank you. This is how I always changed them in all my vehicles through the years. I couldn't find a video that showed any way to do it except by removing the bed. I thought what a stupid engineering design. I was about to cut a hole in the bed since we have a bed liner.
Hole in the bed would be quick and easy but leaves a bit of a mess after. Glad the vid was helpful. Thanks for watching
Watch 15:25 - about 17:00. Absolutely priceless! “My insurance is all paid up for my wife!” LOL
Great video! Just beware of static electricity using a shop vacuum really not a great idea and a good recipe for a fire!
Thank you, and God bless you too!
What a great dude you are!
Great job. Thanks for all your help.
2:20 "It’ll just chop your head off." No big deal. LOL!😂😂
I need to see how you re routed the filler neck back around the frame rails!...one mechanic to another i need you alive brotha!...take care be safe!
Beautiful night vision, great detail.
Dude swapped the pump out in my Silverado under an hour last weekend by just tilting the bed over
That's an option for sure. Good on you!
Thats what I did...took the bed off ...6 bolts and the plugs on the end of the bed
I wonder how many shops do it that way and still charge 4 hrs
Thanks for making this video. Next time you might want to wear safety glasses... lot of dirt coming down into your eyes.
I'm not familiar with the tool that removed a line. Hope I can get by without it.
WOW...Doc this has to be the funniest video you've made to date!! Great lessons and a great fix as always!!
Nice detailed tutorial Thanks for sharing your skills
Thanks!
Great video buddy!! Thank you and God bless!
What pump is that? Thank you. You're the coolest. I love watching your videos. I've learned allot. You're the man.
he said it was Delphi. He also said it was Delphi because he refuses to use anything but Delphi.
I appreciate you making this video. It really helped us out, thank you
4:34 I laughed to hard at this.
Great video man. Very helpful
Great video👍 I just finished helping out friend using this video, except on the ground.
You didn't have to lift it up?
Great video Car Doctor. I'll be performing this task Saturday morning.
Hope it goes smoothly. Thanks for dropping by!
I saw goldfish swimming around in the tank...
Geat video! Thank you. Was extremely helpful.
Thanks for the video with grate detail .you helped me today !
You do a really nice job making these instructional videos. Thanks.
Good stuff man stay blessed
What's the best way to change out the fuel lines on a 2005 chevy with 5.3
Great video but most of us dont have a hoist or the jack so one hour is out of the question, and most people who would have all that wouldnt need to watch this! But still a good guide for the backyard guy.
Good points. It's not a super quick job if you're laying on your back but if I wasn't so fat I bet I could knock it out in 1.5 hrs. Hehe
The Car Doctor ya its 8 degrees out here in michigan right now and mine just went out i have a garage and heat but a kerosene heater so thats out of the question...im just going to have to tough it out till the open gas part comes then no heat :(
Stay warm my friend
