    What strenght of Dyneema are you guys using as a shootig Line? 2mm? I use a 110cm Rob Allen gun with a 7mm/150cm shaft. Thanks for recomenndations.

    Dyneema is also a noticeable amount slower than mono, fine for slower moving fish but anything that is moving fast or flinches and reacts to the shot it can be problematic

      We have not found that with our Dyneema due to the tight weave, if anything it is faster. Obviously spear speed can vary pending the weave of the fiber. A soft weave will absorb (socked) with more water and add additional mass that the spear has to now drag with it.

      I have found the same thing. Here in Hawaii the fish are very active on the reef. If you have a heavier shaft the difference is minimal but for the lighter 6.5 mm shafts mono is definitely a better choice.

    Hey Rob, what would you choose for spearfishing in the shallows between rocks and shooting in caves and holes (Mono 2 mm or Dyneema 1.8 mm)!

    What about combining the two? Mono on the shaft and then attaching it to the dyneema on the reel. Does this arrangement make the system stronger as a whole?

      Check this video out, we already suggest this. ua-cam.com/video/MoYhx5XI9l8/v-deo.html What ever works best for your circumstances is good.

    Hey Guys do you have plans for a shaft with a welded eyelet 1/3 the way from the notch for rollers? I've found I get less muzzle wraps with a shorter length of shooting line over the top of the shaft

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому

      You are correct, if the line is attached to the spear in any way, ahead of the wishbones, the line does foul less. We do a shaft with a spearline hole, just ahead of the wishbone notch. If you use a standard spear you have to take special care to keep all the wraps very tight. This greatly reduces the likely hood of a snag occurring.

    I recently switched to your reel with dyneema and tied straight to shaft with bungy inbetween. Do you have a how to video on the suggested knot to be tied on spear straight with dyneema?

      Hi Hennie, here is a link to the video:

      Try looking at this clip to tie onto the spear. ua-cam.com/video/nddtFJP9yH4/v-deo.html Use the same knot to tie the bungee on but use the slip knot to release the shooting line on the spear side of the shooting line (the other end, furthest away from the spear) ua-cam.com/video/MoYhx5XI9l8/v-deo.html

      @@abdielmonrroy7187 14mm is best with 7mm spears. 16mm is best with 7,5mm spears. Rubber lengths are best cut to half the barrel length plus 5 to 10cm.
      14 mm es mejor con lanzas de 7 mm. 16 mm es mejor con lanzas de 7,5 mm. Es mejor cortar los tramos de goma a la mitad de la longitud del cañón más 5 a 10 cm.

    Mono you need crimps. That alone is enough of a reason to shoot dyneema for me. But I also like the dyneema more. The 1.4mm stuff is gold

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Рік тому +1

      The 1,4mm is great for speed but some don't like it for handling. We fit what the customer wants.

      @@RobAllenSpearfishing have you guys had experience with the stiff dyneema shooting line. Seems to be aussie based. That’s the 1.4 stuff I been using it’s really fantastic. Maybe worth a topic one day.

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Рік тому +1

      @@bluedoggum8373 We started having this made for our guns 20 years ago. Many manufacturers have copied it. The stiffness is good but not as good as stiffened mono. The problem with a tight weave is that it actually weaker than the soft weave.

    Its all about drag. Dyneema is stronger at the expense of a slower shot

  • @justinmcglinn8275
    @justinmcglinn8275 2 роки тому

    Dyneema is stronger around reef? I find that counter-intuitive, when fishing we use mono for leader because it is more abrasion resistant

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому +4

      When fishing you are using much thinner Dyneema compared to the mono nylon leader. When spearing, the diameters are closer. I will do a wear comparison video some time soon to compare the two.

      Dyneema is wayyyy better in my experience. I’ve shot trout that reef me then get sharked and the dyneema still doesn’t break. Gets scuffed up but doesn’t break. I should probably learn to splice though, I’m lazy and just tie bow line knots

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому

      @@tommy_dozz Not possible to splice the braided version with a core, better to stitch. The bowline knot is not a good idea as it slips.
