Enjoying your videos- hoping to buy some 4Ks and Blu-Rays around Black Friday, and watching your hauls reminds me of some of the titles I want most. Side note: the Cinerama documentary in the "How the West Was Won" package is a must watch. I actually met one of the filmmakers in line at the TCM Classic Film Festival while waiting to go in to finally see "This is Cinerama" at the Cinerama Dome, and told him about this awesome doc on Cinerama before he mentioned his background. Can't believe the Dome is closed now- I want to get into the Beehive again!
Great video- I used to work for the ArcLight Hollywood multiplex which included the Cinerama Dome in the early 2000’s. Working there and going by Amoeba looking for deals are some of my favorite memories. Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️🎥
Amoeba Music used to be located right next door to the Cinerama Dome Theatre before they moved to their current location) , where I got to see How The West Was Won for its 40th Anniversary back in 2003 in real 3-projection Cinerama. They even gave a few of us who stayed for the exit music (properly, with the curtains closed instead of the Exit Music still on the BD) a tour of the projection booth. 5 technicians were used for the showing. That night at the American Cinematheque (Egyptian Theatre) I saw the 50th Anniversary showing of Kiss Me Kate in its original 3-D and stereophonic sound. Those were good times.
The thrill of the hunt, is always more satisfying that online ordering. Love supporting specialty brick and mortar stores. Got three amazing mom and pop shops in my area!!!!
Amoeba Music is an amazing store! If you ever get up to the Bay Area, you need to visit the store in San Francisco's iconic Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. One of my favorite places to visit, and I'm glad I don't live too close to it because I would be spending a lot of money there.
I was in SF visiting friends and was able to stop by there a few months ago. Got lucky and picked up the Eureka Punishment Park release for really cheap.
Loved your California physical media trip. Those type of stores makes me long for the days I lived in LA. of course those days they were practically on every corner!
Glad you had a great time at Universal Studios! I was just there a couple months ago, and we got to walk around the Psycho Bates Motel set as part of the tour, it was super cool. I've never been to Amoeba Music, but that store looks great for blu rays. I'll definitely try to check it out sometime. Also great to see Conner make a cameo 🙂
My mom grew up in Los Angeles and always told us about her memory of going to the Cinerama Dome to watch Camelot in 1967. She loved the experience but thought the film was just okay. Haha
Man, I miss that place. When I lived in LA, I would try and frequent that place as much as I could (the original location) I found some gems that I couldn't find anywhere else. I haven't been to the new location. Looks pretty sweet in your video.
Great video. If you like Digibooks there is a company in Spain called Divisa that puts out some great and pretty decently priced ones, Mercury Films does some good Digibooks as well. I recently got the 1976 classic Who Could Kill A Child and the 1969 lilli Palmer film the House that screamed both were amazing looking digibooks. Great content as always.
That drives me nuts as well buddy and I hate it when factories and companies do that. They need to stop and I'm glad it doesn't happen with every single release!
I have been shopping at Amoeba Hollywood for 20 years. Never once have I bought anything new (prices are not discounted) . But I have bought a lot of used items and have gotten some great deals
Amoeba store rankings based on movie sections: Hollywood > SF > Berkeley. Although I will say Hollywoodsnd SF can both have an argument made for first place! First time I ever went to an Amoeba was at the the old location on Sunset. This location had a second floor dedicated to movies!
So you're not going to show the inside of the How The West Was Won Blu-ray? You're flipping pages like it's going out of style. Come on, man! You're a flippin UA-camr. At least show some of the pages on that thing. And quit shoving your movies into the lens. It's very annoying.

I hope to go to Amoeba someday. Thanks for taking us on this journey, DJ!

Exciting! Amoeba has always seemed so cool.
Awesome blu-ray hunting trip buddy. Amazing pick-ups!

I wish NYC had an Amoeba type store. But it probably wouldn’t survive. Best we can do is Book Off, which is all used media.

I couldn’t remember if you got that How the West Was Won digibook or not, but I’m glad you did!
You can use a hairdryer on a low heat setting on the spine to losen the adhesive 🙂

Amoeba bases their prices on high internet prices these days.
