The Canonet QL17 GIII at Coney Island
Переглядів 18 тис.2 роки тому
today we're going to be shooting the Canonet QL17 GIII at coney island on portra 400. i picked up this bad boy at an antique mall, though the repair costs equated to buying a refurbished model on ebay. UNFORTUNATELY, Alex's Etsy shop seems to be closed as of July 5th, 2022: www.etsy.com/listing/241238758/affordable-service-repair-for-canon?click_key=51118b8167ecd4ffee76a4663d07eaa06d2d7569:2412...

shooting Lomography 800 for the first time
Переглядів 1,6 тис.3 роки тому
this week we check out Lomography 800. an interesting film that i'm excited to use more of, if i can find it. it's sort of like a cheap portra, but the real comparison is not there. overall: get it if you can, but don't stress it if you can't thanks for tuning in. subscribe for more film photography content and feel free to ask me any questions in the comments below! i try to answer all of them...
the ESSENTIAL Minolta x570/x700/35mm SLR accessory

the Minolta x570 is better than the x700
Переглядів 9 тис.4 роки тому
this isn't a hot take at all. tl;dr - buy the x570 instead of the x700. all photos featured in video shot on the Minolta x570 and scanned on the Epson v600. the film stocks i used were Kodak Portra 800, Kodak Ektachrome 100, and Fuji Superia 400. comment below if you want me to identify any film stock used on a particular photo. thanks for tuning in. subscribe for more film photography content ...
why i sold my Minolta XG-1
Переглядів 10 тис.4 роки тому
i know i just made the video on my first roll with the xg-1, but I had to upgrade. for a tl;dr - the XG-1 had a dark viewfinder, uncomfortable body, broken self timer, and limited manual exposure display so i upgraded to the X-570. thanks for tuning in. subscribe for more film photography content and feel free to ask me any questions in the comments below! i try to answer all of them check out ...

Well done man. Digging the vibe.
My x-700 has given me great photos. I never used the program modes just manual.
Very nice. I'm watching this after the Pandemic (obviously). Thanks for making. It informed my usage on my RZ67.
Bro, dont say you dont take good photos. Your shots are beautiful.
Nice shots
dont put your guitar with the headstock like this against the wall, it is not very good, there is already enough tension on the neck and headstock from the strings. LP style guitars might be especially prone to damage because of the angle of the headstock. Cool camera though
What stocks did u use? Did you push at all? These shots look great and well exposed esp for indoor
Wonderful video! Love the vibe!
thank you, glad to hear!
Truly great video. I loved the pacing and journey aspect of it.
LOVED that first shot
Such awesome shots! I just got my hands on one of these and cant wait ti try it out!
I'm missing the rubber eye piece on mine, anyone have any idea where to get a replacement?
It's also much MUCH easier to replace the capacitors if they die on the 570. Easily done by oneself with a soldering iron, the 700 you can break everything a lot more easily if you try (can maybe do it), they're really buried in there.
Yeah there's only one to replace, under the bottom cover, if you spend a couple of extra pennies and replace it with a tantalum capacitor it'll never need fixing again. Brilliant camera.
What a nice video, man... so relaxing! I just bought one too in a vintage store in excellent condition, and i can't wait to use it. What battery do you recommend me use? Px625A or a wein cell px675? I've heard that the 625 higher volt affect the exp meter.
I just picked one up that was CLA’ed from a camera shop. I’m hoping it is my summer camera when I jump on the bicycle.
I’m keeping mine, it was my Dads.
that’s the best way to receive cameras
Just got one today. Seems to fit well on my minolta xg-7
Did you edit the photos at all or is it pure analog bliss except for digitalization?
i often do minor color correction depending on the lab/home scan, but i try to stay true to the colors!
0:13 - Braga Bridge in Fall River?
What do you do after you shoot your pictures? How do you get them on UA-cam or in social media
get them developed at a photo store ! i scan them at home to digital copies, but photo labs do scans as well
I’ve had the same problem with my x700 but I got told it is not fixable, I already sold it off to somebody for parts.
Thank you Man !
I saw the headline and thought it was going to be the Motordrive 1
Motordrive is definitely a great accessory too! I'm trying to get my hands on one
XG-M USERS RISE UP (its the Minolta sir I could find for 30 bucks)
u get it
Heck yeah, I use both the XG-M and X-500. They’re great. Am about to receive an X-700 in the mail but that’s mainly because of the Multi Function Back that comes with it.
what films can we use?
any 35mm film works in the Canonet!
Just snagged this camera at a thrift store in Colorado. Seems to be in perfect working order. Do you find that with the 1/500th maximum shutter speed that you need to use an ND filter when shooting 400 speed film (or higher) at f/11 or below in bright daylight? I’ve seen a lot of people shoot with it at sunny 16 due to the 1/500th shutter speed limit.
i've personally never had an issue, but i also don't shoot often in broad daylight! ND filters are great if you get one that doesn't cast too much of a color
@@robertsamuel Excellent. Thanks for the info! Oddly enough just scored the Canonet Junior with the 40mm f/2.8 at an estate sale today for $20! 📸
Yo just found this video probably because I’ve been watching Canonet vids lately. Love the vibe here. I appreciate how you edit your shots into your video. I like that you hold it there for just an extra second or two. Really helps me take it in just a little bit longer.
thank you!
I had display p3 profile turned on because I thought this one gave the most colors, I changed to this srgb profile and somehow it looks deeper
Just found you. What a vibe!! Great shots and great video :))
thanks so much !
Loved this vibe!
Nice mic! What's model?
i think it's the Sony f-98 microphone. i got it at a yard sale so i'm not totally sure.
Robert, thanks! Love the results. Our team is here to answer all questions 😀
Dehancer is a great plugin that genuinely blew me away, it opens up a new way to change the way your film looks while making it easy to do so and it's something I will be using in the future
This was great Robert! You have an awesome channel!
thank you!
hello, newb question. How do you take the pictures out of the film to upload on youtube? Just wondering what the process and cost behind it is as I am afraid of the investment i will need to make
shooting analog film is quite the investment. after shooting the roll i take it to a place to get the film developed. then at home i scan the developed film as digital photos.
Using Kodak gold in my XG-M lodi!
I got one of these the other day with a dead light meter. Anyone have a place that might be able fix it? Preferably east coast US
So good to find this!! I also got mine restored by Alex. Lil pricey but for how beautiful it came out and how it works, it was well worth it!! Im on my 4th roll and the camera is just a monster. I love it
alex knows his stuff !
Hey! I have the same Jetta, except in Arctic White! Great video, I am getting a Canonet actually, CHEERS!
yuh
You’re a good enough photographer to invest in yourself. Always.
thanks man
Nice, where are you developing your film these days? I am from the Bronx and Love shooting in Coney Island.
hey. i cycle around a few different places but i like Accurate Photoshop down in brooklyn. might be far for the bronx though
Robert, thanks for such an interesting and detailed review! Love the results! If there are questions, we are happy to answer them. Recently we have released our Photo Editing IOS App and are inviting everyone to test it. 😄
As someone who recently obtained Dehancer for Photo, how do I know if there's an update to the software? I don't see anywhere in the limited menu system to check for that, other than updates to film emulations.

thanks man!
I looove your photos! They are so perfect! This is the aesthetic I am after!
thanks man! good luck on your journey
Been looking at this camera, seems super cute
i definitely recommend it!
great shots! glad you had a safe trip
love this
I agree, X570 is better. I have a 370, 570 and 700, I use only the 570. With the Motor Drive 1, it's a great package with great ergonomics. My first camera was a Pentax ME super, so I got used to those metering lights inside the viewfinder.
insanely good shit
commenting for the algorithm. Great video. The photos with the light entering the bnb worked so well!
thank you!
