This episode was a classic. Misunderstand can.get anyone in trouble. Guns are big problems expecially in the wrong hands. Doesn't matter who you are it's wise to look in the bag if your gonna hold it. As a kid I loved the comedy of this cast. The women got duped abunch but they really put these guys in their place. The writing was great and kingfish was always trying to con somebody. Trying to make a $ out of opportunity. Can't blame the man yet trouble was his middle name. I knew I was gonna be laughing bunches with this show. Clean fun thanks for reruns cuz it brings back how funny this show was. This is pure Love through comedy

@Corno di Bassetto I think Amos and Andy was top drawer 1950s comedy. It was all about people acting stupid and / or trying to scam people and getting caught. I Love Lucy. Phil Silvers. The Honeymooners. Etc. The problem is that as you said, television and movies at that time gave a much wider representation of white people. However, it only showed black people either in subservient roles, or acting stupid. I agree with you; after Amos and Andy went off the air, you didn't see blacks on television again in responsible positions until the mid to late 1960s.

I loved watching this show in early reruns as a kid, and still find it warm, and fun, and funny! So sad that so many have been denied the sweet fun of this beautiful show! Sure, it shows black folks in a less than perfect light, but the same tone was found in many "white" shows, such as The Honeymooners, Phil Silvers, Life of Riley, I love Lucy, and The Flintstones. So good to see these wonderfully-made shows again, with all their gentle life lessons.

Amos n Andy could have gone on for years as the radio show had hundreds of stories and episodes. The NAACP brought this show to an end and I would guess it slowed down the production of other shows with a Black cast. Hattie McDaniel said it best when she told the NAACP it is better to play the role of a maid for 700 dollars a week than to be one for 40 dollars. This show was good and clean comedy that showed Blacks as educated people in professional positions. Thank goodness these episodes were saved and we can enjoy them 70 years later. With the money earned as playing the role of Lightning, Horace Stewart opened the Ebony Showcase Theater where many Black actors got their start like John Amos from Good Times.

      @ John Koester, Hello,
Enjoyed your post so very much. It is so touching to the heart.
The only thing I would do is remove the last two words from your post. The woman's qualities that you mentioned are certainly very commendable but not like Sapphire. She was different In my opinion. But I understand she was playing a role and did what was called for.
      My favorite is the Kingfish.

Amos & Andy was a classic! This was real humor . The trouble these guys got into was non stop. I PERSONALLY think its a real shame that the black community never embraced this show . What great writing and humor, not like the crap on Saturday Night Live . Boring .I thought Amos &Andy was more entertaining than the Honeymooners .

I'm a white guy. I grew up watching and enjoying the brilliant comedy of Amos n Andy. Nobody better than Tim Moore. As a youngster, it was the first time I ever saw a black policeman, a black executive, a black judge, etc. I has assumed that blacks couldn't occupy those positions until I was shown that there was no reason why they couldn't. The character of Lightnin' was pretty stereotypical, but the others were just characters in a sitcom. The schemer, the stooge, the suffering wife, the hardworking family man (Amos). Taking it off the air was an overreaction to political correctness.

I'm glad to see this show being put out there for those that remember how good this show was. Due to the whiny black groups who put pressure on networks to not show these shows on air, the American public was denied seeing these great shows and their place in the history of TV and TV comedy. Thanks reelblack for doing this. Now let's put pressure on Disney to get "Song of the South" out to the public again. A great movie with wonderful lessons for kids to learn.

This show was a THOUSAND times better than all the lame sitcoms we've been subjected to over the years! The writing was great and the actors could deliver a line better than anybody else. They didn't just mug for the camera. I could see having white guys in blackface would be terrible, but why put these wonderful actors out of work? I remember this great show from my youth.
