John Joseph Travolta was born on February 18, 1954, in Englewood, New Jersey. The youngest of six children born into a family of entertainers, Travolta dropped out of high school by age 16 to pursue a career in acting. He made his debut in an off-Broadway production of Rain (1972) and then joined the Broadway cast of Grease as a replacement cast member in the role of Doody. He was later part of the original cast for the hit 1974 musical Over Here!, starring Patty and Maxine Andrews along with Marilu Henner.
