What tool are you using to heat it up?

I am using a heat gun designed for craft projects such as embossing powders, iced enamels, and many more crafting projects. I use this heat to prevent discoloring the plated settings. Please note that you will need to use 300 degree solder with the heat gun. You can find the heat gun and solder at www.jansjewels.com/soldering-paste-soldering-torches-1.html

I have noticed that you sometimes use a heat gun instead of the butane torch. I presumed it was when the rhinestone was exposed and would be in danger of being heated. However in this case, you are soldering the back, so just wondering if you could use a butane torch for this project instead of the heat gun.

Hi Shirley. I only use a torch when I am soldering raw brass settings. These pieces would need to be plated to have a finished appearance. I use the heat gun when I am soldering silver plated settings. The torch would discolor the plated settings and you would not get the appearance of a finished piece. Using the heat gun with 300 degree solder and silver plated settings eliminates the need to plate the piece.

Hi Darko. You will also need the low melting point 300 degree prefluxed acid core solder to use with the heat gun. www.jansjewels.com/soldering-paste-soldering-torches-1.html
