Most of us are not watching this for the quality of the audio but the quality of the craftsmanship. Why anyone would expect to listen to the audio in this form of video in stereo defies my comprehension. Keep your money in your pocket ,you and Diane are doing a great job

@johnswain1092 true enough but this has only been the last few videos.... as to stereo, the video is produced in stereo so one channel for each hear... it seems one channel is not making it into video thus on my headphones there is only audio in one hear... as a guy with reduced hearing in the first place, lose of sound in the other hear is a problem... not an inconvenience.
Could be just a setting got switched in the editing software or some setting in the upload to YT, who knows, but when there is verbiage, I want to hear it and it's now harder to do so.

Dave seems to be the kind of guy that puts 100 percent into everything he does, and that would include the audio on his videos.

I tend to disagree: for foreign listener, with a deteriorating hearing, stereo is invaluable to keep the explanations understandable. When the narrative comes through one ear only, I loose track.
The videos are of course very interesting nonetheless.

    • @wssides
      @wssides 2 дні тому +3

I tend to blame wax in an ear, hearing aid acting up or headphone problems. Today with no headphones (because it is only the cat and I in the house) I have no in and out/ side to side. I guess if I was playing it on a sophisticated stereo system it would be noticeable. Never been tempted to stop playing a session due to the audio.

There’s an expression that says “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”.
If I was paying top dollar to watch your work I’d expect one level of audiovisual performance, but I’m not. I get to glimpse into your fascinating world for FREE! every week. I, and the vast majority of those who regularly watch, have come to take a peek over your shoulder as you tackle the restoration of various horse drawn vehicles while treating us to a little of the almost forgotten history that allowed those who struggled to make a home in what was a wilderness.
I follow along, from the comfort of my armchair, round about 4500 miles away, and am grateful for each and every one of your videos.

Hey Dave,I just came home from a roadtrip through rural Australia .I visited this preserved farm in South-Eastern Victoria that has heaps of 19th century farm wagons and some truly terrifyingly dangerous looking horse or bullock drawn equipment.Mowers, seed spreaders, threshers and god knows what else. If you fell off the metal seat into the thrashing iron-mongery, you would have been toast.
Thanks to your videos, I reeling off the names of reaches, reach-hounds, felows, spokes and hubs. The wheels was huge 4 or 5 feet diameter with 4 x 1 inch tyres. I tut-tutted at the poor workmanship they used on the preservation .They welded tabs on the tyre to stop it falling of the wheel. They were Borax Wagon looking wheels.I can appreciate the strength and skill required to fit the felows on those massive, thick, oval, spokes. But due to lack of funds, it is the best they can do.I loved this farm.

While I appreciate your dedication to providing content that is exceptional, you have no apologies to make for the audio, or any other 'technical' glitches people might notice. You are a very skilled craftsman who has given us hours of pleasure and imparted a knowledge that is in danger of passing away with the modern era. You are to be congratulated for the work that you do, not the least of which are the uncounted hours you spend editing this content. I just want you to know that your efforts are appreciated and I am very grateful to have learned a great deal from you. Please, keep up the good work sir. You are a craftsman of the first water!

I am fascinated by the angled bolts. Someone had a brilliant mind back when this was originally built, and solved a complex problem with a simple solution that is easily replicated here (and whenever repairs would have been needed). It is also amazing how much the iron bracing adds to the overall integrity of the vehicle.

I have a friend who is an electrician. He was doing a job where I worked a few years ago and I was nearby. I noticed that when he put a switch plate on he lined the screw slots up vertically. I made a comment about it and he said that was his way to do it, pay attention to the details. I had never thought about it before that now it is something I pay attention to. Paying attention to the little details is one of the signs of high quality. People who do this kind of work are the ones to learn from. I'm always amazed at your creations and recreations. I'm an old carpenter from Florida and I'm having at this time a hearing issue in my right ear. I watch videos at my desk with headphones. Speakers in my shop.
At the start of this video, the left channel is no sound, so the right channel is muffled for me. I'm not complaining, just trying to offer some feedback. So throughout the video, there are other issues that are not so important to point out, but there are problems.
Without being there, it would be hard to find out what the problem is. I can only suggest experimenting with things to track down the gremlin. I like the content and I believe you would like it to be as good as possible. Thanks for all you do!

Mr. Engels I've been producing video for television and later, the internet since 1980. Your craftsmanship is so captivating that I hardley notice the audio. I think it is just fine for your channel. Maybe an audiophile could find fault, but not me. Are there variations? Sure. So what? You don't need claperboards and high end audio sync, unless you just want to. In fact, I've become quite impressed with your production quality. Most recently your stop action, or stop motion photography and editing was impressive. I'm guessing you use a one camera setup. I watch at 1080p and sometimes with enhanced bit rate. Cameras and mics are just tools. Look what you accomplish with very ordinary, and somewhat rudimentary tools! Far better 'product' than many others with state of the art, high $$ gear. You do an excellent job and produce above average quality content. Let the UA-cam certified experts carp. Most of us out here on the innerwebs appreciate your work.

It's so nice to see someone doing this kind of work with "acoustic" tools. Too many times today you see folks using power tools for everything... especially impact drivers. That said, seeing you use a regular flat blade screwdriver on the screws that held the irons to the wood pieces... do you suppose the old timers would have used a Brace to drive those in?

I am not complaining, just providing data to help solve the audio problem if desired.
I imagine Mr Engles would be unhappy if both sides went out during a long recording session, so I point out the problem to be helpful. I work in electronics, and I have saying: “90% of the time it’s connections”. I suspect a mic connector going bad or not fully inserted. Moving the camera between scenes may jiggle it into (or out of) place.
For me, on an iPhone with Bluetooth earbuds:
Video starts out with good right side and no left.
At scene change at about 3:13 the left side comes in weakly and seems to vary a bit (right still fine)
At scene change at about 4:04 left comes in fine (right still good).
Left side goes out a few more times during the video but these examples should suffice.

I watch for the craftsmanship, not the audio. Since you mentioned the issue, I noticed that there was an audio change when the scene changed at at 3:10. Before, the sound was a bit muffled but after, it became more clear.
Anyway, thanks for all your great videos.

The audio for this video was fine. Keep doing whatever you did this time. On a different note, you go to great extremes to match the historic build to the smallest detail. I wonder if the craftsmen of the day cared as you do on the finish and finish of every part? I'm betting they were happy to get the wagon built and out the door, more than the fit and finish. You are building true museum-quality reproductions! Thanks for the history lessons.

...........G'day Dave and Dianne; Happy New Year.
I have been enjoying your videos for many years and have not noticed any problems with sound from my speakers. Some time ago I was using head-phones and had some weird things happen that I traced to the head=phone jack.
    Cheers and God bless,
    Malcolm.

I think it’s got to do with premium on u tube or one with commercials, I don’t have any issue while watching.❤😊👍. Dave I truly enjoy watching.

I wear headphones when listening to your videos, and yes, currently (at the beginning of this video) the audio feed is only coming through the right ear. I do have some software extension for my browser that allows me to adjust the levels of the audio, but I shouldn't have to do that. 😊

I hear you perfectly all right, although I must be honest, I’m concentrating more on your manual skills.

I'm constructing a Model Expo 1/12 model of a western buckboard wagon. Mitered corners and bent bolts are neat details often missing in basic kit drawings. It's nice to see all the detail work up close.

I'm glad you mentioned the audio, I thought I'd lost my left ear 🤣. The mic is obviously the issue, but I think it's placement rather than the unit.
It was apparent in frame 19:17 when you bent over. Hopefully you can save the expense of another mic. I know this sounds pedantic but I taught journalism for 20 years and had a side gig as an audio engineer in a recording studio so this sort of thing comes as second nature.
Having said that I'd enjoy your work if you used a tin can on a piece of string. We love your work and thanks for all your time and effort.

Hi Dave, and Diane, I must be too old...I can't hear any audio issues, or I'm so mesmerized by what's going on to notice. I always have a good time watching, and appreciate the variety of things going on. This is going to be a great year. Thank you for sharing, and have a great weekend.
