RIP Ray Gillen one of the best true singers ever of any genre. I got a little misty eyed watching that video. RIP Criss Oliva too. Kids today should watch that clip and see what it was like when musicians were the real deal, not some autotune, robotic sounding generic crap like most bands today.
2 AWESOME talents...Ray Gillen and Criss Oliva...R.I.P. You're both missed more and more as each year passes! Your music will stand the test of time...
Wtf?! This is sheer perfection! Why the hell does this not have a trillion views?! Oh wait, yeah right, we live in a world of stupid. Lol. Anyway this was so beautiful for so so many reasons. Ty for posting.
I've been watching this exact video for 10+ years. It never fails to make me happy and sad at the same time. Happy with all the insane talent here, sad that a few of them are gone now :( I dont know why I didnt post before, but tonight I just wanted to say thank you to other1152. -Rev
Damn. Ray Gillen with Savatage awesome! Got to see original Badlands with Ray early 90's Phoenix, AZ what a killer line-up Jake E Lee had. Miss these days.
Yeah, that energy has never been equaled. I saw that tour twice in the summer of 1990. Both shows in Seattle. Saw them in June, and then they came back again in August, strangely enough. Probably just before or after this show. The first show, in June, is still the most magical performance I have ever seen. They were on fire. Met Jon, sitting alone at the end of the dark, seedy bar, at the first show, and Criss came up to me to chat at the second show, as I was standing behind the tiny stage entrance, looking at his Jackson Soloist and other guitars on their stands. Super nice guy, and one of the best to ever play the instrument.
Two of the greatest voices ever... Jon Oliva and Ray Gillen... And what a sad year 1993 must have been... I hadn't been born yet, but losing both Criss and Ray that year (not to mention my beloved Frank Zappa) was a huge blow.
I had Voodoo Highway when it came out and I was not into it. It was too weak because I was into the heavier stuff. Got into Badlands 2 weeks ago. I am also liking Sun Red Sun. I didn't even know or had forgotten he died. That really bites!!
This is a WOW you gotta be sh-t’n me vid. I had no idea it existed. I had the pleasure of working with both badlands and savatage in 1991, so this pulls on the old heartstrings!
I was at this show and it was amazing. Trouble opened up. The Savatage guys were are really cool guys and so was Ray Gillen. The stuck around for a long time hanging out and talking to the fans. I was fortunate enough to catch them 4 times on this tour.
WOW.......is this 2 pieces of awesome vocal talent working here together on stage, just how powerful is that? & what great losses with Jon's brother Criss, what an awesome lead guitarist he really was & Ray Gillen what an awesome vocal talent......R.I.P. These 2 bands are some of my FAVORITE heavy metal groups of ALL TIME !!!!!!!
Ray And Criss, Wonderful duo 👍I’m like, great song💕first band » Savatage » Young Ray... him voice 1982 » Heaven&Hell 🤷♀️is...😪after one, two years👍Yes, yes is OKAY Magnificent and seeing the video with « FRIENDS » to yesterday, a pleasure🎶🔥I’m like very🔥lovely 🙏💕
Heard this band from some metal underground radio station I could only hear when driving my truck thru north new jersey and could only get it for 20 minutes riding thru.Bought the cassette that weekend
This was not recorded at Jezebels, but on May 4, 1990 at the Celebrity Theater in Anaheim. The gig at Jezebel's, also in Anaheim, was four months later on Aug 26, 1990. I am honored to have seen both shows, which were very different from each other. The Celeb Theater show was almost like a small festival, in a fairly large venue with numerous bands (one of which was Dangerous Toys, and I think Testament was also on the bill), while Jezebel's was small club. Both shows kicked ass.
What the fucking hell happened to the world and everything that was real in it and between people? It really saddens me, though the melancholy and nostalgia of this video warms my heart and provides a moment of joy.
great song, the gutarist, is awsome, i love the sound of this song, ..did ray know he was sick at all?? to be able to turn back the hands of fucking time......if i could have just one wish ,it would bring back all the greats...his mom s heart must ache.
+tink ie He knew. Eric Singer, the band's former drummer and signatory, said in "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath," that Ray refused to take an AIDS test for a life insurance policy that the record company wanted him to get. Eric was in the band from 1988 til 1990. Greg Chaisson (on bass) has commented that Ray was always prone to sickness in the band--that when they first started touring, Ray could not do a tour with AC/DC cause of several-month-long case of pneumonia. I'm sure he went to the doctor for that! (so that was 1988-89, I'm guessing--before this 1990 stint here).
My band mates went to school with Criss Oliva, great guitarist. I was going to go to the Livestock show with my friends but was sick. Then I was watching the news the next day and was like WoW Really?
Ray Gillen one of the best singer of all times

Pomeroy Watson Me too!
I agree. Noone like Ray. I took voice lessons with his voice teacher Robert Fitzgerald. Why do shooting stars burn out so fast?
@@ericfrey2866 scientifically, they burn all their fuel faster than the others. Still, it's a shame, Badlands was awesome sounding
2 AWESOME talents...Ray Gillen and Criss Oliva...R.I.P. You're both missed more and more as each year passes! Your music will stand the test of time...
A unique moment in heavy metal. R.I.P. Criss Oliva and Ray Gillen. Gone too soon.....
Ray Gillen was an alien. What a talent... RIP
Amen
Wtf?! This is sheer perfection! Why the hell does this not have a trillion views?! Oh wait, yeah right, we live in a world of stupid. Lol. Anyway this was so beautiful for so so many reasons. Ty for posting.

Same here brother. I rewatch every so often when I need it.
Damn. Ray Gillen with Savatage awesome! Got to see original Badlands with Ray early 90's Phoenix, AZ what a killer line-up Jake E Lee had. Miss these days.
LEGENDARY performance, RIP Criss and Ray!
God, what a fucking awesome vibe coming off those guys in that venue. Great performances all around.

A wonderful moment. RIP Criss & Ray
Brilliant song! Criss Oliva's playing is really on display here... and Ray Gillen is hammered but still hitting the high notes!
Yeah he was a few beers into it
Ray the man!. In Badlands, Sabbath, you name it, he was the golden voice.
Ray Gillen great singer ! RIP
Cris Oliva was such a fantastic guitarist! RIP

This is a WOW you gotta be sh-t’n me vid. I had no idea it existed. I had the pleasure of working with both badlands and savatage in 1991, so this pulls on the old heartstrings!

EPIC.............
So jealous I couldn’t see this
This is kick ass
Two people must be deaf....this is fucking incredible.....kicks so much ass.....
Wow they sound incredible I'll never understand why they weren't a multimillionaire dollar successful band🤯😰.
If I had a hand the size of Mars I’d slap the entire world for not making this band multimillionaires
Some went on to form trans siberian orchestra. They doing okay.
Hell yeah! missed Ray Guillen, he had some pipes, gone too fucking soon! How Joe Olive passed?
First, his name is Jon Oliva. Second, it was his brother Criss who died. Jon is still alive
1:33 haha, changing lyrics
Man Ray looks wasted - cool and his voice is still awsome.
@elfquest108 Yeah....back in the day, it seems guys didn't know that they could scale them down.
Jon and Ray are so High in this video lmfao
Ray :,(
Stevie ray Vaughan played his last concert the same night this was filmed.
Best band since Floyd
Ray & Chris died in 1993
