Katie I never would have thought of the red paint but boy oh boy it turned out beautifully! Another great job!!
Yes, a nice accent to a Chinoiserie room, with China Blue.
I love that color of red.
That was brilliant watering down the wood putty to smooth the surface of the wood. Very cute cabinet and love the red!
I’m one of “those people” who (even though it has its place) very much dislike painted furniture. So I am very pleasantly surprised at just how much I am liking this project. Your color choice was spot on and gratefully different from what I normally see everywhere and the addition of the doors was an excellent decision. Outstanding job!
I love the final color and the angled legs. (Gotta say I cringed when you originally chose that purple-red berry "Winchester" color.) This turned out so cute.
That's a super sexy piece of furniture! I don't think the encyclopedia door to door salesman could have imagined this beauty! 🎉❤
What a perfect little shoe cabinet for an entryway! Beautiful job as always!!
Wow! It’s gorgeous Katie! That red is sooo pretty and the gold knobs just make the piece! 🥰🥰🥰
You never disappoint! She’s a beauty!
You turned this into such a versatile piece! And gorgeous also! I can see this for storage in a home office, entryway catch all, towel storage in the bathroom, etc. Love this!
Lovely! The feet remind me of some of the furniture pieces my grandma has. Good memories.
I had a lot of fun watching this transformation and the result is more than amazing ! What a simple color change is started as a new piece !!! Love that color so much and you made the right choice !!! Great video !!
Love it!!!! Those knobs are just perfect with it! What a great little piece 😍
You never cease to amaze me! Sometimes I look at the furniture piece before you start working on it and I think, “Oh God, how can this possibly be saved?” And you always do it! Truly talented. This is a beautiful accent piece for any home.
Congrats, you've put hard work and expertice on this piece and the result couldn't be better. The color choice, perfect. An sleek and elegant piece of forniture.
Wowza! I never would have gone red, but that is GORGEOUS! Thanks for always showing us something new to try!
Really love your redo of this piece. Excellent job on the doors.
Red is making a big comeback back in 2024 - I’m still painting over the red from 1990’s😕 I’m over it, but I have to admit, you nailed it! It turned out great! Love the advice with the slurry on the inexpensive board!
🙏 as always
This is stunning! You always find great pieces of furniture, then "Wow" us with the transformation! Love this!!😍
I love how you drilled the holes together! So smart. It turned out awesome. I need to go thrifting soon.
Closed storage is such a smart option!
I think this would make a fantastic little bar and be THE pop of color!
When you started I was thinking is this worth the time and then when you choose the color, I almost stopped watching, but WOW, what a beautifully great job, I want this piece, congratulations what a beautiful job you did Katie!!!!!!
I so appreciate how you used the gray color before the red. Great job
We bought a slightly larger version of this bookcase in the late 1960s. Of course the sliding glass doors didn't last long with three small children plus a bumptious dog. 😉 I forget exactly what happened to it in the end but it was sturdy and useful while we kept it. I think it was handed down to one of the kids, like so many other old items. 👍😊
Katie it looks great! love the double Katie 😉 definitely gets me closer to trying red!!
Katie, its been my experience that more men will buy red furniture than women. I don't know why but its a color they are drawn to especially these smaller pieces. I love it, great piece!
That color is perfection for that piece and your finish is so satiny smooth!
Heh, heh….”this is like a sail” anyone else see Katie flying over Wisconsin, clinging to a piece of plywood? 🤭 Just had to,cuz we’ve all been there, right? Anyway, gorgeous piece once again, Katie. That red is scrumptious! Can’t wait to see what you do next.
Hi Katie, don’t know how I missed this one. Very cute! 🥰
We had that exact same item years ago. Would not have thought to do what you did with it. What a transformation! Love it.
Wow, that turned out so nice! Great video as always Katie!
You did such a terrific job on this dresser!!! ❤❤❤
That red is gorgeous. Those doors are a perfect canvas for a transfer also!
Nice job, Katie! It would also be cool to leave the one glass door so that one side is closed storage and the other side is for display. Love your videos!
I am all about this red piece!! You’re such a pro! One of my big takeaways today… put a bag over the break-off screws before you cut them! HELLO?? Those things fly everywhere! 😂
Seriously, though, LOVE ❤️ this cool piece and your process is 👍🏻!
So FLIPPING awesome!!! I'm so glad you did the red...its gorgeous!!!!
Although I've done my share of furniture refinishing, I wouldn't have given this piece a second thought given the way it looked when you got it because it just didn't seem to have any appeal at all. However, Katie, you seem to have a real 'knack' for finding and restoring beauty in these furniture pieces, some even to the point of making them look better than their original selves! And this one IS a real beauty and I love that you were brave enough to paint it red - a niche piece but one that will be much appreciated for those seeking something outside the box. You did a fantastic job on this!
I get the cost benefit analysis of not replacing the glass doors, but there are many glass shops that can make those doors, including the finger pull.
Definitely an option if you wanted to go that route.
I love that red paint. It made that piece gorgeous.
Love the red. Such a rich color and so underrated. Thanks for sharing, Katie.
The finish on that paint is absolutely beautiful the spray job you don’t see any marks I like it better than I thought I would really nice
Can't believe it's the same piece great job. Again!
Ahhh! The low battery! Ahhh!
The color and the knobs are perfect!!! I'm in love with that piece!
Great re-style for the old encyclopedia cabinet!
I wasn't sure where you were going with the redesign of this piece, but I LOVE what you did!! That red just made it POP!!!
Now, in my best MOM voice, "KATIE SCOTT!! WHERE were YOUR GLOVES" when you went to the shed in the snow to find the material to make the doors for this project? Sorry, but that's the first thing that popped into my MOMMA brain when you said your hands were freezing! ❤
Love this transformation! Been looking for ideas in how to turn the Ikea vihals glass cabinet into a closed shoe cabinet for the hallway. This video came at the right time! Love the colour😍😍
It’s beautiful (as always). I would love to see you use that wine colour on a piece sometime still though 😍
I’ll get to it eventually 😉
The way you described how the piece could be used at the end sold me 😩 I wanted the piece and it doesn't even match my decor 😂 Great Job ❤
👏👏👏👏👏 Bravo!! Stunning color.
Katie - This project you did is amazing. 😊 You can paint anything! ThankU for sharing with us.
Love the Color!
I am so here for the color!! I understand why you usually stick with neutrals, but this is so striking!
Have you considered using a Wagner Spray Tent? I have one but only used it outside, so not sure how protective it is inside. My grandmother had this little cabinet, I wish I knew where it is today. This is stunning and I love it.
I’d never put it up and take it down in between. I have zero issues cleaning up my dusty mess so it’s not worth it for me 🤷🏻♀️
Funny story, or not, I decided to paint a room red. I’ve painted rooms many, many times and I figured this was no different than any other wall. The walls were already painted the typical contractor beige, so no priming needed. The color went up, I was delighted! However, I noticed the overlap lines were visible and I could still see the beige wall. No biggy, it was the first coat. Second coat, lines and original wall color…third coat, lines and wall…need more paint now. Back to the big box store and was told I needed tinted primer. Went home with pink primer (salesman said that’s what I needed after I questioned the light color, I mean it’s similar to the original color) and more red paint. The pink primer shone like the sun through the red paint. Sixth coat, ugh!!, lines!!!! Seventh coat, lines, ARRGH!!!! Needed more paint, forget the big box store, I went to Sherwin Williams. The salesman there laughed when I told him I was on my seventh coat. He said the big box store got its money out of me (I can laugh now). He sold me dark gray primer and red paint. Put the primer up, then the red. Aaaaaaaaaaa, the angels sang! Beautiful red walls in ONE coat of red paint. The moral of my story is to forget the big box store salesmen who may, or may not, actually paint/painted for a living, and get sound advice from a more seasoned paint expert at a premium paint store. It may just save you nine coats of paint!! 😂😂😂
Braving all weathers ⛄️ 👍
Beautifully done
This looks so lovely Katie, that red was the perfect choice for the piece! 😍👏
Love the red paint and the wood doors!
Great piece, You are the best furniture person on UA-cam. Red is in. I wish I lived near you.. I've been looking for a piece like that for my entryway.
Katie you are extremely talented. This turned out gorgeous!!
I admit, I raised an eyebrow and the mention of the red paint but no raised brow now. This piece is a stunning statement piece for sure. I love it.
Thank you! 😊
Love the results! I have an old dresser that is red and honestly I get so many compliments on it! I am not a red person but it is in a gray slightly tinted and olive tint that you don’t notice but it really makes the red dresser look stunning. I have some art on the walls that have red barns and a black iron bed and it just must work! So that little red piece could really be someone’s conversation piece for sure! And those knobs and the wood doors really a fantastic choice!
Funny thing; I just yesterday watched (although it was originally posted about 10 mo's ago) another UA-cam furniture refinisher who refinished a bookcase almost exactly the same as this one! Both of you did a good job, but I enjoyed watching you more ❤
All I can say is WOW!
Love it. Must say those screws are ANYTHING but easy to snap.
😂 they do take a LOT of effort to cut!
The red is really striking! Love it! 😊
I was going to paint an armoire navy blue. I didnt have time to paint three coats of the navy to cover up white primer, so I held my breath and poured folk art black acrylic paint into my Kilz primer. It turned out a dark grey. I pushed ahead painting only two coats of navy. It turned out great for anyone wanting a cheap way to dull down white primer.
That’ll work if you’re using a waterbased primer but don’t try it with the shellac based stuff I use. It will seize and be completely unusable 😬
Great work! I so very much appreciate all of your creations! And, your constant willingness to to share your expertise teaches me so much. Thanks ~
Following... I have a cabinet similar to this but it's a sewing machine (not built in, thankfully), but the top and sides are SOOO shiny. I was thinking it was just very shiny poly. I do not want to paint it. I'm now inspired! Thank you as always!
Fantastic inspo for us KS! You have helped me more than you will ever know.
It looks wonderful (great knobs, too) but half of the beauty is knowing how meticulously you prepare your pieces.
I think red has a stigma attached to it, for some reason, but I love it. I have done a few things in it, and it always gets compliments.
I loved this video! I love the red paint you chose. What an incredible transformation. The bookcase looks stunning!
VERY cute. Good save
Oh my goodness. Absolutely stunning. As always you do such an amazing job. Thank you for sharing your video
Wow! 😮
Gorgeous! This would make a great little bar cabinet!
The color is gorgeous and looks great on that style of furniture!
Love your range of color and style in your work
That is beautiful, I love the colour
Great job Katie. I didn’t think I was going to like the red but it turned out great. Thanks for sharing.
You are fearless dear. Thats what make you so awesome. Love the color
Ow that I see your red cabinet, I am ready to tackle on I have in my kitchen that’s a candidate for a remake. And bonus: the red will fit perfectly. Thanks, Katie for another inspiring video. 👏
WOW that is gorgeous! The pulls are perfect.
Such a beautiful color choice. I loved the way this turned out!
I have one of these in the blonde finish with both doors intact. I love it, I use it in my kitchen for pottery storage
Katie! Yesterday I bought a 'Distinctive Furniture by Stanley' mcm China cabinet for $19 US! Just because the glass was missing. It still has the original hardware, including the starburst things. Beautiful job on the bookcase! Love the red!
That is awesome!
I got teary eyed and told the manager I love him. Ha
Love the history of the piece.
Love the DIY grain filler!
That red was gorgeous! 😍
Transformed! Wow! I appreciate your set of skills!
I absolutely love your use of colours, stunning
Paid 5 bucks for it!? such a steal, the piece was really cool to being with but you turned it into an eve more beautiful one. I especially love that red color, it's perfect!
This is super cute! Can't wait for you to use that cranberry color on something!
Me too!!
Oooh, I'm excited!! Have one just like it sitting next to me, that I've been agonizing about. Mean to keep it though. And I just happen to have some "good both sides" 1/4" too!
😲 WOW..!! This is such a stunning accent piece..! ❤
At first I didn’t think I’d like the red but it looks nice ands sleek. I like it.
It’s really pretty, Katie, and I love that hardware! Thanks for sharing
I love love love this vid. My fav. The wood filler trick! Amazing and so simple and I would have never figured that out. 😂 many tips and tricks in here. Saw more of your personality and it’s beautiful. So is that little cabinet you did. Super nice job.
I couldn’t wait to see what you were going to with this. I love it!!
