    Thanks for reminding me to get started with sowing seeds now. I kind of forget that spring is not the only sowing season….. BTW. You were totally upstaged by your cat chasing a mouse around the table behind you! 😂

    You’re lil chuckle @ 6:10 made me laugh out loud 🤣 also.. seriously, same lmaoooo. My neighborhood landscapers plant different flowers every year….. this year, they did pansies/violas. Like.. DOZENS of them 😭 so many colors!!! I’ve been waiting and waiting for them to go to seed and they just did 😍😍😍 I’ve been collecting all of them lmaooo. I’m SO excited for next spring (already while it’s currently spring 🤣) that I’ve started some indoors hahahah. Idk how they’ll be growing indoors but kinda excited for my experiment!

      Ooh that sounds exciting - hope you have good germination - I wonder whether they will grow true to type or whether you'll get lots of new varieties?!

    Such a fun video today. There's you giving us a great preview of the seeds, and then there's "tom & jerry" going on in the background. I had to watch the clip a few times because I kept missing the content. By the way,, I grew "Johnny Jump Ups" last year and they were a real pleasure. One or two survived and are flowing now, but I've started some new seeds as well. With many seeds I sow 3-5 per cell of the size you are using in the video. I sow them so one seed is in the centre, and assuming a few germinate at least, I prick out all but the centre seedling, and so the transplants stall for a bit to recover but the one left usually goes on to grow a bit ahead. Just a thought you might try, plus it give a bit of scope for back-ups without using so much compost and cell trays. Lovely video, thank you.

      Thanks Jimmy - yes, I'd forgotten that I captured that Tom and Jerry moment by accident!
      Thanks also for the great tip - very useful 😊

    Hi from Oregon 🌲
    I find your videos fun interesting and very helpful 🌷
    I have aquilegia seeds I want to start as well as violas and other things. I will put them outside in a safe place or put them in the refrigerator. I would really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you, 🌷
    Karan

      @cottoverdi  11 місяців тому

      So nice of you Karan, thank you so much. I would start them off inside and then once they germinate, they can be hardened off and grown on outside. They are both hardy plants in most zones.

    New to your channel and I’m loving it, but I had too watch multiple times because of your cat chasing the mouse (8mins and 15seconds).
    I could see something happening over your left shoulder behind the tree. The cat must of been chasing the mouse then 😆
    What would be helpful to me is saying the date. I love your explanations when it comes to describing what/why and how you are doing things.
    Also I really enjoy your outtakes 😆😆😆 x

    Sorry, completely distracted by your kitty's mice chasing antics. Just wondering if he trapped the mouse? 😼🐭

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  2 роки тому +1

      🤣 sorry - there was no way that I could edit it out! That's Baloo and he is just a kitten so he basically plays with them - Max (our other cat) brings them home for him. I've no idea whether he caught it because I didn't even realise that was going on behind me! 🤣🤣🤣🐈‍⬛

    How do you protect the seedlings from aphids? They seem to really love the yong seedlings. Last year the attack was so severe they destroyed them. Now they have attacked the older plants I grew from seeds inside. For whatever reason aphids attack pansies and violas the most. I do not want to use strong pesticides and soapy water seem to not work.

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  9 місяців тому

      Hi Mariya, I don't seem to have aphid problems on my seedlings - only on my roses ! 😕 I would check the environment you are growing in - if in a greenhouse, then maybe do a deep clean at the end of the season. If you are going indoors, then maybe one of your house plants has aphids? Try to plant the seedlings out when they are bigger and more robust, this may help? Good luck. 🌱🌱🌱

    If the Odoratas were successful, I'd be interested in seeing how long they took, if they worried worked etc, I'm trying to grow them, but so far nothing has germinated in 2 years 😞

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Natasha, I've has a modicum of success - not everything has germinated and I need to pot them on. I will be posting a new video showing my current results just after this weekend. Thanks for watching and good luck with yours!

      @@cottoverdi I have heard if they don't germinate in 28 days to put them in the fridge for a week to cold stratify them, but I've also heard you need fresh viola odorata seeds and that they won't germinate if they're older than a couple of weeks, I've left some in my garden to do their own thing, and I feel like living in Australia makes it impossible, maybe it doesn't ever get cold enough where I live (we have no snow) as none have germinated in the garden by themselves from thousands of seeds I let be.
