  • Sowing snapdragons is such a great way to get long-lasting colour in the garden and for flower arrangements, especially for a wedding-they come in so many gorgeous shades. With their blooms stretching across the season depending on the weather, you'll have a steady supply of beautiful flowers to enjoy from spring right through to autumn.

Hi Annette, I share your love of snapdragons! I'm sowing 10 varieties of snaps and did a video of them recently. Unfortunately not all the breeders indicate whether they are in groups 1-2, 3 or 4, so I've had to use trial and error. I'm sowing Potomac Lavender for the first time! I've never needed to use a heat mat though.

Greetings from New Jersey, USA. I've been watching your channel for awhile. I love growing rocket snaps. They bloom for me in early June here and again in September and they overwinter for me when we have mild winters. I'm zone 6b, not sure what that translates to in the UK. Thank you for your helpful videos and friendly presentation.

Good morning Annette, I am sure all the seeds will germinate and you will enjoy a beautiful display of snapdragons. They are such beautiful flowers, my mother grew them and I remember playing with the flowers pressing the sides and the flower opening up. They are strong growers with the most wonderful pastel colours. Have you ever considered growing carnations?, I believe they germinate well with seeds. These were my dad's favourite. There is such a gorgeous selection of flowers that all I can say is I love the majority. Have a beautiful day, keep snug and do take care. Thank you for a well presented video and good information. Many blessings.

Annette to stop flicker you have several choices.
    1. Don't use lights as you have found
    2. Look at your filming frame rate. If you're using a phone or camera just look for frame rate and change that live. You're probably filming at 24 frames per second as that's a standard for TV and utube etc. Switch it up to 30 frames per second and it will either vanish or you'll get a bar. Just keep playing with it.
    3. Change aperture because this will be like squinting but you'll either lose or gain depth of field and also lose or gain light which will also happen with frame rate changes and you compensate with iso setting. You're probably at 100 or 200 so you could raise that yo let more light in if needed. Have a play you can't muck it up.

The mini snapdragons are very handy to know about, thank you! (Very limited space in my garden/patio so I use pots a lot. )

Hi Annette - great video 🎉 My best results with snaps have come from autumn sowings, although I think I was a bit late with the spring sowings I've done. The varieties the breeders are producing are the most incredible and beautiful works of art, really. A far cry from the old Rockets !

These videos are so informative and they make me envious. 💚 I have my allowance of flowers for my balcony. The rest are going to be vegetables. I have snapdragons and wallflowers on my list for another year. Thank you so much for a lovely beautiful interlude in my day.

Love all your videos - the photos, the explanations, and your good nature! Coming from the US to the UK in early summer for a Garden Tour - wanting to see the "must see" gardens but also private, smaller gardens. Very off topic of snapdragons, but any recommendations / tips? (Favorites are flowers - roses, annuals, clematis, dahlia - knowing they are later.)
