Don’t do this ^ unless you need the money in the short term. Figure out how much cash is comfortable to have on hand then put the rest in a portfolio with a risk tolerance you’re comfortable with. HYSA’s and CDs may seem nice right now but they carry an invisible risk - reinvestment risk. Once the fed lowers rates you’ll be sitting with your tail between your legs
Roths are among the best deals out there. No load funds that don’t need sheparding. I only look at it a couple times a year. I wish I would have hit mine harder.
Annuities are affected by inflation the same as stocks. While you never explicitly claim that they aren't, you imply it by mentioning that stock market returns must account for inflation while not mentioning the same for annuities.
I’d say you’re right for people with significant taxable assets. That’s not a lot of people Nick, definitely not the majority of people I speak with about retirement every day.
That 4.75% is still better than the bank rate. All of this is only if you sell some every year to rebalance. What if you don't sell for 30 years? Then you only get the ending capital gains on the highly compounded portfolio. Maybe I will decide to sell in 10 years. Rebalancing is only done by putting new money in the places that need money. And where does this leave me today, 34 years later. Sitting on 4.3 million in S&P500 funds. Oops, and it may double in the next 10 years?

My mom(a retired bank teller) was sucked into one of those 7 year annuities for her Rollover IRA. When she could leave without penalty, I got her out and into Fidelity. Now Fidelity manage it for 1%, and I sleep a lot better at night.

No fluff, straight into information. With good editing too. This is much appreciated 👍👍👍
My money is just sitting in the bank doing nothing but getting eaten by inflation. I never have the confidence to invest
Put it in a High Yield Savjngs account
American Express has a HYSA which currently yields 4.25-4.5%.
Beats inflation plus a little extra. Easy to set up too...

Are you recommending that clients put all of their assets into an EIA?
No - but for many it makes sense to put a significant portion into one, rather than something that floats and can lose money.

CDs and savings accounts are over 5% at the moment and have been there for almost 2 years.
