    Thanks for the idea. I noticed you installed the spring nuts upside down.

      @@danesorensen9874 I thought it would help it slide when being adjusted. I’ve tried it both ways and it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I have it turned around the right way now. Thanks

    So all I need to do is get a machine shop and I'm good to go? Super DIY.

      @@SirFancyPantsMcee a long bolt could be used in place of the string guides. You could put a nut on top and bottom of support so you don’t need to weld or turn anything on a lathe. You could grind down the head of the bolt or cut it off. A drill and saw are the only things you’ll really need. You can also use 2x4 scraps to build it but it’s not as rigid. Good luck on your build

      @@Makingitwild if I drill through the square tubing with a hand drill. Could I fill the square tubing with some wood?

    Thank you for the video. Just wanted to let you know the spring nuts are upside down. The spring goes to the back. There are track grooves in the face of the spring nut. They will hold way better that way. But awesome job and thank you.

      Thanks. I flip the nuts because the arms need to slide to make length adjustments. They might slide with the springs the right way. I’ll give it a try

    Very cool Ty Lee. I have been watching quite a few videos to get an idea how they are made and how they work. I like the way you did this one. I'm going to get the stuff to make it today. Thanks for making this video.Peace out!

    hi can u tell me the distance between the vertical string posts thanks

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  2 роки тому

      I think this one is 16” but I can’t remember and I’m not where i can measure it. It’s not critical to the spacing but I wouldn’t go shorter than 12”. It just depends on what material you have to work with.

    How did you tie the string off to start wrapping, I didn't see in the video. Thanks

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  3 роки тому

      You start with a simple overhand knot on the back right post from where you are standing. You end on the front right post and wrap it around to hold tension. The serving holds everything together so there is no knot on the string after you trim the ends. You can tie the two together but that is a different style string. I hope that helps. Good luck on your build.

    What did you use to stretch?

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  3 роки тому +1

      I use an eye bolt through angle iron with a scale between the string and bolt. I’ve also used a ratchet strap in the same way between fence posts and that worked well but most of the time I’m making recurve and longbow strings so I don’t pre stretch them because it’s easier to have the bow do it.

    Nice string jig. But I'll have to buy 3000 dollars worth of tools to make it. I am 58 years old. The money that I put into retirement when I was 25, instead of building a shop, now has grown to 5 times as much, and still growing faster than building a shop with equipment. I've managed to still do all kinds of things on my back porch and in my shed, without all the fancy crap. My abilities and accomplishments are great, yet my bank account is full also.

    • @Makingitwild
      @Makingitwild  Рік тому +2

      You’re right that it doesn’t make sense to buy tools just for one project. It also doesn’t make financial sense to build a string jig just to make a couple strings because you could buy them cheap. I already had those tools and enjoy building things so even if it seems like a waste of money you can call it entertainment or working on skills.
