I got the same response from a hairstylist when I was thinking about going natural. At the end of the day its our decision so yes I went natural a yr later.
My mom said the same thing when I big chopped my hair 3 years ago😂she said don’t cut your hair it won’t grow back right. I cut it all off the next day & my family was shocked. It was so liberating & I just smiled. They were so mad & I felt so amazing. One of the best moment in my natural hair journey. I’m currently 9 months loc’d & it’s been great. I definitely see myself cutting my hair short again in 5 or 6 years but until then I’m loving my Locs💙🙌🏽I struggle with Dandruff with it being stuck at the root of my Locs but I get it out. It’s all a process. Other than that It’s been a beautiful experience & it’s been teaching me a lot about myself & what it means to love my hair in all of it’s stages. Loose & Loc’d💙🙌🏽
I love that you stuck with doing what you want instead of letting your mom or family influence you! I also feel like I’ve grown to love my hair in all stages. Thanks for watching! ☺️✨
I I retwisted my locs twice during the quarantine. I did a twist out. But since my loctician is back open, I'm back to my regular monthly schedule. I had alot of loose hair so my loctician interlocked most of my locs because of my soft and finer texture and now my locs are doing well . I dont like doing my own hair. It's my self care and pampering time. After they mature more, I'll extend my retwist out longer. Mind you, this is my third set but each time, they look different. I'm really pleased with set (18 months) much like my first set. I cringe when I hear someone say dreads even when I'm complimented. I feel the same way as far as growing my locs long or shaving my head. I've had a bald head before and I loved it. It's either locs or short cut.
New subbie here. I've watched some videos of yours b4 and I don't know why I never subscribed but I just want to comment on going to a loctian. I stared my locs on April 5th during quarantine. I had just taken out some faux locs I had in since Feburary. The plan was to wear my hair in twist out and high puffs until it starts getting cold in NY again usually around November then I would get my faux locs again cause the cold and this hair do not go. I had planned on starting my locs in January after those faux locs came out with instant locs. I was gonna have who crochet my faux locs do the instant locs but I when I was in the shop back in February getting my hair done a guy was getting his locs retwisted by someone else and the amount of black gel she used was horrifying. I was never into gels with alcohol cause I know how damaging that is. I've been natural since 2014 and I learned my lesson. After I took out the faux locs I did not want to be bothered with the 5 hr long washing and detangling process more than I had to. I couldn't see myself doing a twist out to go absolutely no where special. I still had to go to work because I work in a lab in a hospital. I'm allowed to wear head wraps here so I two strand twisted my hair myself then I wore it uncovered until it stared looking bad then I wrapped it up. I was watching so many UA-cam videos and I had decided to do my1st retwist 6 weeks in but I'd wait till 8 if I could. 6 weeks came and because I had been wetting my hair then wrapping it up I had sooo many webbed and married locs. That first retwist took 8 hrs cause I had to deal with the separating. Now I have learned to separate daily or at least after my har dries when I wet it . I also do retwists more often. I've decided on once a month. That way the hair can be better trained. A friend of mine who used to have locs told me that he thinks I should find a loctian because foundation is important and blah blah blah. I pretty much know how to handle my hair and whatever I need to learn I'll learn from UA-cam... and especially now with this pandemic. I refuse to be that close to anyone that I don't have to be
Thanks so much for subscribing! Yes, separating locs after you wash them is key, especially if you’re not retwisting. I think it’s good that you’re learning to do your own locs now! It comes in handy in the future 😊
Yes!! I really feel like locs are becoming trendier. I hopped on the natural train back in 2012, I started to actually really care about my natural curls and educated myself on what was best on my hair. In college one of my closet girlfriends loc’d her hair and she described how freeing and low maintenance it was- I was so frustrated with keeping up my fro so I kept doing mini-twists and eventually loc’d up (now 10 months in)! I love my hair, I feel so much more confident now...I just feel like I’m growing into my own. I’m much happier!🙂💖
@@JaninePatrice Also yes to answer your other question-- I'd love to see a video on your weight-loss journey! I'm in the same spot and needing to make a lifestyle change.
I was going to the loctician every month, but than I starting skipping out and going every 2 months, and noticed how thiccc my hair was getting. My sister and I did our own retwist in May, but we’re going to our loctician on the 18th of this month cause it took us ALL day literally to do each others hair lol. I’m 9 mos loc’d so when my hair definitely gets to about your length, I know I’m going to start doing it myself to save on those coins lol! Your hair is getting more and more beautiful Janine! I’m definitely wanting waist length locs!
i'm 13 months comb coil to lock, i started doing my own hair 7-8 months in. got tired of telling my hair dresser to make the twist not so tight and don't palm roll my entire locs
Dread is an English word for fear,I have loc hair and I’ve never used that term. Your hair looks really healthy
yess, ever since i started my locs ive noticed so many people having locs aswell.

Locing is definitely a freeing experience! I love that you love your hair ☺️✨

Your locs are flourishing! They look so healthy and beautiful. Great video.
Thank you!

I’ve noticed the same with my locs getting thicker the further my retwists are spread apart! Thank you so much for watching ☺️✨
I started retwisting my own hair as well after covid started. And I notice that to since I had locs I see so many ppl that have locs now.
Omg it’s been forever since I saw a video of yours..UA-cam is tripping!! Your locs and you are looking lovely 💚💚
YT really is trippin! Lol thank you so much! ☺️✨
Hi fellow St. Louisian. I big chopped January 1st. I'm trying to figure out when a good time is to start my loc journey.
Heyyy! I say you should start when you feel ready. I think there are benefits and drawbacks to starting at any stage of length!
I've just started my loc journey on September 5, 2020
Welcome to the loc family! ☺️✨
You are my hair twin. Same color length and texture
i'm 13 months comb coil to lock, i started doing my own hair 7-8 months in. got tired of telling my hair dresser to make the twist not so tight and don't palm roll my entire locs
It’s def frustrating when you feel like the stylist doesn’t listen to you! I feel that
I dont retwist my own hair because i love straight parts and i cant accomplish that on my own
I def understand that! It can be hard, especially in the back.
i liked the shampooing by someone else
Haha that part is the best! 😅
