It's called a Wide receiver coach. Each position essentially has its own coach under the head coach. Tomlin needs to get his management together, or move on from the steelers. I'd have Pickens benched and tell his ass to be ready to get traded with that kind of playing.

The big secret with Tomlin is that he’s never really been a traditional head coach. He’s a product of a franchise and walked into a locker room oozing with player leadership and assistant coaches that could operate independently. He’s always been just sort of there on the sideline. He’s an enigma to any nfl fan that doesn’t follow the Steelers.

You are right that everyone will blame Tomlin, but Tomlin has allowed it so he is partially to blame too. Think back to when Cowher was HC, he benched players for stupid shit, just like the organization used to cut players that got into trouble (but not anymore). Tomlin enables behavior like Pickins’. When his selfish behavior first surfaced Tomlin wrote it off as his competitive desire to make plays. Geez. It’s the NFL. All the players are extremely competitive but are still supposed to contribute to their team winning in any way possible. Maybe they need to bring in Hines Ward as WR blocking coach.

So I want to be totally mad at Pickens... BUT YO RB GO TO THE OUTSIDE MY GUY! TOUCHDOWN! Thats low key on the RB. If he noticed Pickens position, he could have cut to the outside, defender would have bumped back into Pickens, Dive to the Pylon. But I guess, whenever it is your turn to get that work, its your turn. Lets talk about how hard he knocked the defender off balance before the play. Once again the IQ of the RB tells him he can beat 3 Defenders to the inside downhill and not even a mention? Seems like people want to dislike Pickens because of his maturity level. Love the way Tomlin handled the situation with him and the news media and his behavior. Lots of diverse thinkers and complex individuals on those football fields. Trying to grow good men within great athletes aint easy.

If you look, the guy Pickens was supposed to block gets in Warrens way as he is lunging for the end zone. Agreed Pickens is a lazy slug and needs parked. But the other obnoxious thing in this clip is James Daniels (78) who goes through the line and does nothing as the inevitable tackler runs right past him. I certainly don’t know their blocking scheme, but this would appear to have been his responsibility. If he blocks like he should, even a little rub, we wouldn’t even be talking about Pickens. They both need to be in the XFL.

This is all interesting if you have nothing else to do. What really matters is that Pickens admitted that he didn't make the block because he doesn't want to get hurt. So you have a player who decides for himself what plays he wants to make. He should be cut immediately. Maybe he would be happy in a girl's pickleball league. No reason to have a player taking up a slot when he isn't dependable to even try.

Yes there was some lack of effort shown on this play but I strongly disagree with the notion coming from a lot of Steelers fans that this situation was worse than Diontae Johnson’s situation. He clearly made an initial attempt to block but just failed to finish the play. Comparing this to DJs situation is not an apples to apples comparison. It’s not even apples to oranges! We are not even in the fruit category! DJs situation was way worse. That was a fumble/turnover situation first of all and he did absolutely nothing on the play! You are trained from little league “ankle biters” to be all over a loose football like white on rice. Additionally, people need to stop acting like they didnt also see Pickens lay defenders out in the past while blocking for his teammates. Oh how we forget that highlight reel! Pickens is only 22 years old! He is just a boy who has some maturing to do. Diontae is a seasoned vet so there is no excuse. Furthermore at least when Pickens is thrown the ball particularly in critical moments of the game he catches it! We cannot say the same for Diontae Dropson! Not condoning the lack of effort but just want to put everything in context for those who want to over exaggerate the situation and say he is worse than DJ. Pickens just needs a new coach and a new quarterback and hopefully by next year we get both!

Pickens is 6'3+ and he let a 6'0 Defensive Back out jump him for a pass! And the DB was BEHIND Pickens!! Pickens just doesn't seem to give 100%!
      Like what's been said before:
the NFL stands for "Not For Long" if he keeps up that attitude!

    These guys are all frustrated.
This offense was terrible last year…yet has tremendous potential.
This is all due to Mediocre Mike, the same as it was with Ben, Bell, Brown and Bryant. This coach is long overdue to be replaced. He has not done shit for over a Decade. His record is all due to a HOF QB and a HOF Defense Coordinator and Bill Cowher’s players. They talk about “Game Manager QB’s”…well Tomlin is a “Game Manager Coach”…but manages to loose to inferior opponents.
Look up Coach’s with his amount of tenure and compare his record against teams 0.500 or less to the greats. That will tell you all you need to know and it’s not pretty. When your record against terrible teams sets you apart from the rest of that coaching tree…you should hang it up.
But because he’s a successful black coach…he’s sorta protected by his color. Like it or not…it’s the absolute truth and finally it’s starting to get talked about.
    I don’t want him fired…he doesn’t deserve that embarrassment.
He should simply resign and start fresh or retire.

    • @BiggienSportsNetwork
      @BiggienSportsNetwork  Рік тому

The motion on this play was designed to force the defense to stay home on the backside. It was to make them take a half second to diagnose what's happening allowing the offense a chance for leverage against the defenders. It does initially hold the backer who makes the tackle for a split second, but the line just whiffed the block

Steeler nation put all there faith in a rookie quarterback and a rookie receiver and by doing so lost the faith of the veterans on the team and warren is way better player then Harris. the whole offensive concept is built around three players Pickett pickens and Harris as first reads . Pickens and Harris should sit rest of the season. individual stats means nothing team stats is all that count.and winng season is making it to the Superbowl period

But his attitude and lack of effort are a cancer and he needs to go if he doesn't change his ways. I would be willing to bet he asks for a trade after the season and I say good riddance.
