    Greatly enjoyable, thank you for sharing. Is the crankcase basically the same for the 659, 696, 796 and 1100 air-cooled engines?

      @bradthebikeboy  7 місяців тому +2

      659, 696 and 796 are the same engine with different cranks and pistons. 1100 is a big block, so it's a little different, but they're all just glorified pantahs. even the 4v engines pre plain mains are much the same thing.

    Thanks. Another great video to bookmark for future reference. Does oiling up the bolt holes affect the tightening torque for the screws at all?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  7 місяців тому +1

      don't know. ex factory the screws all have sealant on the threads, so they're certainly lubricated to some extent on installation. i certainly wouldn't put them in dry personally.

      @@bradthebikeboySorry! I should have checked first 🤦 Just looked in my 1100 manual and the 25Nm figure is for lubricated threads. 👍

    Hi Brad, Thanks for the video. One question, why not put the sealant on after you have the crank, gearbox etc. in the case so you are not under time pressure?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  7 місяців тому

      there's no time pressure. even with the shift drum being funny it was still less than 10 minutes to getting it together. doing the goop last just has you standing around waiting. btdt.

      it's not maintenance. yes it's expensive.

    Good vid! Would you have one done for shafts shimming ( and rambling)?
    Btw, love you engine stand...home made it right?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  7 місяців тому

      the shimming video is up to editing. for a couple of reasons it stopped and started a couple of times and it's going to be an editing nightmare. editing takes hours for some of these. this one was very quick, depends how easy to went when i filmed it, and how much mindless drivel i have to cut out or try to make sense of.
      the engine stand was made by thomas hauge on the 851/888 forum years ago. he did a group build. it's a good thing. i might steal an idea from leigh farrell and fit an old sprocket to the mount bracket and a sliding pin so it can be locked in many positions easily. much easier than getting that pin in (which was my frustrated mod one day). it's meant to have the two clamp screws tightened to hold it, which takes way too much time to deal with for my increasingly short attention span.

    Great vid, this is exactly what I needed as I am going to go through this exact process by my self... However I am now at stage where I have pretty much everything ready to go, but want to blast and paint the cases. What would ya recommend? Vapor blast, soda blast, glass bead? I consulted some yt mechanic and he said sandblasting is okay, as long as you clean everything afterwards.

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  7 місяців тому

      vapour/hydro blasting (sandblasting with water instead of air) leaves a more durable surface finish that is brighter and more closed (smoother) than dry media blasting. i'd do that. you need to remove all bearings, seals and plugs from the cases before having it done, and clean them well afterwards. cleaning with water instead of air helps remove more debris due to the extra viscosity. you could then paint them if you wanted to.

      @@bradthebikeboy Thanks! I also have an idea of washing oil galleries with solvents before blasting, so no specs have anything to grab onto, plug them up too...

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  7 місяців тому

      @@giedriusbruzas6542 cleaning couldn't hurt. i wouldn't plug them - let it all get blasted through, esp if hydro blasting.
