Science Club of Fitwi /Fthi Junior School, Akriya, Eritrea, set up by Matiewas Ghebrechristos.

I visited Matiewas's Science Club in 2009, after hearing about his work from VSO volunteer teacher educators in Asmara. He had set up the club himself, despite local resistance to opening the school at the weekend. Once they saw how much their children were learning, parents began to support and provide resources for the club. When I visited, students were preparing for approaching end of year exams using a cooperative learning strategy that Matiewas had developed independently with his learners, one that showed similarities to Slavin's STAD technique (see here: en.wikipedia.o.... Since posting this video, Matiewas has seen it, and was very pleased with it. He's now looking for videos of creative science. So anybody travelling to Eritrea, please take him some useful videos.
