WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY: How we fabricated and assembled FINAL DRIVE and RETURN ROLLERS for the Panzer I
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 бер 2024
- We have a lot of original parts for this vehicle but not a lot of running gear (Final Drive and Return Rollers)... so the boys are going to have to make it from scratch!
This is a running PANZER I Ausf. B (1 of only 6 in the world).
Follow the progress of our workshop restorations every Workshop Wednesday! A must watch for students of history, engineering, mechanics and metalworking! 🧐🛠️

I don't know what I'd do without my weekly fix of AusArmor on Hump Day. Many thanks and much respect, Gentlemen.
Exactly! Sometimes I have a busy start to my week and I forget, but I'm so happy when it pops up on my UA-cam page on Wednesday. Love watching them fabricate!
Yes, agree!
You know Daz sits in it making tank noises when everyone else is at lunch.
Its a job requirement.
Brumm,Brumm ! Yep love it! 😂🤣
Well, we now know Daz can make Panzer I sounds but can he do Sherman and Panther imitations? 😉
My grandpa always said with a wink... You got to stay young at heart! :)
I just love Workshop Wednesday up until the music starts in the background. Then I know it's coming to an end, & a wave of sadness hits me. Then I remember Jason will be back on Friday. Thanks, team, for walking me through the assembly of the final drive and return rollers, I found it really interesting, Thanks as airways. Cheers
I gotta respect the skill level of all the team..👍👍
When this thing finally runs around the track - your sense of pride will be 50meters high.
Hate the music, means the video is coming to the end. Outstanding as ever.
It comes way to quick.
I was going to post the same comment about the music, I get sad knowing the episode is coming to an end. Wish they did longer episodes and more often.
But then we would be spoiled, wouldn't we?@@KaitlynnUK

Always great to watch, what my forefathers invented, drawed and built! I am a skilled German metal worker (takes 3.5 years to get one). In Germany you learn drawing and reading draws, how and why metals behave like they do. 2 days at school and 3 days at work in your company. So, we always know why we do what we do.
Your forefathers were heroes
@@royalblood2405Thank you! But no! They were no heroes and did a lot of sh*t. But many Germans learnt from these faults. Yes, we had great engineers! Most modern tanks worldwide are based on the Panther.
@@Cadfael007 nah, they were heroes. Have some pride
@@royalblood2405 Your wehraboo is showing...
@@obsidianjane4413 not quite, I'm just not ignorant of history
My fav youtube channel. Pity I have to wait another 7 days for another episode.
Great work guys, I loved Darryl’s engine noises 😂 what a job to get all those parts made to within 2/3 Mls, outstanding.👍
Big boys, big toys! Highest level of modeling in1:1 scale. T(h)anks for sharing knowledge!
Love my Wednesday fix.
I have very bad diarrhea
Ahhh, got my fix! I totally love the minutia of how everything is designed, manufactured, and installed!
Y’all are MASTERS of the expression:
“Adapt …. Overcome “🤠👍🏽
You forgot to growl like Gunny Sgt Highway and say,
Improvise,
Adapt,
Overcome!

You are correct sir.
I forgot part of the phrase🤠
@@TX-biker It happens! The best way to remember it is to picture him all camoed up and saying it!
Improvise,
Adapt,
Overcome!
Fantastic work! I doubt even the German engineers would quibble much over the sprocket being 1.0 mm out! The attention to detail and the fabrication skills of this team are a pleasure to watch each week. A great big thumbs up to you guys from the East Coast of the USA!
Just what I have been waiting for today
12 years ago, I worked in commercial plumbing and heating supplies, selling things like those pipe reducers. Never did i imagine I'd see them used on a Panzer
fantastic work - real nice to see the boys not phased or defeated at having to replicate parts that look so original, very inspiring
Awesome work as always - turning steel into gold1👏
GUYS. I've got a massive pile of rubble here. Any chance of building a nice villa from it? !! 😂
Turning scrap into something so amazing is something you guys should be proud of. Jessie, Daryl and Bo' particularly. I bet most watchers of your videos agree whole heartedly. Thanks for the entertainment and craftsmanship. 🙂
I’m in engineering school right now and I can’t emphasize enough how much these videos give me motivation for a chance of doing design work like this one day
The "find randome stuff to build my random thing" is the hardest part of custom projects.
But when it all comes together in your head, then the screen, the bench..
Then mounting it, seeing it in place.
Is rewarding in So many ways.
I can't imagine how you must reel knowing you're creative problem solving will be Part of the history imbued in this vehicle; that you get to breathe life back into lost pieces of valour... and loss.
Gotta love those aussies....
Eyepro, workboots, longsleeves.... _shorts_.
What a class.
Saved my Wednesday😀.......Love those Guys👍👍👍......all the best from Germany👍👍👍
If only I was not in France...
What a perfect job !
Muito legal o conteúdo do canal, acompanhado tudo aqui do Brazil!
The guys obviously understand about proper lubrication when trying to fit things in. Which reminds me, maybe I could use one of those cans as bedroom decor.
My favorite way to start a Wednesday. As usual, great work on the part of everyone. Good
luck with the rest of the week. 😎
I would love to work there for a year just for all the experience and so much stuff to learn from these guys. Greets from 🇳🇱
I look forward to every new video from aus armour!
Thank you guys for another brilliant episode, it is incredible what you can manufacture inhouse, very impressiv.
It is crazy how dedicated you guys are to bringing these old warhorses back to life!
Hi guys, another great video on whst you are doing in the restorations, I will be up there in mid April for a look around, firdt time back in six years, cheers from a Kiwi living in Melbourne
Love your videos and appreciate all your heart work! Cheers from Germany
Fantastic job, love your videos and admire the dedication of your mechanics. I look forward to further progress on your projects. Czechia
Brilliant insights. Such a great show, as always, Kurt.
I'm now convinced you guys have the best job in the world. The knowledge and skill are simply outstanding 👍
Tanks
@Kurt do you think there's a possibility to make the videos like twice as long? Really getting into the nitty-gritty is something magical to me, and I'm sure to alot of other folks would love that too, though I can't speak for anyone else but me of course. I just really enjoy watching the dirty details of what goes in to restoring these vehicles. Cheers, and thanks to you all for pubilising these videos at all! ❤
Kurt props to you as well, my friend you do a great job 👏
A wee tip mate , Husqvarna has a piece of foam(drenched in oil or grease) taking up the space outside the distance between the bearings outside the distance piece so when pulls the shaft out the distance piece do not fall down providing one with a problem...lightweight an' very clevver...
Very talented. Good use of the concentric weld reducer.
The amazing way Daryl and Jes work together is such a wonderful thing to watch as they both create a glimpse back in time when the machines were in use, thank you to all the team - I cannot get enough of your work
Been watching Jesse's tattoo sleeve progressions over many episodes, very nice! I know where all his money is going!
It's looking like proper running-gear, it is! Good progress.
Jess is a "Raptors" Fan???
👋👋👋 from Canada...
💪💪💪
I do like the Panzer 1.
The cinematography and music selected, along with the dedication of the crew rebuilding these “weapons of war” are a testament to preserving a visual and tactile example of our past struggles to preserve a free world for every inhabitant. Thank you!
However, this relic was engineered and still stands as an item that had nothing to do with "past struggles to preserve a free World for every inhabitant".
@@BTW... True, yet without an example of context history would just live in the minds of the living. This sort of thinking from you reminds me of the dolts who tore down the statues of our forefathers and confederate soldiers. Remember, the past had an impact on peoples lives…both good and bad! Nothing is harder to reconstruct than a memory!
@@stephenreese5921 I see even better now... the statues erected long after the events as a manner of territorial marking in the Deep South (we got a similar 'Deep North' here full of ignorant bigots) for the value of intimidation over the historic abolition of slavery post Jim Crow. Own that shameful history, gassy.
I love watching the troops making these parts for the old battle wagons. Wednesdays are a must these days. :)
I just love and admire how they bring these old warriors back to life.
Outstanding video and presentation.
Kinda need to see a Toronto Rapters hat being worn . I am from there
Nice Raptors cap! Greetings from Ontario Canada!
Using a pipe reducer as the conical final drive housing is hella clever.
Workshop when-a-sss-day!
Oh come on! Next Wednesday! I am ready for the next video now...work shop Wednesday should be Monday to Friday. Fascinating stuff to see the components being built and put together.
It's clear to see why these magicians are working at AusArmor ! Awesome !!
Incredible, that you re-engineered the drive from scratch. And you probably made it much easier to produce than the Germans way back.
Flawed "re-engineering" that is. The original designers wouldn't have made such fundamental errors.
7 days wouldn't be complete, without a Workshop Wednesday. 👍
Where is the tech who wears the skin tight Spandex pants?
Thank you guys for these epic series. One of the things I'm really excited for a new release of every week :)
Nicely done👍
Really enjoying the work going into this build and it's amazing what you are doing with so little, building and fabricating what you need because it just does not exist anymore. looking forward to the day it drives out of the workshop.
Excellent outcomes all over the joint, fan-bloody-tastic to see. The work on the return roller brackets was #chefskiss. Nice one gents!
Your workmanship is amazing.
Thank you guys for sharing this with us. Wonderful 😊
That hub for the drive sprocket is a marvellous piece of work. I congratulate the person who worked out the design. I find I get amazed at the complexity of the machinery of a tank, which will suffer all sorts of abuse during its working life.
I absolutely love this channel hand down!!!! I love the background music but hate when you hear it again because you know it’s coming to an end -makes me want to visit Australia
Thx again for all the hard work
Thinking outside the box is a necessary talent when working on anything old.
Pipe reducers, LOL!!!
Hey everyone. Hope you all had a great day. And hope life is treating you well.
😢
It's remarkable in how far in less than a decade the Panzer force went. Park a Pz I and a VIB next to each other...
Excellent work Jess & Dazzle! 👍😃! Hey Jess - you reckon you could fabricate a new tooth for Darryl? Maybe case hardened armour plate or some such?
That video was the fastest 20 minutes ever ! 5 or 10 minutes more would be awesome Kurt ! Have a good weekend boys.
Dear Guys,
You sometimes leave me behind -after watching your vlogs- with a huge feeling of frustration because first of all I’m very impressed by you compassion, eyes for details, dedication and love for bringing historical army vehicles in your museum as a jewel of restoration art and fully running and driving. It’s just frustrating for me that I won’t be able anymore to visit your museum so I therefore have to cope with your vlogs what’s a kind of consolation for me.
I therefore look forward to your next vlog and send you love from The Netherlands
Really nice fabricating, that Pz 1 will be perfect.😃
Loving this build more than all the others, it's going to look amazing.
Very impressive engineering, I love the use of the pipe reducer, awesome.
Great restoration work as always !. Thank you guys for posting every videos.
Just a thought the cast support shaft housing that you had to rebuild/ manufacturer, looks very similar to some parts on old disk plows/offsets, the cast disk spacers are reasonably priced new and old ones even cheaper might even save you a few hours in build time . Really enjoying the rebuild and a bit of i reckon we can make this adapt and work attitude well done crew .
Wow, truly incredible design & engineering to produce those parts 👏
I really believe you blokes could make a silk purse out of a sows ear.👍🇦🇺
Great video
The ability to engineer and build that assembly from nothing is mind boggling.
Первый панцер такой смешной в сравнении с последним) Отличная работа, как всегда!👍
Damn good job gents!!!
Keep making more please!!
Always awesome vídeos!!!!!
Congrats from Brasil!
Amazingly talented crew.
Always impressed with your work. I had always thought the Stug III had a double sprocket drive wheel, like most WW2 German tanks.
It's getting there.
I wish there was more Wednesdays in a week love seeing this every Thursday morning about 3 am
Im up early this morning fir this ... yayyy
Up late in the Pacific NorthWest. :)
Absolutely amazing team 👍
Daryl is not just a carpenter, think of him as a high class carpenter! Your mechanical magicians are amazing. I just hate the waiting a week for my next Workshop fix! If I lived several thousand miles closer I'd be there volunteering daily ... sadly, it's a bit of a commute from Alaska ... LOL See y'all next week.
Good job Guys! 🤔👍
A great insight into the engineering involved. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant, practical, effective and efficient.
The fastest 20 minutes on UA-cam!
Love the variety of vehicles we see getting some TLC at AusArmour. From a giant Tiger to baby Goliath and everything in between.
Now that’s some brilliant Auzzie fix-it improvisation. Atta go gentlemen!
It is amazing to me you even have the small number of parts you have. The Panzer I was really only a developmental and training vehicle, though they did see combat in the Spanish Civil War and the early years of WWII. They were mostly gone before war's end, so it will be great to see a rebuilt one driving around.
Couldn't help myself and jumped online to see what the original final drive looked like. Superb job guys!
Fantastic work Darryl, from some photos and incomplete diagrams, a few measurements and lots of try it and see you got an incredible result! Well done mate, and its not even food for termites!🇦🇺👍😂🤣
Love the sound effects, how could you not be a kid in a tank shop!?
