Nice of Dmitry to fly the Australian flag in honour of your visit.
I thought the same, respect 🙏
Yeah loved seeing that 🎉
Czechs and Aussies fought together in many battles.
Dmitry is a legend! I was stoked to see that, what a good dude!
Dimitri seems to be one of those wonderful characters with an endless array of stories, lovely fella to have helped you with parts and his knowledge.
A portable 3D scanner would be a great help in this case. It would give you a lot more references of all the available parts remaining.
Or a ruler and combination square 😂
I think the same, scan all scrap parts and next translate to CAD or whatever 3D program.
iPhone pro and iPad Pro have LiDAR scanners in them that would build a decent model before investing in a nice dedicated scanner.
@@kevinharrington9110iPhone LiDAR is nowhere near as accurate as a dedicated 3D scanner.
It would take a lot of projects like this to justify the cost. But it would make it easy to copy most of the exterior dimensions of the one in Bovington since it is the reference for the Tamiya 222.
Dmitri seems like a very cool guy. Very cool of him to have our Australian flag on display too. Poles and Czechs seem like awesome people who are really welcoming of us Aussies.
Is there a country that doesn't like aussies?. Except maybe your direct neighbors as that is universal.
@@baskoller5506 I think the only nations that really dislike us are China, Fiji (bizarre story, there was a coup there and the coup leaders demanded Australia send troops to sure-up their control, of course we didn't send troops) and New Zealand during rugby games.
@@baskoller5506 haha us Kiwis love aussies, we just have diffeent ways of showing it. if kiwis and aussies are nice to you, then you know we dont really like you.
That build is a craftsmen kit! Only a true craftsmen could even start the project. That was another great field trip! We want to see more footage!!!!
Deda mi vyprávěl že když byl malej kluk bylo mu 11 tak puma 221 stala u neseho domu ❤😊 děkuji preji pekny den Martin z České republiky 😊
You guys know the most Interesting people.
His story about re-enactment; "I love it" & "never again " was pure gold, and reminds me of every Great hobby on earth; we All know that high but exhausted dichotomy.
Dimitri seems like a really great guy. This sounds like a very complicated restoration.
Seeing this pile of scrap out in the elements in that bin is not something most people would see as being a viable project. Hats off to the brave skilled OzArmor team.
really fun seeing you network with other "madmen" who keep history alive!
G'day from WA 😎 A great write-up and a ton of pictures of the SdKfz 221 on 'tanks-encyclopedia' written on July 2022. Also includes a link to a video that shows a bit of the insides and some clues to the floor at 3:33.
How good is Alan at stick welding, so lucky to have his experience in all aspects of the job , how lucky are you to have people like Dmitry help with parts etc, thanks for another great update
As your comment suggests you might know a bit about stick welding...
In a couple of shots, after a weld was completed Al took a hammer and knocked off a ridge of built up material, revealing the weld underneath.
Could I impose on you to provide a quick explanation of what was happening exactly? (example at 14:25 ) What is the built up material he was knocking off? Surely it wasn't part of the metal weld.
I've seen plenty of video of people welding before, but I don't recall ever seeing anyone knock off a ridge of material like that. Usually they have to take a grinder to get the weld flat.
Thanks.
That's the slag layer formed by the flux in the rod. Normal process in stick welding
@@silentotto5099 What Al was removing was known as Slag Stick welding rods are not used with gas but have a covering of flux material to prevent oxygen contaminating the weld leading to porosity and weak welds and what ou see was how the flux coating protects the weld keeping it's integrity.
Back say 40 years ago welding equipment was AC alternating current to stick weld and it was not an easy task welding rods would often stick when trying to start an Arc and it was a special skillset to get it right, Nowadays with Inverter technology we more often use DC Direct current and it is much more controlable and easier to weld much easier to strike the arc which is when you bring the stick welding rod close enough for an arc to start the welding process but not too close the rod welds itself to the base metal you are welding.
Still a vital process as for instance Piprlines such as water , Gas or Fuel are still Stick or as it is known MMA or Manual Metal Arc welded and Pipeline welders are certified and obviously the weld must be perfect as say for instance it may be the cooling pipes for an Atomic Reactor, Failure is not an option so such certified Pipeline Welders earn big money.
For instance welders that weld the Hulls of Hyundai ships actually get paid about one third of what the CEO of Hyundai Shipbuilding Corporation gets paid it is a vital and specialised field and the modern world could not exist without these people and their skillsets
@@stephencox4224 Thank you. That's exactly what I wanted to know.
@@itchy108 Thanks.
It's great to see that there are so many people from all around the world who are willing to invest their time into rebuilding history. One weld at time in most cases. Thank you to all of you involved and God bless.
This channel becomes more interesting than the Tank Museum day by day. The stuff you do for a living is just amazing. This is some really educational content, that you provide.
Bovington has some good content, but I wish they'd copy this series idea.
@@frostedbutts4340 yes I agree, I would love for them to do something similar. Hopefully they are watching this channel and getting ideas.
You guys are absolutely priceless. Thank you for all the hard work preserving world history.
I'm surprised that no original engineering drawings of this vehicle exist anywhere, they could help a great deal. Looks like you've got quite the challenge ahead of you. Looking forward to seeing the next instalment in your journey.
Yes between the bombing, deliberate destruction of documents and plans then the general confusion after the war a lot of info was lost forever.
@@frostedbutts4340and a lot of people did not see the value in documents of out-of-production, military vehicles from a lost war.
Another fantastic Workshop Wednesday and Alan is a very talented man.
Al makes the prettiest dang welds. That fella is an artist!
These episodes are never long enough. Great video guys!
It is great to see the beginning of another amazing restoration. How long were you guys
in the Czech Republic?
Niczym puzzle 😊. Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski 🇵🇱👍
What remarkable work fitting a broken Jigsaw puzzle back together ,How fascinating and exciting this is to watch this work being done ,all the while transcribing notes to actual pieces
Nice that Dimitri share all Information he got.
Demitry is just living his dream, that is awesome. Al is a stupendously talented craftsman. i enjoyed watching both of them talk about stuff and things.
Every video I watch, I'm blown away by the level of research, attention to detail, and craftsmanship that goes into the vehicle projects.
With the amount of rebuild work and OEM parts to replicate, would having a handheld laser scanner like Panzer farm have help in any way
Such fun, a true rare critter. It's a pity that none of the originals still exist.
The WW2 German scout cars were all pretty cool. Really fun to play some of them on WT. 👏🏻
Just began to watch your videos, first thing I learned was update my tetenis shot. Keep up the good work, it will last for several more generations.
This is really what I call a lego puzzle for adults. Nice!
One of those portable 3d Scanner units might be a worthwhile purchase for the museum. It could save (or augment) all that hand-measuring of complex shapes like the turret sides, chassis etc...
I concur. For cast parts and general layout it would be a game changer. You don't even need hand measurement at all in this case as it would be leagues ahead of using a tape/square.
In their video of the Polish guys restoring a Tiger, they were using 3D scans which they then edited to reproduce clean CAD.
Impeccable welding at the end!
Seems like Dimitri is and will be a great asset for you guys. Can't wait to see what other treasures he has to show off, as well as let you measure and record in the future...
Dimitri is a dead-set legend 👍
I can’t wait till next Wednesday. I love the builds and this true engineering.
This is going to be a great project to follow. You have a great group of men working at your museum. Thank you, and Cheers from Texas.
Very cool. I had the Airfix reconnaissance model kit of the 222
I see that Australian - European relations are going well
Hope they get the thing together, it's such a cool little vehicle.
Your museum is on my bucketlist!
Dmitri is such a lovely bloke. Would love to see more of him on the channel.
You guys are unstoppable!
Greetings from Brazil
Great to see. Good luck Al.
Didn't see an Aussie drinking beer. How come? I guess good editing.
Drank it so fast the camera couldn't catch it.
awesome to be able to watch this build in progress
Wow that is an incredible project to put together without a surviving vehicle for reference.Dimitry is an awesome person to have for his knowledge and parts.Cant wait to see its progress cheers mates.
this is possibly one of my favourite German war time vehicles, sadly so few about - its an odd thing isn't it, that after the war with de Nazification led to scrapping of so much metal and so few of these examples survive making them worth so much more today and very sort after - this will be another incredible set of videos to rebuild a SdKfz 221
TBH I like seeing the jigsaw puzzle being welded into a hull of the vehicles.
Thanks for another great episode !. Can't wait to see this Jigsaw puzzle come to its completion !.
Woooooooow, That's more than a restoration! It's more like a rebirth. I doubt most shops would even attempt this rebuild. It's amazing, and truly awesome, you guys are doing it!
Thanks Team, I was actually the first person to open this episode, I feel privileged to have done so. I just love Workshop Wednesday and now we have another new project. Cheers
Dimitri appears to be sent by an Angel! You guys have taken on another huge project😊
You guys are mad !! ..... just love it
I love projects like these, true jigsaw puzzles, and in three dimensions!
I hope it will get Afrika-Corps decoration at the end.👍
KOOL 😎 , will be a very interesting project to see come together , would be great if a model was made by some company to maybe help !
Another really classic vehicle. Really looking forward to seeing this one come together. Interesting to see the base material for restorations now - wreckage that has lain at the side of a field or been dug out of the ground. When you think that there was so much that was wholly or near complete that went to the furnace ....
Wow what a very interesting project. Al and Beau have certainly got their work cutout on this restoration. Looking forward to your next update. Thank you for sharing.
Those pretzels remind me of my visit to Berlin, and I used to have a 0.5ltr of Warsteiner and a couple of huge pretzels.
I am astonished at y’all’s skills and perseverance! I was getting anxious just looking at all those pieces, angles and parts.
Can’t wait to see when it’s done!
Marvelous visit ... from Stamps to Armored vehicles. Fantastic .. what a smashing chap Dimitri is flying the flag for you guys. Got your work cut out with this jigsaw puzzle but I know if anyone can do it Al is THE man. Looking forwards to progress reports !
Brilliant stuff.
Wow
Amazing work
another great episode, thanks.
Brilliant video! Thank you!
You guys do a brilliant job!
Al sure is a pretty good welder! Are you welding it together with stainless rod or steel? Keep up the good work team I always look forward to your videos!
Вітання Вам , з Дніпра :) Файні козаченьки.
Excellent video thanks 👍 👍
Great. Thank you.
Thanks to you all.... another facinating film.
Amazing research and work done by all.
Bloody good luck to you, Al. That's going to be a sod to put everything together.
Loving all that you do.
Was my long time favourite in war thunder! So seeing this getting restored is nice.
Greetings from czech republic, I love your job. Keep it up ^^
Amazing work. you guys make the impossible possible.
I enjoy the history you are restoring for us to enjoy. Thank You 😊
This will be an interesting project to follow and see thru. Thank you for the video and update.
Kurt, these vids are too short. Love everyone's individual work that make AA&AM so interesting.
Fantasticwork men
Looking forward to seeing this piece come together. Looks like quite the challenge to assemble this with such little amounts of technical detail. Great content as always, keep up the good work!
I dare say you guys have a dream job...but...you have also taken on a huge undertaking to be the custodians of preservation for generations to come. Love your work...keep it coming
Great video! This is going to be a great project to follow!
Awesome video, such high quality production and fantastic skills on display by all involved.
Looking forward to this one.
Another one off, last of its kind beauty - I don't know how do you keep doing this, but I'm surely glad that you do! 👏👏👏
Awwww cute kitten at 10:55
Amazing restoring these vehicles the heros of history used
You guys must be great at jig saw puzzles. i really look forward to Workshop Weds. Thank you
incredible work at both ends of the world by incredibly talented restorers
Dear Guys,
I keep being amazed by your skills and drives for restoring or completely rebuilding WW2 vehicles and other army equipment. That some parts were made as kind of a mission impossible at that time is even more amazing. I really regret I won’t be in the position ever to visit your war museum that’s why I’m always hungry for a next vlog of yours.
Send you love from the Netherlands
It's "Allo Allo" series Lt. Grubers tank.
Zase paráda,už dlouho dlouho na vás koukám.Aleš,Česká republika.
You can tell this is a labor of love for Dmitri.
Keep up the good work! Greatings from Germany.
Looks cool when you get this frame together guess you can do the floor up to how it makes sense
This channel is one of my favorites. I am not an armor or artillery expert. But I find the restoration process fascinating and entertaining and educational. Have you guys thought about investing in one of those handheld 3D scanners and use that for measuring some of the pieces like that turret? It would eliminate missing some key measurements and can be imported into CAD to get more precise angles, etc.
Beuatifull and Amazong work! Congrats from brazil
I think this will an incredibly difficult project. It will take patience and skill something the boys at Oz Armour excel at .
Hey AusArmour. Love your work 👍
Great field job mates. That is a lot of data to try and collect. Suggestion would be to use a hand 3D scanner to pull in initial data for CAD. It does save time and can be as accurate as measuring. Can't wait for next week and Al putting all the small pieces together.
