    Project Management is about People and if a PM doesn't realize that on day 1, they will fail. All PM needs to realize that there is a crucial disconnect between the way projects are planned and the real world behavior of resources. People get sick, other projects and their day jobs compete with the schedule, certain individuals underperform. Project management is really about people,and when you know that, you realise that managing the time of those people is critical.

      I’ve always said that the key to everything in management is the people my manager was so metric driven and clueless about the dept and people she was managing. When I switched departments my manager focuses on the people alot more and shocker she gets the same levels of productivity from her people without abusing them.

      @@cringesh1t427 I don’t believe you have terrible people skills ☺️. You may just be unsure of yourself and that’s ok and normal. Your receptionist skills are transferable as a PM. When it comes to communicating, you can only communicate clearly what you understand. Always remember that. As a PM you’re not the expert. You learn from the folks that have to do the work. Start building relationships through curiosity. Connect with the experts on the team that do the work. It will help with understanding, understanding will give you confidence and confidence will help with your overall communication. You got this!

    Agree with you. You don’t need PMP or any certification to become a project manager. However, I do think you need certain skills. The biggest one is communication. It’s all about keeping the customers happy regardless of what your company tells you in regards to the project. However, with that said there are many advantages you can get from some form of training. Especially for project documentation.

    • @UlyssiaGayle

    Alota people wanna be PM without realising that you need expertise in a specific sector. I am a Construction Pm for instance. Your skills and experience needs to be suited to the sector. You can never become a Construction PM without prior experiences in building. How do you manage a Project you know nothing about ? Am pretty sure prior experience, qualification and skills are recommended for landing the role.

    • @UlyssiaGayle

      I understand where you’re coming from. However, there are entry level roles in every sector. You learn and grow through experience that 9 times out of 10 can be learned on the job. No one goes in knowing everything. If you are new to a sector/industry you should always do your due diligence to identify knowledge gaps and ask for mentorship from peers or from management.

    • @UlyssiaGayle
      @UlyssiaGayle  Рік тому +1

      At my company our projects are either technical or research specific. We have every client fill out an intake form listing their org/project goals so that we can get a better understanding on how they’re planning on using the final deliverables. This helps our analysts come prepared with additional questions on our scope call.
      If your company doesn’t have a similar project process, I would look to creating an doc with a list of scoping/discovery questions to ensure every project is successful. I also would recommend having the main stakeholder send over important info BEFORE the project starts.
