    honestly, you gotta make it where it’s comfortable for you and it looks professional

    The pinky shouldn't be exactly on top of the bow, rather slightly on the player's side. Also there is nothing wrong with putting the thumb on the leather instead of the gap between leather and the frog.

    i’m in my advanced orchestra and my pinky looks so bad when i look at it 😭 my grip on it tightens so it curves into a u. how do i fix this

      If I understand, I think the pinky should curve, but the tip should press directly into the end of the bow

      Its not that hard if your passionate in trying to actually LEARN how to play Violin. Maybe you're half-determined to learn it thats why your struggling right now. Trust me just trust the process, and try to find ways on how to make your practices fun because if its boring you'll get bored and will eventually quit playing violin(most likely). I've been playingviolin for over 3.5 years now. And ive mastered it.

      I would recommend marking the scales with fret tape for a guide. A good instructor and/or book helps.

      Also for maintenance: tighten the bow but don't touch the hairs, rub it with violin rosin until it can vibrate the strings well. Loosen tension on the bow and clean the violin when finished playing. Be careful not to touch the bow hair as the oils stain it and prevent the rosin from sticking and if you don't loosen the tenson on the bow when done it can damage the bow.

      @@randybrown2220What do you mean by loosen tension? I am very beginner and was unable to understand the terminology. Could you please let me know from where I can learn the basics like how to start, how to do maintenance rtc

    • @randybrown2220
      @randybrown2220 Місяць тому

      Once you finish playing loosen the bow so there is no tension on the hairs. Prolonged tension can cause the bow to warp.

    Is it the same grip when playing violin bow on guitar?

    • @music-4-humans
      @music-4-humans  Рік тому +3

      Good question! I've never "seriously" used a bow on my guitar, but I would assume that because of the stance, the bow grip will be more similar to the Cello Bow Grip than the violin one.

    • @randybrown2220
      @randybrown2220 4 місяці тому

      I would not recommend playing guitar with a bow. The metal strings damage the bow and restringing is about as expensive as the bow itself.

    I've been playing the violin for 5 years and realized my grip is hella bad how do i reprogram myself to get a good grip on the bow

    • @music-4-humans
      @music-4-humans  11 місяців тому

      That is such a great question! Reprogramming is the right word, you have to practice easy stuff like open strings or easy pieces that you already have mastered to that you can put your entire focus on your right hand. Break your right hand technique down into easy to practice exercise. I would suggest starting with your Thumb position and grip. It's the base of everything. It you "Pinch" or "Over grip" the bow with your Thumb everything will be tensed. I hope that helps! 🎻
