This is spot on! The horizontal shoulders are key to a good lat connection.

Thank you for the insight, Dan! You bring up a great point about connection, specifically as it relates to the lats. I will definitely need to do a video on engagement of the lats and core as means of connecting feet and handle. Keep the comments coming. As you know firsthand through coaching... there are so many things to cover when it comes to really high level technique on the rowing machine. - Luke

I am adding this suggestion to the cue. In the meantime, the quickest and best piece of advice I can offer is: don't get too focused on breathing. In a certain sense, if you don't notice your breathing, all is well. IF you DO notice your breathing and you feel out of sync, the most important thing you can do is forcefully exhale for one or two strokes at the finish of the stroke. Right when the handle comes to the body, exhale. It helps empty the lungs, so new air can enter, it helps relax any tension you have in the body, and helps reset breathing as we venture on to the next stroke. Thank you for commenting and thanks for the suggestion! - Luke

    Thanks for this!
Also, I can’t believe that the designer of the cabinet behind you thought it wouldn’t need a center support for that bottom piece that runs along the front. “It is fine as it is. It’s only six feet long. How could it possibly droop?”

What an oddly wonderful comment on a rowing how to video! Little secret: it's actually a Murphy Bed... the cabinet look is just an optical illusion. But, don't tell anyone... ha - Luke
