If the fuel gauge in your truck is erratic or reading past full, then your fuel level sending unit is malfunctioning or has failed. 1995 Ford F150 Bronco #fordf150 #obsford #diy #fuelpump
1st check the wiring could just be a bad ground. If that's not the case then floater arm on the fuel pump is stuck. You can just replace those parts instead of buying entirely new fuel pump. Depending on cost of parts and where the fuel pump is located and how much trouble it is. Example if it was a corvette I'd replace the entire assembly and pump.
hey, I have this problem but it occurred with both tanks. It makes me think that the wires are just open circuit without ground. I'll take my dash out and check but my thing is I just don't know how to fix it? Do I plug the red into the correct hole and then the black against the car frame and plug it back in?
@@ungodlysorrows Look at some videos on how to check the ground connection for the fuel guage, but generally speaking it's almost certaintly the old pumps just need changed!
That doesn’t always mean it’s a bad fuel pump, pull the cluster cover and check the harness that plugs in to the tank switch, or the blank tank panel, as they will melt over time, I replaced mine with one cut from a donor truck and gauge works perfectly.
If you have a obs Ford odds are your fuel level float AND pump are the same unit so you'll be replacing both anyways "while your at it replace your fuel pump cause usually they're not far behind"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So I just got a transmission put in, never had previous issues but now my gas hand and coolant temp gauge is barely working. One day the temp doesn’t move (car still gets hot) next day it works fine.
Weird. Not sure why a transmission change would cause these issues. However, maybe during the transmission installation, the wiring harnesses for those two gauges got pinched or pulled. It would try to verify the connections to them. The temperature sensor is on the front of the engine near the upper radiator hose. The pump harness connections are on top of the tank.
What about if it only goes up to little over a quarter with gas jn there? Found out other night pump stopped and tank was full little gas spilled but l know for sure it should show full or close 😂😂😂😂
I have a 95 f super duty and it has the dual tank switch but only one tank. Not sure how many gallons it is. Its not a square tank but ta long tank. When i flip the switch up it shows empty and when i flip the switch down it shows past full like in The thumbnail picture. What can the problem be? Hence the tank is full.
If it shows empty on the fuel tank, then is a problem with the fuel level sender. If it shows past full on the missing rear tank, I think that’s how the system responds to not having something plugged into that harness.
So my gauge would work just fine at full tank, but as I drove and use some of the gas, then the gauge started behaving erratically. I still have to see if this has fixed my issue.
Yeah like my gas gauge could be at any position then once I start driving it’ll just go down I’m just unsure what the issue might be. Also I just want to say thank you for the great content that you make it has helped out so much!
I replaced both fuel pumps and selector switch. Guages now work but it shows like yours past full. And it does go down the lower the tank gets in fuel. Any suggestions how to line up the needle to correct marks? I was thinking to fill both tanks. And pull the needle off and put back on on the correct mark.
