I learn something new every time I watch , Thank you
They are an awesome idea that I have made with my guys in my disability day program
Ham, rounding the top edges will expose the base plywood under the walnut, unless it was ever so slight. Maybe rounding the reverse side with a palm router would be a better option than using the belt sander as shown in the video. I love the look of your sign. The hexagons could also be laid out as if it formed a pattern of a molecule of choice.
I use a spiral flush trim bit on the router table for tabs.
Really cool idea! Just a thought for those of you making these for themselves. We used the 3m tabs to stick panels to our walls before and left them in place for 3 or so years. They were the kind that are supposed to easy peel. Every single one took drywall off lol.
That sign is awesome!
Very cool and versatile project(s). Thanks
I dig it. I can see making a lot of them on the CNC and keeping them in stock until they're ordered. Then throw some epoxy on them and they're ready to ship.
A lot of good info here.
This would be an awesome use for my hexagons that I make out of plastic grocery bags. (video on my channel) Unfortunately double-sided tape doesn't work on the plastic so I have to use nails.
You could save material by reducing the pocket depth - epoxy aint cheap! One word of caution I would say, with shallower pockets, would be ensuring your pigment is as dark as youd like, so the wood is not exposed (maybe that's your goal). Great project and video!
That looks like a great way to keep a CNC busy. I do more cutting board type of work. So my CNC doesn't run that often.
Great info Hamilton!
If those get lots of sales, one could pre-cut many different letters and then just pack and send different names. I like the "this video took me..." shot! Probably a good way to get more likes. You should add the time it took to make the product! :)
That’s a really cool idea!
So I've had my Shapeoko for a few months (I'm new to CNC) and all I've worked with now is plywood. I see some benefits to plywood, like the dimensions, bat man is it frustrating when it's cupped, and every single piece I've used is cupped. I even have it in my climate controlled garage with a dehumidified running keeping it close to average humidity like some woodworkers say to do. Anyway, I'm going to be venturing into solid wood, which means I need to buy a planer. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I didn't mean to put something negative here, but mad plywood is frustrating when you don't have a vacuum table, I just ruined a quarter of a sheet of 1/2" I was cutting to make an air cleaner cart for the shop... P.S. Double sided tape doesn't work very well, it ends up popping up after I use a roller or hammer. I used the brand you suggest and that Hippie one too. 😞
@HamiltonDilbeck, that's a cool project. I like the idea of not filling the epoxy pocket all the way.
Thanks for sharing.
That is so fun. Your big hex sign was the first of your videos I watched, it was amazing!
Hamilton, make your tabs much smaller, that'll help
What's the link for the Discord?
Looks good but it should be Eisleys' Kitchen not Eisley's Kitchen
